Switching to barefoot shoes with feet and knee surgeries?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on whether switching to barefoot or minimalist shoes is a good idea given my history.

About 15 years ago, I had surgery for severe flat feet (I actually have an arch now), and 3 years ago I fractured my tibial plateau in a motorcycle accident and got reconstructive surgery. Lately, standard shoes have been causing me frequent foot pain, my balance feels terrible, and my toes are starting to crowd together with bunions forming.

I really want to try barefoot shoes to give my toes room to spread out, fix my balance, and stop the bunion progression, but I’m nervous about how the lack of cushioning might affect my knee or old foot surgery.

Has anyone with a similar background made the switch? I’d love to know if this sounds safe, what kind of transitional shoes you’d recommend (or if I should dive straight into full barefoot), and if there are specific foot or ankle exercises I should do first.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Best backup method before RMA

My OG Z1E has the card reader issue and I want it repaired before warranty expires. I was planning on bringing it to a Micro Center since, according to Asus, you can drop off without an appointment.

What is the easiest way to back up everything before they wipe my system and then restore it like nothing happened?

Case recommendations for New 3DS

So I rescued my old New 3DS from my parents’ house, and I wanted to mod it and give it a second life. I bought it on release day and mostly just used it to play Pokémon and the Zelda games.

Back in the day, there weren’t really any carrying cases made specifically for the small New 3DS, so I ended up getting a 3DS XL case. As you can imagine, there’s a lot of unnecessary wiggle room.

Now I’m looking to get a new screen protector and carrying case, but it seems like things haven’t really improved much for the smaller New 3DS. I’ve seen people using DSi cases and even HDD cases.

Any recommendations for a good case/screen protector that actually fits the small New 3DS?

Pics for flavor.

Multiple Wi-Fi networks on Knulli

Hi! I'm new to retro gaming handhelds and I've been having a blast with my new TrimUI Brick. I'm running Knulli, and after a bit of tinkering I finally got everything set up the way I wanted.

The only issue I'm having now is saving multiple Wi-Fi networks (home, work, and my phone hotspot).

By default, the GUI only lets you save one network, but according to the Knulli networking guide (https://knulli.org/configure/networking/), it should be possible to add more by editing knulli.conf.

I opened the file in Notepad and added the following:

## Secondary Wi-Fi

wifi2.ssid=homewifi

wifi2.key=homewifipass

## Third Wi-Fi

wifi3.ssid=workwifi

wifi3.key=workwifipass

I saved the file, rebooted the device a couple of times, but it still won't connect to either of those networks.

I've searched around but can't find anyone else with this issue.

Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Best CFW for this scenario

Hey! I just got my Brick Hammer, and I'm really impressed. It's my first emulation handheld, and I'm loving it so far.

I'm trying to decide which CFW to install, and right now I'm mainly considering NextUI and Knulli. The problem is that I keep finding conflicting information, and a lot of it seems outdated.

Here's what I'm looking for:

- I'm fairly tech-savvy and don't mind spending some time on the initial setup, but I don't want to keep tinkering with different OSes or settings every month. I'd rather set it up once and just play.

- A proper sleep mode is very important. I want to be able to pick it up and put it down like a Nintendo Switch, with the fastest wake-up time possible, since I'll mostly be playing during short commutes or while waiting in line.

- I prefer a polished, visually appealing interface over a minimalist one. From what I've seen, I really like Knulli's default look, but I'm not sure how customizable NextUI is or whether I can make it look similar.

- Good offline RetroAchievements support.

I'm also open to other CFWs if you think there's a better option. I'd love to hear your recommendations and experiences!

Console to replace doomscrolling

I'm new to the whole SBC/emulation handheld scene, but I recently realized I spend way too much time doomscrolling on my phone without even noticing. I had the idea (okay, I saw it in a YouTube video) of replacing doomscrolling with gaming.

I already have a powerful desktop PC, an ROG Ally, and a Switch 2, so I'm looking for a small handheld that I can carry in my pocket and pull out for short gaming sessions while waiting in line, commuting, or anytime I catch myself wasting time on social media.

I've done some research, and my current candidates are the TrimUI Brick (or maybe the Brick Pro?), the Miyoo Mini Plus, and the Anbernic RG35XX Pro.

Ideally, I'm looking for something that:

  • Fits comfortably in my pocket.
  • Has a proper sleep mode like the Nintendo Switch.
  • Has Bluetooth.
  • Can emulate up to Nintendo DS. GameCube would be a huge bonus, although I know that's probably unrealistic at this price.
  • Costs around $50–70.

I'm also open to any other suggestions. Thanks!
