I realized I’m growing up and that I’m not a kid anymore, I’m stressed.

i’m gonna be 17 in september and i just realized that next year i’ll be a grown adult. i’m growing up. i’ll be graduating (maybe), driving, working a job, applying or going to college, moving out, and just all these horrible things that i didn’t expect to be doing so soon.

time feels like it’s going too fast now. i didn’t realize how much older ive been getting. i’ve been so stuck in my own head dealing with depression, anxiety, loneliness, and all these other things that have to do with my mental health for the past 6 years that i didn’t even realize i’m genuinely about to become an adult and have my life completely flipped on its head. i’ve become self aware of where i am in life.

i feel terrible and miserable and left behind. i still feel like a little kid. i’m over here in my room playing video games and drawing and rotting in bed while scrolling instagram when i could be doing anything else at my age. anything productive, anything that will help me with my future prospects. but no, i’m still acting childish and not doing anything with my life. i’m failing at school, i’m failing at social life, i’m unemployed, i can’t drive, i can’t do anything.

what am i supposed to do? i’m gonna have to move out already at 18 right?! i’m gonna have to already be working by then. i’m gonna have to be paying bills and taxes or whatever the hell adults do. i’m gonna have to go to college. i can’t handle that. i can’t even handle ordering food at a restaurant by myself or being in a loud classroom. i can’t even handle school in general.

life is going too fast. i feel so overwhelmed right now. any adults out there, give me some advice! i don’t want to grow up, i don’t want to be an adult. how did you guys handle becoming an adult? is it awful? have i already wasted my teenage years away? what should i do right now?

due to my depression, ive always thought my life would end before i turned 17-18. but my birthday is less than a month away. of course my death could still happen, but it seems a little less likely due to other personal things happening. and because of that, i’m stressing tf out.

any responses would be appreciated, thanks for reading. <3

I want friends, but I end up hating every person who wants to be my friend. What should I do?

"hate" is a strong word, so i'm just gonna say i "dislike" anyone who ends up wanting to be my friend. i don't actually hate the people who reach out to me. maybe resent is a better word? oh well, point is, i don't find the people i talk to fulfilling.

i'm an incredibly lonely and mentally unwell junior in high school who has zero friends. nobody at school talks to me and if they do, they're usually bullying me. nobody acknowledges my existence whether it be IRL or online. i basically blend into the background when it comes to being around other people. i genuinely don't know why, but i've been lonely for quite a while now. i have some "acquaintances" online but they aren't people who seem to be the type to stick around for much long in my life. maybe a few months? a year? but other than that, completely useless and unfulfilling to me.

every time i try to reach out to people to be my friend and they try to be my friend, i end up not liking them after a conversation or two. sometimes it's even in the way they greet themselves to me where i can immediately tell "yeah, this person isn't the one for me". it's frustrating.

i feel as though this might have to do with the expectations i have for who i want as a long term friend. but even then, i need someone who fits the bill. i need to know that this person won't waste my time. until about a week or two ago, i've had a best friend who was with me for 8 years (since 3rd grade) and for a long time he was my only friend. due to a lot of personal issues and our relationship sadly becoming unstable, we said our goodbyes and he parted ways with me. it was his choice, not mine.

ever since then, i've constantly been trying to find a new best friend who would be a perfect match. someone who was similar to my ex best friend. someone who is exactly like him. but so far, there's literally nobody who matches the list i've made of the things i need in a new best friend. there's 8 billion people in this world, why can i not find someone exactly like my old best friend?

i've become extremely frustrated and at this point, im about to give up and accept that im gonna be alone forever until the day my life ends. i know what you're probably thinking. me having these very specific expectations is what is making it difficult and basically impossible for me to get a single friend. and yknow, you're probably right! but no matter HOW HARD I TRY, i physically cannot enjoy the company of anyone who seeks out to be closer to me. they just are NOT FULFILLING. they don't scratch my itch that my ex best friend did. they don't bring me any happiness that my ex best friend did.

nobody that i have met is able to bring me any happiness no matter how hard i try. so, although i am incredibly lonely and desperate for someone to talk to, anyone who i do talk to is simply not enough, and i don't know what to do at this point. not a single human that i have met is able to bring me any sort of joy. they don't talk about what i want them to talk about, they don't act how i want them to act, they don't have the interests i want them to have, they don't look they way i want them to look, they don't talk the way i want them to talk, they don't have the opinions i want them to have, NOTHING fits the bill.

so, what should i do, internet? should i legit just give up? cuz that's what im drawn toward right now. i think im gonna die alone.

Is it bad to write a story just for attention and praise?

hiya, i've made a post on here previously about my fears of starting to write my story as a beginner writer and teenager in high school. this story has had me doing some self reflection and thinking. i was thinking about WHY i'm doing this anyways. why i want to write, why i want this story to be so good, why im so scared of harsh criticism and what an audience might think of my work. and i think i've figured out the answer. i think i want to publish this story for attention and praise.

i've started this story in my head with my OCs when i was around 10-11 so around 5-6 years ago. i was just a little kid so i was doing a lot of it for myself and my own enjoyment. but as i've gotten older, i think that has changed. i've always daydreamed and fantasized about making it big. becoming a famous animator and writer, someone who has created this incredible TV show or movie or comic or novel and is basically worshipped by all writers and artists out there. i want to become someone who is in charge of a giant fandom/fanbase that holds millions of fans. right now, that's my goal. but i realized that by wanting all of that, im kinda just writing my story and putting in alllll this effort for praise and compliments by the masses.

is this a bad thing? should i be ashamed? i don't exactly NEED "fame". i kinda just want some validation, someone to tell me that im doing good and that im awesome and great at what i pursue. i want compliments, not criticism or bad reviews. am i wrong for this mindset? if i am, how should i change it or can i even change it to begin with?

I’m terrified to start properly writing my story and characters.

I’ve always had a huge story in my mind that i’ve been building up for 6 years at this point. i’m mainly an artist and i’ve only drawn the OCs i’ve had in mind and memorized the basic story plot in my head. but i’m so scared of properly planning things out such as actual scenes and story beats or just simply writing things down.

now, i know that i shouldn’t be scared for things to be bad at first and that i’m also not required to share my writing. i’m only 16 (turning 17 soon) and i know that my writing is probably bound to be HORRIBLE. but i’m desperate for my work to be the best it can be.

i’m seriously shooting for this story to have incredible story telling, similar to other pieces of media i enjoy like Portal 2, Arcane, Steven Universe, Witch Hat Atelier, and many more stuff that are praised by millions of fans. but i’m terrified that my story will fall completely short and then when i DO share it in the future, it will be ridiculed and laughed at. people might make video essays on how my story is a complete dumpster fire, some critics might write scathing reviews on it, i could be made fun of on online forums. the amount of things that could happen is horrifying.

i don’t know what to do. should i even try getting my ideas on paper? should i even try making this story into a reality? how does one even overcome fears such as this? i’ve been fighting with myself over this specific issue for years, any advice would be much appreciated!

I don’t understand how to make friends.

I hope this is the right place for this.

I’m a 16 year old transmasc. I’ll be 17 in september. today is my first day of junior year in high school and i have absolutely no friends and no clue on how to make any.

i’m likely autistic and am in the process of getting diagnosed. i have been diagnosed with anxiety/social anxiety and major depression. both of those make it extremely hard for me to interact with other people for a variety of reasons. i’m also an introvert who’s a complete shut in for most of the day. i don’t participate in any extracurriculars or clubs. a lot of time i’m in my room bedrotting due to major depression. now that school has started, i don’t understand how to make friends.

i definitely want friends but people scare the shit outta me. i don’t understand social cues or what i’m supposed to say and i already get bullied for the ways i dress and the ways i act. i know i should take initiative and just talk to SOMEONE but that feels kinda creepy and weird and awkward??? just going up to someone and striking up conversation? is that how friendships and interaction with other people work? i don’t get it. and also, everyone i see at my school is already all up in their groups and “cliques”.

and how do i know that the person i’m talking to is gonna be exactly like me? someone who shares all my interests and opinions and beliefs and enjoys what i enjoy and hates what i hate. how do i know they match me? and what if they don’t?

i totally have an easier time making friends online though. it’s easier to go up to someone in an online game and talk than to do it IRL. i still get totally scared doing stuff online but i feel it’s way easier to hide behind a screen than to meet someone face to face.

i just need some advice from anyone. anyone who has actual friends. i don’t want just acquaintances or just people i know and say hi to in the hallways sometimes. i want an actual FRIEND. a best friend even. how do i do this? how do i manage social life while being depressed and anxious all the time?

i’ve already made a previous post on how i got to this point of having ZERO friends. basically, i’ve recently had a breakup with my best friend and he was the only person i had. now i’m down to no friends at all.
