AirPods Max 2 Gaming Headset compatibility?

Hi all, I want to get some guidance on a potential upcoming hardware refresh.

In 2020, I bought the as-of-then newly-released Apple AirPods Max over the ear headphones. It features a Lightning input, and to that end I combined the headphones with a Lightning to Aux cable in tandem with the attached peripherals in order to convert the headphones into a gaming headset.

It’s worked marvelously since then, and in addition to gaming I also use it for my job: the headset, in that combination, works with anything with an aux input. I can clearly hear the incoming audio on my end, and whoever I speak to can hear me through the attached boom mic.

But after 6 years, my AirPods Max are unfortunately no longer working, and I’m contemplating getting the new AirPods Max 2. But those are USB-C only, and I want to ensure that my current setup (aux cable + 2x aux splitter + attached aux boom mic) is doable with the AirPods Max 2 in the exact same manner as they were with my now-defunct pair of AirPods Max Lightning-edition.

Can anyone please confirm I can replicate my cherished setup?

Thank you!

I love the new beats!

Ugh I can’t wait for these to come out they look better than the AirPod maxes already!

How to make sure that my AirPods Max 2 are connected through USB C and playing audio through USB C ?

Other than “USB Audio” is there any other way?

Cause with my old Nothing headphone (1), it used to show nothing headphone (1) USD in sound settings. But with AirPods Max 2 it’s showing Bluetooth.

Is it how it is ?

EDIT : I just find out that even with Bluetooth turn off I can still use my AirPods Max 2 with wired audio. But it should be showing Type USB right? Instead of Bluetooth.

Non AirPods Max Suggestion

Hey guys
There is Sony XM6 I grabbed for Effective 215$ ( 265$ - 50$ coupon ) on eBay certified refurbished
And I see Bose QC gen 2 for 295$ ( 345$ - 50$ Amex cashback ) Bose offical website

Also one more Bose QC gen 1 for 195$

I did use XM6 and feel the ear cups are a bit small
( have to get extra large 3rd part one’s ) which means 25-30$ extra investment again

And I used QC gen 1 and felt very comfortable default ones

Have any of you painted on yours?

I always see people with the same exact like chrome spiderman or like star covers on their maxes walking around. Have any of you actually painted on your pair?

Ear Cushion Sound Quality Difference

I repaired a set of first gen AirPod Max's that didn't come with ear cushions, so I have no baseline of what they should sound like. I have never tried on or listened to APM's before receiving this pair. I ordered a cheap set of cushions on Aliexpress in case the repair was successful.

After completing the repair and trying them for the first time with the aftermarket ear cushions, I wasn't really impressed with the sound quality. After doing some research, it may be that the aftermarket ear cushions could be part of the problem.

For anyone who has had original vs. aftermarket ear cushions, is this truly a noticeable difference? I can't believe official replacements are $69 USD.

Back up headphone recommendations

I know this is an AirPods Max sub but I feel like I’ve found my crew so I’m going to ask this here. I bought my APM 2 a month ago and I’m loving them, no complaints at all. I planned to take them everywhere with me - work commute to and from London and on holiday. Then I got them (and the invoice) and now I just want to keep them safely at home for use on the Mac and Apple TV given the price I paid 😂. The anxiety I’d have wearing them out worried about them getting swiped on the train.

So now I’m looking for some headphones that I can use exclusively for my commute. I’m not after something super expensive like the APM, but obviously adequate sound quality and comfort. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Sony XM6 vs. AirPods Max 2 for University

I've been looking to buy a new pair of headphones for university, and since I already own most of the Apple ecosystem (MacBook, iPad, and iPhone), I'm currently deciding between the Sony WH-1000XM6 and AirPods Max.

I know both have excellent noise cancellation, which is a key factor, but I have a few concerns that are making it difficult to choose:

  1. AirPods Max weight: I've seen very mixed opinions about their weight. Some people say they're too heavy and become uncomfortable after a while, while others have no issues with them. What has your experience been?
  2. XM6 hinges: I've heard some concerns about the durability of the hinges on the XM6. Is this actually something I should worry about?
  3. Price: The XM6s are around €400, while the AirPods Max are around €570, so there's a pretty significant difference, which I'm not sure is justifiable.

The most important thing for me is comfort as well, especially being able to wear them for several hours while studying.

Which one would you recommend, and why?

AppleCare+ headband replacement‼️

I have the AirPods Pro max 1 (usb c) and I’ve had them for sometime now and the headband is starting to stretch and rip apart… I have Apple care plus and was wondering if they replace my AirPods or just the headband. Also since mine are the 1st gen but the usb c version if I get a replacement would it be the newer model?

Title: AirPods Max connect but have NO audio — I use Android, tried everything

My friend gave me his AirPods Max. He said they had been completely discharged for several days before giving them to me.

I’m using an Android phone, NOT an iPhone, and I also tested them with a Windows laptop.

The weird thing is that everything seems to work normally:

🟢 Green light works

🟠 Amber/orange light works

⚪ White pairing light works

They enter pairing mode normally

They connect successfully to my Android phone

They also connect successfully to my Windows laptop

I have already factory-reset them multiple times

But there is absolutely ZERO audio. No music, no sound, nothing.

I’ve tried forgetting/re-pairing them, restarting, factory resetting, checking Bluetooth/media audio settings, and everything else I could find. The exact same issue happens on both Android and Windows.

I know AirPods Max are designed primarily for Apple devices, but they should still work as normal Bluetooth headphones with Android/Windows.

Could this be a hardware/audio issue? Has anyone using Android with AirPods Max experienced something like this?

I’m trying to figure out if there’s anything else I can test before sending them for

Make lightning AirPod Max to type C?

I have a AirPod Max, the lightning version and from what I know I know you could take apart like just one part of your headset meaning I could take out just the right side of my AirPod Max, where the charging port is at I was wondering if I can get a type seat version of that just one part and place that into mine old AirPod Max

I feel like I haven’t explained this very well so the AirPod Max are connected with the bands and you could use a SIM pin to disconnect them I’m not skilled enough to solder anything my question is can I replace one of the pods with the c type version pod?

Dose anybody know how to fix this? You would have to watch the YouTube short, as it's the same problem i have. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3AFNRewD99A

So this problem happened after I washed my ear cushion. It was 95% dry, with some parts of the inner wall damp, but it still worked for some time till I put it on to charge. After that, I tried to connect it, and it would not work, so I left it till the next day, and now, for the past 3 days, it has the same problem as what is shown in the YouTube short.
And I put it in the freezer/fridge. So who knows, I might have water damage.
Oh btw, the same day it stopped working, the white strip of plastic keeping the fabric on came off for the right ear. So idk if that is a problem

Discoloration/Stain

I’m trying to figure out how to safely remove these stains from the AirPods without damaging the material. Any tips?

I noticed these yellowish/brownish stains on my AirPods and couldn’t figure out where they were coming from. Then I realized my brand new tote bag itself is rubbing off onto the AirPods and leaving residue/stains on them. And even underneath the silicon protection.
