Sealed M2 iPad Air came with iPadOS 17.4... update or leave it alone?

I just got a sealed 11” M2 iPad Air 1TB Cellular for very cheap, basically around half off MSRP, so I couldn’t pass it up lol.

It came on iPadOS 17.4 with 100% battery health, 0 cycles, normal battery status, manufactured March 2024, and first used this month. So it’s basically brand new old stock.

This is my secondary iPad since my main one is an M5 iPad Pro, so I don’t really need the newest features on this one. I also think it’s kind of cool that it’s still on a pre-Apple Intelligence version of iPadOS.

It’s offering me iPadOS 18.7.8 right now and I’m torn. Would you guys leave it on 17.4 or update to 18.7.8?

Anyone with an M2 Air notice any difference with battery life, heat, performance, or bugs on newer iPadOS versions?

TL;DR: Got a great deal on a basically brand new M2 iPad Air and I’m torn between keeping it on iPadOS 17.4 or updating to 18.7.8.

Hmmm… interesting 🤨

Hmm… interesting 🤨

Today I got an AppleCare+ replacement for my day 1 iPhone 17 Pro Max (left is OLD, right is NEW). My old one has been having overheating, cellular/connectivity issues, and random weirdness for a while so I finally replaced it.

Immediately I noticed the display on the replacement is brighter than my original 17 Pro Max even though both phones are on the exact same settings in the same room. The new one is also a little warmer which I actually like more.

What’s funny is my original phone already showed a Samsung panel in diagnostics, so now I’m wondering if this replacement is Samsung too or just a newer batch/calibration or something. Also surprised because the replacement came on iOS 26.2 lol.

Honestly I feel like I got lucky with this replacement 😭

TLDR: My AppleCare+ replacement 17 Pro Max is noticeably brighter and warmer than my original day 1 17 Pro Max even though my old one already had a Samsung display. Also came on iOS 26.2 👀
