Hello, makers! I need a desk chair.
I’m a cog in the public sector machine and I need a really great chair for my 8-5 cubicle job. I have musculoskeletal and circulatory disease that makes sitting in the same position, especially for days on end, very uncomfortable and even dangerous at times. Happy to pay $$$Several USD for THE Chair ™
Goals:
•Extra wide and deep seat pan with NO “waterfall” front or contouring of the cushion forcing legs into a certain position — maybe 24” square?
•High back that’s NOT a bucket seat style, with a crank or notch adjustment to push a lumbar support forward/backward and slide up or down, and a head rest that can tilt forward/backward or detach entirely like in a car. I like the clicky/ratcheting style in some sporty 2doors where you pull forward incrementally until a forward-most threshold that frees it to flip all the way back and start again?
•Foot/leg rest on center mount sliding rail/rails to either
>>a) Tilt outward like a recliner’s and extend away from the seat a little to lift feet off the ground occasionally
>>b) Extend away from the chair and tilt inwards to rest shins against where feet would be “tucked” under the seat
•A replaceable cover? Or something I could slip a washable cover over? It’s okay if it’s elastic or not super “fitted” to the chair. Some of the custom chair companies I’ve seen have zipper fitted covers made just for their chairs but they’re also super marked up because they’re proprietary
•A separate foot rest stool with maybe some kind of hook to mount it under or on the back of the chair for storage? Would be nice.
Requirements:
•5-arm rolling caster base (per OSHA)
•Adjustable height arm rests that can fully get out of the way on sides, probably have to be mounted to the back of the chair on some kind of sliding rail to go up/down and then either swing around to the back or bend up or down for side clearance
•A back lean/recline adjust dial that won’t let the chair suddenly tilt way back and roll out from under me throwing me to the ground with no counterbalance
I’m in the Austin, TX area and have no firm timeline. I just wanna buy the RIGHT thing.
