I genuinely like how level-headed this subreddit is ngl

r/DC_Cinematic is flooded with Snyderbros that have a rose-tinted perception of an incredibly polarizing series of films that are far more flawed than how they perceive them to be and ban people that are critical of them for the most bizzare or convoluted reasons, while r/DCU can get a bit too blind when it comes to the flaws of certain new DC projects like Supergirl. This place here doesn't have any of that and seems to be much more level-headed and chill in comparison. Not to mention, people here actually read and discuss about the comics, lol.

At the same time, I like how perceptive and politically savvy a lot of the people here are as well. Especially on contemporary things like like queer rights, class conflict, Gaza and political corruption like the shitshow with Ellison and WB rn. What we read in comics like Absolute Superman or Absolute Batman, quite a number of y'all actually able to understand and grasp it's real-world political implications. All in all, I like this place you guys have built here.

Jokes aside, is anyone else genuinely excited for MOT, Clayface and the future of the DCU in general?

I know I've been guilty of wasting too much time into beefing with people of a certain community online, to the point of concern. But, honestly, the wider DCU seems to be genuinely shaping up to produce some interesting flicks that have honestly gotten me hooked.

Brainiac in a Superman movie at last, the Warsuit finally being adapted for the big screen, the greater DCU expanding in hopefully an interesting way that sows seeds the for a Justice League movie, with the introduction of characters like Aaron Pierre's Green Lantern into the wider DCU.

And to add to that, an R-rated, character-driven and stand-alone body horror movie directed by the guy that made Eden Lake and written by Mike Flanagan and the dude who wrote Ryan Gosling's Drive?

Also, let's be real, Tom Brittney genuinely seems like a very solid choice for Batman, if the DCU is going to go with him as Bruce Wayne.

I know this subreddit is all about dunking on Snyderbros, but it's also nice to appreciate the good things we do have with the DC franchise as of now.

And hey, if the DCEU could carry on even in spite of disappointments like WW84, Shazam 2, Aquaman 2 and Black Adam, let's cut the one mid DCU project some slack, alright?

Curious idea about a potential re-imagining of TMNT.

Not the most original idea in the world, but imagine a more supernatural, mysticism-influenced take on the Turtles that takes place in feudal Japan. Instead of mutagenic shenanigans, the Turtles, Splinter and their enemies were all re-imagined within the context of ancient Japanese folklore and mythology.

Taking a page from adaptations like the 2003 series, the 2012 show and ROTTMNT, imagine an alternate take on the Turtles, with The Shredder being a disgraced samurai who was badly injured, crippled and left for dead after a fight with a ninja assassin and who turned to sorcery and specialises in the dark arts to help himself recuperate from his injuries and regain his lost strength. In the process, he becomes tempted by his newfound power, forgoes his honorable code that had gotten him badly crippled and becomes a ruthless war-lord, who uses a mix of sorcerery and martial arts to seize power over the region and spitefully encourages impressionable young men to abandon the teachings of discipline and honor that had been instilled onto them and give into their hedonistic desires and forego any sense of fairness, while also teaching them and mentoring them into becoming ruthless killers as members of The Foot Clan. (Similar to Shredder's characterization in the 1987 movie). This is to show Shredder getting back at the code of honor and nobility, which had costed him his status as a samurai and left him badly crippled, before he turned to sorcery.

Guilt-ridden at what he had done by creating the Shredder and already questioning of the life he had chosen as a ruthless killer, the assassin who crippled Shredder decides to take it upon himself to end Shredder's reign of terror and personally eliminate him, only to fail horribly and be subjected to the karmic punishment of being turned into a childhood phobia of his: a rat. After which, Shredder leaves the assassin to be driven mad by his phobia and rot away in imprisonment, hoping that he mentally breaks for good with the passage of time. Which unfortunately does not happen, as he manages to gain enough resolve with the passage of time to overcome his phobia, plan a way of escape by memorizing what he could observe of Shredder's magical spells and begin plotting his revenge against Shredder.

As for the Turtles? Imagine if they were the orphaned children of Shredder's enemies from the past and were left to rot away in starvation as prisoners under Shredder's captivity, after he had murdered their parents. And while escaping from captivity, Splinter discovers the malnourished children in a near-death state within another prison cell. Feeling pity for them and being ridden with guilt over his role in their parents' death and the suffering they endured, Yoshi/Splinter frees them and decides to use his knowledge of Shredder's spells to give them new bodies since their human ones had been irreversibly damaged by malnutrition and disease. Bodies in the form of an animal that Yoshi's late mother adored and which were seen as a good omen in Japanese culture: the turtle.

The rest of the story could focus on the assassin: Hamato Yoshi, training the four mutant turtles, in the ways of ninja discipline and ninjitsu, so that they can learn the skills required to take revenge for not just what Shredder did to him, but also what he had to the four boys' parents. And after they finally defeat Shredder and the Foot, the story could continue with the Turtles dealing with the fallout of Shredder's influence across the world and how his usage of dark magic and popularization of sorcery has shaped a world where many have become users of the dark arts and ventured into being infamous criminals, war lords and despots or tragically turned themselves into monstrous creatures out of sympathetic reasons, becoming re-imagined versions of villains like The Kraang, Bebop & Rocksteady, Leatherhead and so on.

This is a very rough idea and I honestly could have spent more time on refining it, considering much of it is improvisation, but thoughts?

Has there ever been a superhuman out there aside from Thor, who didn't get their abilities through an accident, an experiment or technology?

Just curious, because when you think of it, nearly every one of those costumed schmoes got their crazy-ass superhuman powers through some kind of external source. Iron Man's some rich brainiac that made his suits, Captain America got his cake from the super-soldier serum, Hulk got his superpowered temper tantrums from tinkering around with gamma radiation. Hell, I've even heard rumors on Internet forums about that Black Widow chick (RIP) having gone through some shady-ass experimentation involving the same kind of research work that the super-soldier serum was developed off of.

With how crazy things have been over the years, I'm seriously starting to wonder how much more it can escalate to. Maybe in the future, it gets to the point that you don't even need experiments or technology, but are just born with superpowers? On an additional note, how would even society even deal with randos spontaneously getting superpowers, when we're already struggling to adjust with the current wave of costumed freaks? Especially when we're STILL reeling from whatever BS that purple jackass pulled a couple of years ago.

How different would Mitch-era Suicide Silence's legacy would be if he had still been around?

Curious to know, considering that before his passing, he already seemed to be interested in doing the increased shift to a nu metal-influenced direction, that the band ended up doing anyway with Hernida. And there was also a lot of speculation about some severe damage to his vocal chords, considering how different his unclean vocals started sounding during his last couple of concerts with SS. What do y'all think though?

Which fictional character would probably be a huge fan of core-adjacent genres like metalcore, deathcore and post-hardcore?

Doesn't have to be from a specific franchise. Be they be derived from comics, movies, video games or television shows. I'm curious to know, because I feel like metalcore is one of those genres that's both one of the more mainstream metal subgenres and still pretty niche ironically, with only a handful of bands breaking into the cultural zeitgeist.

What would be some of the bands that are universally loved by both metalcore fans and non-metalcore enthusiasts?

Like, the kind of bands in the scene whom everyone can mutually agree on as being great musicians, even if they're not a fan of the genre they belong to. Kind of like how grunge bands like Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins and Alice In Chains are universally adored by many even outside of the niche of the grunge community. Or how bands like Radiohead, The Strokes, Deftones and System Of A Down are widely adored as great bands even in mainstream circles outside of their nu metal/indie rock/alt rock niches.

Which band in the scene is carried by the band members OTHER than the vocalist? And vice versa?

For instance, the frontman might not have the most vocal range or have the most impressive unclean vocals, but the instrument work by the other band members is god-tier. Or the band's instrumentals might be by-the-numbers or not that impressive, but the vocalists sing like literal angels.

What exactly happened to Ice Nine Kills?

They were responsible for producing banger after banger records in their whole discography, being the kind of band that did the style of corny, theatrical and over-the-top music pretty damn well. And then as the 2020s arrived, their output gradually slowed down, they're confined to only mostly producing new material that serve as tie-ins to pre-existing licensed media and a new LP is nowhere in sight. And their horror gimmick seems to have worn out it's appeal on quite a number of listeners and fans. What's the exact reason behind this?

Always thought they were incredibly underrated and their discography incredibly consistent, alongside bands like Killwhitneydead ngl. Does anyone else remember them?

What genres would you consider bands like Alesana, Blessthefall, The Bled, From Autumn To Ashes, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Vanna and Hopesfall to be? And alternatively, what do bands like Veil Of Maya, Born Of Osiris, After The Burial and Within The Ruins fall under?

All awesome bands ngl, but from what I've seen, the first seven bands mentioned above have been alternatively referred to as post-hardcore or metalcore. Whereas the latter four bands have been called both progressive metalcore and deathcore by different people.

Also, are there any other bands that overlap between different genres like the ones mentioned in this list?

(This is just for fun discussion and not meant to circlejerk over which band or subgenre is better or not, btw)

I honestly appreciate the community in this subreddit, ngl.

There's room for 90s metallic hardcore fans. There's room for melodic metalcore fans. There's also room for electronicore, scenecore and revivalcore fans. Even for other genres like deathcore and post-hardcore. Most of the people here seem like surprisingly empathetic, politically aware people that are more likely to call out problematic behavior or hold questionable individuals in the scene accountable. It's a pretty welcoming space for fans and bands from social minority groups. And any weirdo that gets a bit too sus or spews out problematic BS is either downvoted or mocked to oblivion.

The subreddit isn't immune to issues that befall other Reddit communities admittedly and it does sanewash some worrying individuals that continue to be actively problematic, but I do like how for the most part, there isn't THAT much gatekeeping or enabling of questionable behavior and the only real kind of music universally hated in this place is Octanecore drivel or TikTokcore-styled BS made by the likes of transphobic 40 year olds. And even if bands do change genres and move away from metalcore music, the community is willing to give them a chance as long as the music itself they make remains good. Bring Me The Horizon and Hundredth, for instance.

To sum it up, there are worse places to be on Reddit than r/metalcore. And honestly? That's not a bad achievement, lol.

Has DC_Cinematic always been shilling Snyder even at his worst or this is a recent toxic development?

Anytime I see discourse about DC movies in places like r/DC_Cinematic or r/boxoffice, they seem to pray that every DC project tanks and even if it does well and literally gets a sequel greenlit like 2025's Superman, somehow there will still be some bizzare form of toxic copium or whataboutism regarding the project's success and whether the DC brand is gone for good 💀

Like, what's going on with those other subs???
