Trying to justify

I bought the AirPods Max 2 a few days ago. I already have AirPods Pro 3s that I use for the gym and work, and I picked up the Max mainly for home entertainment, work, and walks with my dog. The problem is that I keep reaching for my AirPods Pro every time because they’re just so convenient. I’m enjoying the Max, but given how expensive they were, I’ve been questioning whether they’re worth the money. Part of me is considering returning them since I haven’t been using them nearly as much as I expected. I’ve also noticed that the noise cancellation doesn’t seem nearly as good as many people claim. When no music is playing, I can still hear quite a bit of noise in my office

Just curious, how many of you guys use their APM's on the go? or do you guys have like dailies when out and about, and only use your APM's if like at your desk or chilling at home?

I have the pro 3's as well, so was planning to use them as dailies, and the APM's at home when studying or working, but the asian in me is like screaming that if i paid so much for it i should use it ALL the time to get my money's worth 😅😅

Edit: thx fr the input guys, im gna take better care of my APM's and make better use of my pro 3s frm now on

Gen 1 vs Gen 2

I want some over-the-ear headphones for the gym. I’m torn between the USB-C AirPods Max 1s vs the AirPods Max 2. I work out frequently, so they will be well used. I currently have AirPods Pro 3, this is making me want to lean to get the gen 1s, but my gut is saying FOMO and to get the 2s. Any suggestions? To me, I feel the 1s are more practical in my situation since they would just be for the gym, and I don’t need all the new features necessarily.

1st gen replace/fix

I have a pair of 1st gens that the mesh has worn out on. I do not have AppleCare so it will be $329 to fix the headband through apple mail-in or $189 in store, but the closest store is 3 hours away. I have tried the silicone + memory foam DIY fix and it doesn't do much.

For those who have run into this issue, AKA everyone, have you found a better pair elsewhere or should I just suck it up and buy them again + AppleCare so that 2 years from now when this happens again I can get them replaced for free?

Considerations:

I work in the legal field editing transcripts with full audio so I am a daily heavy user.

Sound quality needs to be top of the top as I'm often getting audio from 900 yr old courtroom speaker systems

These are the best and most comfortable headphones I've owned until now, including Beats, AP Pros, and Bose. Someone recommended Soundcore but I haven't tried them yet, heard complaints about sweaty ears after several hours.

Good Smart Case alternatives?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had good Smart Case alternatives for airpod max 2s. I've been searching everywhere and I specifically want one that supports sleep mode but there have been mixed reviews of that feature working. Just wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations.

recently-ish bought usb-c’s turning off randomly

hi guys. i bought a pair of usb-c airpods max in late february, and the past couple of days they’ve started turning off and rebooting themselves (takes like 20s before music comes back) sometimes when i touch/adjust the headphones on my head. is this grounds for a replacement? i heard about cleaning the ends of the headband connectors by popping the earcups off, but, ive had these for only a few months so i can’t imagine they’d be gunked up already, also i can’t find a sim ejector anywhere in my house for the life of me. or a thin paper clip!!! there’s only thick ones! anyway. i don’t even feel like i should have to think about repairing them since these things cost so much money. there should be a little fairy handing me a new one and flying away with the old pair right now as far as im concerned

Worth buying if I own Airpods 4?

Tried the Airpods max in store recently and what surprised at how comfortable they were, and the sound quality. I swapped between my airpods 4 and these, testing out the noise cancelling capability. At some points they seemed to perfectly block out noise if I were playing music, but it was difficult to tell at times. I'd appreciate input from people who've used them for longer. These would be a godsend for noisy buses!

Anyone else have experience with this?

Have the AirPod max 2. Was having issues with them not disconnecting when I put them in the charging bra, contacted Apple support and they had me charge them outside the bra while connected so that they would update to the newest firmware. Since I’ve done that I’ve had zero issue with them disconnecting when I put them in the bra and the battery life has been incredible . Went to charge them for the first time today ( they were at 68%) and when I plugged them in they flashed orange light instead of just staying solid. I googled it and it said it could be an error or hardware issue. So I left them to charge for about 20 minutes . Came back now and checked them fully expecting the charge amount to be 68% or less still and it was at 90%. Is it normal for the light to flash when I plug them in instead of staying solid and for them to charge that fast?

Spotify or Apple Music with AirPod Max 2

So I’m getting the AirPod Max 2 soon and my family currently has a Spotify premium family plan. Since I’m getting the AirPod Max 2, only Apple Music will bring out the full potential of these headphones so I feel like I’m missing out if I don’t listen to music with Apple Music. The rest of my family has Samsung phones and are not willing to switch to Apple Music. Should I just stick with Spotify, or should I purchase the 1 year Apple Music subscription out of my own pocket for around $100? I can’t get the student plan because I’m still in high school.

Please let me know your thoughts 🙏

Are these common Max 2 Issues?

Hey I've had my Airpods Max 2 since they released, and I'm finding them to be very bad headphones. Is anyone else experiencing these issues:

  • Overload with Adobe Premiere: I've essentially had to swap to USB audio when editing videos in adobe premiere because about every 20 minutes or so my headphones will overload (garbled, glitchy noises until they disconnect entirely). It seems to be based on the amount of my other devices around me (at work it doesn't happen as often as at home). Is this an issue other people experience?
  • Crunchy Audio: I often record my voice when I'm giving notes to people while video editing, and it's always VERY CRUNCHY. I often notice this happens when I run my voice through AI cleanup services like Adobe Enhance, and it seems like there's some kind of post-processing happening to my voice through the headphones as part of the sound cancelling. Sometimes it affects the audio so bad it doesn't even sound like my voice. Anyone know of a way to turn that off? It sounds like absolute crap.
  • Does anyone know how to swap between USB audio and Bluetooth while the headphones are plugged into a computer? I often charge my headphones with my computer while talking to people on Discord on my phone, and I can no longer do this, I have to plug my headphones directly into my phone. Googling it has also brought up zero helpful results on this one, as with all my issues here.

It's so annoying that these are simultaneously the most comfortable, best sounding headphones I've ever owned, and also just like the Max 1s, they have these constant issues that make me question why I keep buying them.

Are APM 2s more reliable than the first generation?

I’ve had two pairs of first gen APMs. I love them but the first pair eventually refused to connect to any of my devices unless I rebooted them (holding down both buttons until it flashes amber) and eventually even that stopped working. I’ve had a replacement pair for a couple years now but they are now starting to have the same exact issues.

I feel like an idiot for even considering buying a third pair of something that has already broken twice, but I love them when they are working. I wear them daily at work for 6-8 hours a day. Never work out or get sweaty with them on.

If anyone has any tips on reviving the first gen I’d be all ears as well. I’ve tried a factory reset, I’m in the process of trying to totally drain the battery hoping that fixes it (but that takes forever when it’s impossible to actually play anything on them), I’ve even tried the stupid freezer thing some people have mentioned, nothing.

I love the case! Is that weird?

It’s perfect. I’ve wondered for years why Sony and other brands have these massive hard cases.

I’m not going to carry around a mini briefcase. It fills up my rucksack too.

But the Max’s case is minimal, protects the important bit and doesn’t add more space.

Surely that’s what Apple designed this case for? Minimal, easy to take around, protected sleeve.

I think the big cases of other brand’s are cheesy (British slang) and ridiculously over the top.

AirPods Max 2: Amazing Transparency Mode, Fatiguing Audio, Emotionless Sound

I’ve been using the AirPods Max 2 for a week, and honestly, I’m pretty disappointed with the sound quality overall.
The biggest issue for me is the tuning. The sound comes across as overly aggressive and fatiguing, especially in the upper frequencies. Songs I know and love just don’t feel engaging or emotional on these headphones. Everything sounds technically “clean,” but there’s very little warmth or immersion. I never really get that feeling of being pulled into the music.
I also noticed that disabling Spatial Audio made the listening experience more pleasant. The sound became less artificial and less processed, although it wasn’t a night-and-day transformation.
For context, I’m used to listening with Fiio FT1, Meze 99, and Hifiman Edition XS headphones. Obviously, it’s probably unfair to directly compare wired headphones to wireless, but it does make the AirPods Max 2 sound quite underwhelming to me emotionally and musically.
As for comfort, I do not notice the weight. Build quality is also OK.
ANC is good, but honestly, I’m not blown away by it. My comparison point is the old Sony MDR-1000X, and while I assume ANC technology has improved a lot over the years, I still expected a bigger “wow” factor.
Transparency mode, however, is seriously impressive, feels incredibly natural.
Overall, the AirPods Max 2 feel like a nice piece of hardware with good comfort, build quality, and transparency mode, but the actual sound signature just doesn’t work for me. Too sharp, too sterile, and not enough emotion in the music.

Another thing about APM2s I didn't notice

So I'm a huge football fan, soccer to most people but I couldn't make it to the match vs Toronto last night ( go Charlotte FC!!!) I went to my local bar which will show the match but with no sound and it's delayed by like 2 minutes which is an eternity is soccer, I pulled out my ipad & connected my headphones since Apple TV+ shows pretty much every match. It literally felt like I was at the game in the stadium, they completely surrounded me in sounds of the match. I didn't expect it, but wow, just wow....

Does anyone get used to the weight after using for some time?

I just got myself an airpod max 2 and although trying in the shop was kinda alright for 15 mins but my neck started to sore after 45 mins to an hour of usage and i had to put it down.

Does anyone had issue with the weight and get used to it after prolonged usage ?
