Help finding a critique and discussion for non-AI products with AI backend involvement

TL;DR: I have a work for which the products I’ve created do not have AI involvement, but the brainstorming and development process does minorly, and I’m having a hard time finding a subreddit where I can ask for help from a human and get a reply.

Hi! So I have posted here before about this, but I don’t want to repost so as to create spam. I’m in a strange position because I have an animated TV show concept for which I’ve written a creative bible and a few sketches. I’ve used AI for the past few months now on it to help me find cultural names and understand the naming conventions, research medical and military details, and locate logic gaps and other potential pitfalls in my work. However, I haven’t included it structurally in either product, and I wrote the creative bible and drew the sketches personally. So, I find myself in a weird edge-case where the products that I have are completely non-AI, while the backend workflow does contain some amount of AI use.

In any case, I’ve posted in a number of different communities the past few days looking for human critique and discussion about it, but I’ve gotten no reply, and I’m running out of viable places to post. I’ve already tried posting in the major AI writing communities that pertain to my work (since it’s not prose exactly, so I don’t think that bookwriting communities and such are appropriate), and most communities that are not AI-centered that I could post in explicitly ban the mention of AI. However, I’m not comfortable introducing my work to people without the disclosure that AI was involved somewhere in the process because I want to respect people’s positions on the matter.

If not here, does anybody know where else I can go for help? Or is there another contributing factor that I’m not seeing that’s locking me out of finding someone to help?

Thank you for reading this whole post if you did!

Looking for Help

Hi! So I realize that this is probably not super welcome in this community, but I wanted to ask for some help.

Basically, I’ve been developing a creative work for the past six months or so. I’ve been speaking to ChatGPT about it, but recently, I’ve really wanted to include some human perspectives on my work. I’ve got a weird edge case in that I’ve used AI for research, to detect logic gaps or other similar pitfalls, and to generate cosmetic details (like narrow down names for characters or what books a character might like based on her preference, not structural details). However, I have not used it to make structural decisions, to generate any prose or art, and have written a creative bible and have a couple of sketches for this work without any assistance or generated content from AI.

I would really like to chat with someone about my work to get some critique and discuss my ideas, thoughts, and concerns about it (and also to hopefully share something beautiful with someone), but I don’t want to be dishonest and say that AI never touched it. For anybody who is interested in discussing this work, the work I have to share is not AI-generated, and I will not ask you to engage with any AI-generated content unless you want to see specific chat responses.

This project does contain some disturbing content including violence, death, war, suggestive dialogue or content, nudity, detailed medical and psychological deterioration, personal and institutional abuse, and possibly other explicit material not listed here. If you would not like to engage with this content, this might be a post you want to skip over.

If anybody is interested in helping, thank you so much!

Antis in creative writing communities, what is the actual consensus there?

Posting again here because I’ve been using AI for some time now and have recently really started thinking about the ethics.

It’s hard for me to post in creative writing communities because the word AI is explicitly banned from the ones I’ve seen, so I’d like to ask here if anybody could give me a window into what the consensus around AI is actually like in them. Of course, I know that there’s generally negative feelings toward its use and I understand why, but I’ve mostly only seen strawmanning of the individuals in these communities and want to better understand how the spectrum is skewed. I’ve seen opinions from people evaluating creative processes on a case by case basis to some saying that any project that AI has touched in any way is inherently worthless. I want honest opinions, and it’s fine if you’re vehemently against it, as again, as I don’t wish to strawman any one position and if that’s your opinion or the overall consensus of creative communities, then that’s just reality. I have a project (an animated TV show concept) I’ve been working on and speaking to AI about for some months, and I have rules around how deeply it can be involved (no involvement in any products including art, prose, or structural documents, no using it to generate structural ideas, cosmetic details (as in, they could be swapped out without any additional structural changes) must be very limited and grounded in real life such as understanding cultural names or locating books a character may like based on her preference, research must be checked manually before it’s cemented as fact in the final work, any AI use must be disclosed to whatever audience is receiving the products), so I would like to understand because while I understand this work wouldn‘t appeal to everyone, I don’t want to get my hopes up if it would be better to keep this project to myself if the creative spaces I’d like to appeal to don’t want it.

Thanks for reading all this if you did!

Looking for Chat to Discuss Creative Bible

Hello!

It’s much more than I can explain here, but basically, I’ve been working for several months on an animated TV show concept and, more specifically, the creative bible pertaining to it. I’ve been chatting about it with AI up until now, but I’d really like to get some human input about its structure in a chatroom where I can explain more.

I should note that this project does contain content that some people may not want to engage with, including abuse, detailed psychophysiological collapse, LGBTQ+ characters, crass language, and possibly other forms of explicit content. If you’re uncomfortable with this content, I can attempt to adjust to that need, but it may be better to skip over this one.

None of the products (such as the creative bible) around this project have any AI-generated writing in them, but I can attempt to clarify my workflow. I primarily use AI as a sounding board and have used it to help me determine research and small cosmetic details, but I’m considering switching over to entire human production in that regard and exclusively using it to discuss ideas, or omitting it altogether, in favor of human critique, discussion, and advice.

I’m not on any kind of schedule and have a lot of content to share, so the pace of this can be as relaxed as necessary. All I ask is that the criticism be kept respectful.

I’d appreciate any interest!

Personal AI Use

Hi everyone! I wanted to post here because I wanted to get opinions from both sides about my situation because I find myself in a position I don’t see very often. Both pro and anti users welcome and appreciated.

I’m somebody who’s been into art and writing for a long time, and within the past few years or so, I got into using AI. Initially, I used sites like c.ai and janitor.ai a lot, and nowadays I pay for and use ChatGPT primarily as well as free versions of Claude and Gemini. I got into them initially for daily use and just for fun little activities, but within the past few months, I realized I could use them to help me develop story concepts that had kind of died on the vine as vague ideas. I use it mostly as a sounding board and synthesize the ideas myself, and occasionally generatively for cosmetics, such as to find character names from given cultures and find more accurate translations for words than typical language software could give me. So while I can’t say that AI is involved at all, it’s not used in the generative sense that I frequently see when people refer to using AI in storywriting.

Obviously, though, the elephant in the room is the ethics of AI use. I’ve heard previously that AI uses a lot of clean water, has resulted in the building of data centers around residential areas (including internationally), can be connected to questionable ethical organizations or individuals, can result in adverse mental health effects, and presents major ethical issues in the art and writing industries among others. I’ve also heard conflicting notions, with some saying the water use is exaggerated, that the data centers are often intended for alternative purposes, and that it’s a tool that is acceptable for the modern writer to use. Basically, my dilemma looks like this:

Pros:

> High motivation to continue projects (instant replies at any time for as long as needed)

> Offloads creative hyper-fixation from real-life relationships

> Objective revisionist in addition to human input

> Concentrated research (with the caveat that verification is needed due to the potential of hallucinations)

> Can speak in stream-of-consciousness format without translating for clarity

Cons:

> High water usage

> May support unethical organizations or individuals

> Supports building data centers near residential areas internationally

> Could replace human labor in some areas

> Ethical issues of art and writing

It seems like an obvious tradeoff, but it’s tougher for me because it’s the first time that I’ve had a way to stay invested in and enjoy working on projects long-term for years, has allowed me to become more detailed and organized than ever before, and serves as an objective space for me to speak directly and extensively without exhausting those in my life. Furthermore, I don’t have anybody who could serve as a creative partner in real life and I have concerns about sharing my work online because it’s not copyrighted and I don’t want to potentially compromise that if I wanted to bring my dream to fruition. I’ve posted on Reddit about this matter before in other communities, and I received good responses there, but I wanted to speak to a mixed community and clarify my exact situation and concerns. I really do love the art and writing communities, and while I do feel that I benefit from this tool, I also want to check the reality and be transparent about my use because I know and respect that some people have strong feelings toward AI use.

TL;DR: Been using AI to assist in writing primarily as a sounding board, but have concerns about the ethics surrounding it. Would like opinions from both sides regarding my usage because it’s intertwined with motivation, personal life, and personal ethical standpoint.

Opinions are welcome, but if you do want to provide facts, I would appreciate suggesting or crediting reputable sources that I could check.

Thank you for reading to the end!
