Need Help Choosing a Bedroom
I’m choosing between two bedrooms in a shared 3BHK apartment and would love some opinions from people who’ve lived in apartments long-term.
For context, I work from home 3–4 days a week, and my work involves long hours of designing, reading, and working at a computer with an external monitor.
Room A (Images 1 & 2)
Pros
Attached bathroom.
More privacy overall.
Don’t have to leave the room to use the bathroom, especially at night or while getting ready.
Cons
Slightly smaller room.
Comes with a completely fixed built-in desk that can’t be removed. The desk takes up a fair amount of usable floor space, and the ergonomics are poor. The clearance is odd enough that you can’t properly slide a chair underneath it, so it’s uncomfortable to use as an actual workstation.
Because the desk is fixed, it also limits how I can arrange the room and furniture.
Room B (Images 3 & 4)
Pros
Slightly bigger room.
Better shape and much more flexibility to set up my own workstation with a monitor.
Slightly nicer built-in dresser.
Feels more open and easier to furnish.
Cons
Bathroom is outside the room. It’s directly opposite the bedroom and would mostly be my personal bathroom, but since it’s also the common bathroom, guests would likely use it when they’re over.
Both rooms get similar natural light and are otherwise fairly comparable.
I’ll be living here for at least 2–3 years, so I’m trying to think about what will actually make me happier day-to-day rather than what looks better on paper.
For those of you who’ve lived in apartments, which compromise would bother you more over time?
A. Having a less-than-ideal fixed workstation in your bedroom.
B. Having to step outside your bedroom to use the bathroom.
I’d love to hear not just which room you’d choose, but why. Photos and the floor plan are attached.
