Hi zusammen! Ich habe gerade meinen Master in Potsdam abgeschlossen und meine zwei besten Freunde sind gerade aus Frankreich zu Besuch. Wir sind drei Jungs, 27, 28 und 29 Jahre alt, und möchten heute Abend das Potsdamer Nachtleben erleben.

Das Problem: Wir wissen noch nicht, wohin! Deshalb suchen wir Empfehlungen für eine gute Bar, einen Club, eine Party oder einfach einen coolen Ort, an dem heute Abend etwas los ist.
Wenn jemand heute Abend Lust hat, sich uns anzuschließen – gerne! Wir freuen uns, neue Leute kennenzulernen und gemeinsam einen schönen Abend zu verbringen.
Wir sprechen Englisch, und ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch. Also: Wo geht man heute Abend in Potsdam hin? Und wer hat Lust, mitzukommen?

I just want to vent a little and maybe hear from people who can relate or have advice.

I’m African, and I came to Germany about 4 years ago for my Master’s degree. One of the things I really hoped for was to make German friends so I could integrate better, learn the culture, and practice my German naturally.

But honestly, it never really happened.

In my course, we were 14 students, and only one other person was African. Till today, he’s the only real friend I made during my studies. I genuinely tried with my other classmates too, joining conversations, being open, inviting people out sometimes, but it always felt distant. A few of them even told me directly that they already had their childhood friends and didn’t really need new friendships.

I understand that people grow up differently and maybe friendships work differently here, but it still hurts sometimes. After living here for four years, I can’t even say I have one German friend. That realization makes me feel sad and honestly a bit isolated.

I’m not writing this to blame anyone. I just want to know if other international students or foreigners in Germany have experienced something similar. How did you deal with it? Did things ever change for you?

I’ve already tried many job platforms but I’m still struggling to find something suitable.

I speak English fluently and my German is B1 level. I’m open to any flexible job that fits around student life.
