Seems pretty capable and versatile, and i love its looks, the engine sound and the thick smoke it produces. You get it as a reward for building the new sawmill in Maine.
My assumption is, the offroad one is heavier but produces less drag in mud due to larger wheels, but how does that turn out in practise? Is the regular one still better due to its lighter weight?

Recently learned here in this sub that the automatic gearbox will shift up quicker when you shortly tap LB/L1. Provides additional recovery missions, among the other benefits..
May be a bit cumbersome, but after evaluating alternative routes and such this seems like a reasonable solution.
I already liked the GMC without the awd upgrade, but with it and the excellent ground clearance it really can do off-road stuff.
