A long short story.

Hey guys, u/Space_guy-7 here.

I created this sub around a year ago, but honestly, it was inactive for quite a long time.

This subreddit was created because of a problem I personally faced while searching for information about RIT during my first year, before I got into this college. I had to find information about RIT from Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, YouTube and pretty much everywhere else. I stumbled across different posts on r/Kerala and other places, and even found some information on Quora, but I couldn’t find one single place where everything about RIT was available.

RIT already had different pages on Instagram, YouTube and other platforms, but there wasn’t really a dedicated Reddit community for RIT Kottayam.
And that’s where this idea came from.

Reddit is such a common platform for students to ask questions, discuss things and share experiences, so I thought, why not have a dedicated space for RIT?

The earliest discussions about creating this subreddit actually go back to 2025. Specifically, I remember having discussions with a certain guy from CS who plays the violin. I don’t want to reveal his name, but many of you probably know who I’m talking about. 😭

We discussed the idea, and he basically said, “Okay bro, go ahead with it.”

But, well… I procrastinated and then I left the idea for a while.

At some point, I created this subreddit when I had some series exam due the very next day. 💀

And then… nothing.

The subreddit was left inactive for days, weeks and months.

I think the first post was made by a student who wanted to know something about RIT. I honestly don’t remember the exact post anymore. At that point, I was basically the only member here. Some people discovered the subreddit and occasionally answered questions, but most of the time, it was me. I also remember someone asking why this subreddit wasn’t active like the pages for Mace or CET.
I said I wanted to take some time and properly build it.

Fast forward to around April or May. I had my semester exams coming up, and it was my final year at RIT.

And somehow, during that time, I decided, okay, enough. Let’s actually do this.
I properly set up the subreddit.

The logo, the banner, the description, everything.
(I even used ChatGPT to generate the banner, i am not skilled at designing 😭.)

I selected some moderators, and honestly, the two mods who joined me have done a wonderful job here.

Then we decided to officially launch the subreddit.
I contacted the admin of RSU and asked him to circulate the subreddit link. My friend, who was handling the social media for various RIT pages, also helped spread it around.

And then it happened and people started joining and asking questions.

The subreddit actually started becoming a community.

But, as you might expect from this subreddit… it became inactive again after the initial push. 😭

We mods had no idea what to do. We tried posting things one by one, but it wasn’t really doing much.

And then admission season started.

We had a discussion among the mods and thought, we need to make this active before admissions get into full swing and it

And after a some time, student queries started coming in from different places. People started asking questions about RIT, courses, hostels, placements, academics, admissions and pretty much everything a fresher would want to know.

We all contributed wherever we could.

I think there were 20+ questions during that period, and almost all of them had answers from students here.

Most of the questions were from freshers, and honestly, that’s exactly what I wanted this subreddit to become when I first created it.

Then admissions concluded, student support during the admission period began, and once again, the questions kept coming.

And now…
Classes have started. Orientation has started. A new batch has entered RIT.

And I just wanted to take a moment to say something.
This subreddit was created because I personally faced the exact same problem that many of you probably faced.

When I was trying to get into RIT, I couldn’t find one proper place where I could simply ask:
“What is RIT actually like?”
“What should I know before joining?”
“How are the academics?”
“What about hostels?”
“What about placements?”
“What should I expect as a fresher?”

I had to search through different platforms and piece everything together myself.
So I wanted to create the place that I wish I had when I was a fresher.

And I think, to some extent, we managed to do that.
This subreddit isn’t huge, we’re nowhere near the size of some of the other college subReddit , but somehow every question answered here could potentially save someone hours of searching.
Every fresher who gets an answer here is one less person who has to go through what I went through.
And that’s honestly enough for me.

So, thank you to everyone who contributed by joining, posting, upvoting and commenting .

I started this subreddit almost as a random idea, procrastinated on it for months, revived it during my final year exams.

So please, keep this place alive.

You can discuss pretty much anything related to RIT here. Yes, you can discuss politics too, but please don’t let this become only a political subreddit. 😭

This community is for everyone , freshers, seniors, alumni and anyone interested in RIT.

I created this subreddit because I wanted a place that I didn’t have when I was a fresher.
Now that the place exists, let’s make sure it stays here for the people who come after us.
Thank you all for making r/RitKottayam what it is today. ❤️

And please…
Keep the subreddit alive.
- u/Space_guy-7

TL;DR
I made r/RITKottayam because when I was joining RIT, I couldn’t find one proper place to get information about the college.

The sub was inactive for a long time, but during admissions, students started asking questions and seniors started helping them.

This is the place I wish I had when I was a fresher.

Thanks to everyone who helped. Keep asking, keep helping, and keep this sub alive! ❤️

Mileage Issue

This is my fathers classic 500 2011 model, recently tested after completing 15 years. Currently I am using it daily riding in between 60-80km/hr. I am getting a mileage of 20km/l. Is it normal for a 15 year old bike or something is off .

What is an expected mileage, is e20 the problem?

PGs or Hostels near IIST

Hi everyone! I’ve been selected for a position at IIST, but unfortunately they said I won’t be getting hostel accommodation.

So I am looking for a PG/hostel for men at affordable rates near IIST . Any recommendations or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Technmanghi EV Design Course

So, I got a call from a Techmaghi agent asking about my interests and what my future plan is, since I am an EEE student. I told them that I like doing MATLAB and Simulink design and simulations. They said that's why they called me and introduced me to one of their courses.

They initially said the course cost ₹20,000, but because I'm from one of their affiliated colleges (RIT Kottayam), they said I was eligible for a scholarship and could get the program for ₹6,000.

The program looks interesting, but the problem is that I already know some of the content. For the other half, paying that amount for only 20 minutes of online classes per day doesn't really feel worth it.

Has anyone else taken this course? They also said they have assured placements through tie-ups with companies like Tata and BMW. Is that actually true? Or is it just a marketing claim?

Job Search Burnout

Fellow engineers, how hard was it to land a job after not getting placed in college?

I'm a 2026 passout from a government college in kerala, and I graduated in EEE. I had a decent skill set in both my core and it field and tried applying both in my core field and in IT, but unfortunately, I couldn't secure a placement in either.

I did make it to the HR round of an IT company at Infopark, but I got rejected there. Now that college is over, I've been actively applying for jobs. So far, I've applied to around 20–30 positions, but I haven't even made it past the resume screening stage.

Honestly, I'm at peak burnout right now. Most of my friends have either joined coaching for competitive exams or enrolled in additional skill development courses, but I'm not really interested in either of those paths.

So I wanted to ask people who were in a similar situation: how hard was it for you to land your first job after graduating without campus placement? How long did it take, and what helped you finally break through?
