On campus jobs?

Hi everyone, I am a first year starting fall 2026 in Bachelors in applied Science. Is it possible as first year student to get on-campus jobs? If yes, what could be an effective approach to get these jobs. Since I am an international student, I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter. Also, on the university career page I have seen ‘Casual Administrative Jobs’. I applied for them but what the scene for those jobs?

When can I register my 5th subject?

Hi everyone, I just registered my subjects for first semester (BASc) which starts in fall 2026. As I am an International student, I thought that I should register for only 4 subjects to keep it easy at the start. From what I understand, the max number of subjects I can register for is 5. My question is when can I register for the fifth subject that i didn't register in first sem?

Every subsequent semester has mandatory 5 subjects. Can I register for 6 subjects in any other semester. Please help me on this one.

What should I add in my 'Job Experience' section of Resume?

Hi Everyone, I will be going to Canada for my bachelors degree this fall. I just completed my 12th. After reaching there, I plan to work part-time to cover my expenses. My question is what should I add in my 'job experience' section of the resume because I have never worked before. My target employers are superstores, coffee shops, warehouses, etc.

Another thing I wanted to ask- is going from store to store handing out my resume and effective trick? Or should I just apply online on platforms like Indeed and Glassdoor?

What's the pattern of approval?

Hi everyone, I applied for my study visa on 29 may. It's been 21 days. Some people I know who filed for visa on 27 and 28 may just got their visa. Do the visa officers review files according to the dates of submission or they pick files randomly? I filed from India.

Petroleum or Sustainable?

Hi everyone, I am going to start my bachelors degree in Energy Systems Engineering this year in Canada. In my course, I can choose my concentration to be either petroleum extraction or Sustainable energy or energy storage and transportation. I am an international student and chose to pursue my studies in Canada as I thought Canada is rich in minerals and natural resources. What's the scope of this type of degree? What concentration would you suggest?

Which engineering college best for me?

Which college best for me?

Hi everyone, I am from Punjab. I got 92.6% in non medical class 12. I gave a very vague attempt in Jee which went really really bad (65% percentile). Which college will be best for me and also give me admission based on my marks?

How many subjects?

Hello everyone, I am starting my bachelor in Energy Systems Engineering in fall 2026. Currently, I am registering my subjects for fall semester. Should I register for 4 subjects (to keep it easy) or all 5? I am asking this because I am also going to do part-time job along with studies. Also, I am an international student. If I do take 4 subjects, will I have to take 6 subjects in my coming semester?

Please tell me what is the more strategic move. Taking 4 subjects in my first sem or 5?

Placement in Thapar.

Hi everyone, I an still in search of a good college. I want to go for core engineering branches like chemical and mechanical. I have already read many post on this topic but I am still unsure. Let's suppose, I do remain in top 10% in my class, get good cgpa and do everything I am supposed to, will I have a real chance in placement? Does the faculty help worthy students to get placement?

Also, what salary can I expect in the branches I mentioned above for freshers if I graduate from thapar?

Will I get admission in Thapar?

Hi everyone, I just completed my 12th grade and got 92.6%. I gave a very vague jee attempt in January which went really really bad. I got 65 percentile. I want to go for core engineering branches (mechanical/electrical/chemical). Will I get admission just based on my marks? Or is there a 'funds' system and buy my way in?

Part-time jobs in Regina.

Hi everyone,

I am an international student beginning my bachelors degree in fall 2026 at UofR. I want to ask about the part-time job scene in regina. I have never been to canada but I am moderately fluent in english and understand people from there so I don't expect to have a communication problem. No previous job experience. I am open for anything - waiting tables, barista, stocking warehouses, etc. Will I be able to find a part-time job? Do I need a certain type of skill?

Advice or strategies are welcome.

CS 110

Hi everyone,

I am beginning my bachelor studies at University of Regina in fall 2026. My program is Energy Systems Engineering. In my first semester, i registered for CS 110 course. From what I know, it's C++ programming language. CS 110 is the only programming course in my entire 4 year degree. (Right?)

Now, i don't have any experience of coding. I have never learnt or tried to learn coding. But I do have a couple of months free now. Should I learn C++ before starting my first semester in order to have an extra advantage?

If yes, should I learn the full course in detail?

Housing Confirmation Email

I just got an e-mail form the University confirming my stay at kisik tower for fall 2026. I am a ISD scholarship recipient which includes private room with private washroom. However, I got assigned a 2 bedroom apartment w/ cooktop. Also, the email had no mention of the scholarship (that my living costs are covered). Now what do I do? Do I change it?

  1. Is a 2 bedroom apartment w/ cooktop better than private room+ private washroom?

  2. Can I know in advance who will be my roommate? (I am asking this because I am a vegetarian and have never touched meat. So, is there an option where I can choose my roommate to be vegetarian as well?)

  3. Will the scholarship be covering the 2 bedroom apartment or it only pays for private room + private washroom?

I would really appreciate any help on this matter.

How to afford new tution fee?

Hello everyone,

I am enrolled for fall 2026 at University of Regina in energy systems engineering program. I am an international student. Last month, the University increase the tution fee from 27k to 32k per year. Tbh, that is way too much for me. Though I have already paid tution fee for first year, but how the hell am I supposed to pay for the subsequent years?? I enrolled for this university when the fee was 27k.

(I don't have to pay living expenses as I got a scholarship for that)

It's pride month and netflix removed 'call me by your name' from their app

It's the first day of June and I have been looking forward to watching my all time favourite 'call me by your name'. Everything was set; the popcorn, the lighting and the mood. The look of shock on my face when the movie was nowhere to be found should be framed. Please someone tell me when will it come back😭😭😭😭😭😭

How much commission does my immigration lawyer get?

I am an Indian student who applied for study permit in canada. My immigration lawyer helped me get an offer letter from University of Regina. She has helped me and represented me for over an year now. Though, I was uncertain about her visa filing methods so I submitted my study permit application form another trusted lawyer. I know I betrayed her (that's what I feel). She refuses to take any money from us for getting me an offer letter out of courtesy. My question is how much commission is she getting from the University of Regina. I am asking this so that I don't feel guilty of not paying her anything.

Math 110 fully booked

I am a first year engineering student at University of Regina. I am doing energy system engineering. As I got a conditional offer letter for the fall 2026, my time ticket allowed me to register only after 30th of April. By that point, all classes were full. I could not find a single schedule on VSB that I can register for especially because of MATH 110 lab being fully booked.

In the end, I just managed to register for four subjects only but I still want to change the schedule. What's the solution to this? Is Math 110 lab and ENGG 100 lab always gonna stay fully booked?

Another thing I wanted to share is what happened between me and Melissa Berwald (Academic Advisor for first year students). I booked a session with her and due to an emergency, I stood her up. I immediately apologized and booked another session. In the next session, she didn't show up and I waited am entire hour for her. I know it was my fault first but how do I make peace with her?

Question regarding Tier-1 Scholarship at U OF R

I got accepted for tier-1 Scholarship at University Of Regina. I am enrolled for bachelor in energy system engineering program. One of the main the requirements of this scholarship is that you must get 75% in first year and 80% in subsequent years. My question is how hard is it to fulfill this condition. Is getting 80% in a program such as mine a hard and challenging thing?

Please help me out on this query.
