Frustration over Pop Up Outlet Code Guidance from contractor that turned out to not be true

This is a new build. The headline basically describes it but in my municipality we are still under the 2020 NEC code not the 2023 NEC code which under the 2020 would’ve permitted side cabinet mounted outlet receptacles. There are countless new houses on Zillow that were built in 2026 that have side mounted outlets.

I initially objected to a pop up and questioned why can’t they be side mounted but he insisted that it was the only way under the new code to supply power to the island. My wife likes to bake and use a blender so I wanted her to be able to do that. I was going by what the professional said.

I’m having so many regrets about this being where we are on this brand new MSI Safyra Quartz island countertop. I was relying on the general contractors counsel on the matter. I’m picturing my toddler aged kids spilling milk in it in the first week.

One of the craziest parts is you can see the outlet installed where I’m talking about on the peninsula IN THE SAME KITCHEN. That you can see in one of the photos.

So please help me make it make sense. I’m really having such a hard time tolerating this oversight in a home I plan to live in for the next 20 years. How would you proceed? I’m going to have a conversation with him tomorrow.

Any fans of rocking same length chain of similar widths and different or even same link?

What do we think about this setup?

22” 3.5mm Miami Cuban Link
22” 3.8mm Figaro (both as measured by digital calipers)

I feel like the same length different link adds a little visual interest to an otherwise “boring” single chain on the thinner side. I wasn’t sure at first but it is growing on me.

New Flat Curb

Just received my new custom length 23” 4.5mm 925 Flat Curb! Really stoked on it and how it layers with my other chains. Wouldn’t wear more than 2 at once so those photos are just for show.

Gotta love silver being relatively affordable as a precious metal so you can have multiple options 😁

Some stacks with my 24” 5mm Mariner, 22” 3.5mm Miami Cuban Link, and 22” 7mm Figaro.

New (Old) Pendant

Just got this solid 925 Mexican made sailfish Pendant!

Seller believes it is from the 70s era. Total gram weight on the pendant is 8 grams. Really stoked to add it to the collection.

Shown on a 5mm 24” Mariner and the other chain is a 22” 3.5mm Miami Cuban.

What should I add next?

Been in a bit of a sterling buying frenzy. Bought a couple of pre-owned chains from a jeweler recently and one from a reliable seller on Etsy. She can also do custom lengths. That being said I’m interested in adding a 23” chain of some sort. What do you think I should add?

The main considerations are either a 4.5mm 23” Figaro or a 5mm 23” Miami Cuban link. But open to any other ideas. I do occasionally like to stack 2 chains.

Here’s what I currently have in my collection:

22” 3.5mm Miami Cuban Link
22” 6-7mm Figaro
24” ~5mm Mariner

Stack Options

22” 3.5mm Cuban Link
22” 6-7mm Figaro
24” 5mm Mariner

Think I could get away with adding a pendant to this Cuban link? Or should I add a 20” narrower width Wheat or Franco for a pendant?

Was thinking that could also look good as a stand alone option. Those of you that daily a 22”, do you like a 20” for a pendant? I’ve never owned a 20”

Triple stack

It is not typically my style to wear multiple necklaces nor is it to wear chains outside of Tshirts. I prefer the more low-profile tucked look.

But I thought this stack looked pretty clean!

22” Figaro, 24” Mariner, 26” Rope. All 925.

Follow Up

I did end up buying both of the 925 chains I was looking at from the small jewelry store. At the end of the day I simply couldn’t decide. The deal was such that I had to grab both at the end of the day. Happy to have two really nice options!

24” Mariner- 31 Grams
22” Figaro- 34 Grams

Couple of Choices

I have been talking with a nice woman at a local husband and wife owned jewelry store. I told her generally what I was looking for and she pulled a few pre-owned 925 pieces for me to look at.

I don’t know the exact mm of either. First one is maybe a 6-7?mm 22” Figaro around 33 grams, and the second one is a 5-6?mm 24” Mariner with an unknown weight but felt solid.

I tried them both on back to back and couple of times and really can’t decide which I like more. I may try to grab both honestly…

Is there one you all think looks better than the other or walk out with both?!

Question about Specs of Necklace

I spoke with a local small hole in the wall privately owned jewelry store about what 925 pieces they had in Figaro and Cuban link.

She told me that she has a 22” Figaro that is about 4 maybe 4.5mm wide and weighs over 33 grams! And also had what sounded like a fair price for it.

Can someone that knows more about this chime in to tell me is that sounding pretty heavy for the specs? And secondly when I go check it out in person is there a way to find out if it is rhodium plated? I don’t want a rhodium dipped piece, I would like natural silver necklace with no rhodium.

Thank you for any insight!

Sizing Question/Opinion

This is a 22” 3.2mm 925 Cuban link. Debating whether it’s too short? or actually in the Goldilocks zone. I only wear my necklaces inside of my shirt.

Without the pendant it definitely looks shorter than anything I’ve worn before. But with the pendant it looks better?

I may just need to get another one in 24” to wear it without a pendant.
