The former Toys "R" Us "Geoffrey" store in Meridian, Mississippi has a new tenant

As of summer 2026, what was once one of the few surviving examples of the Geoffrey/Geoffrey's Toys "R" Us prototype stores from 2002, located in Meridian, Mississippi, has now been converted into a consignment gallery store, and from what I can tell in some pictures, it still has the flooring and paint job untouched from its time as a Geoffrey store.

Another successful barefoot day for me!

I was barefoot all day, and I'm still barefoot right now.

The barefoot jewelry I wore continued to do a great job of disguising my bare feet in every place I've visited today, including the YMCA, Kwik Trip, Meijer, Burger King, the laundromat and Dollar General.

I only wore "foot prisons" with my gym clothes for an hour of workouts before changing back into my street clothes and barefoot jewelry.

I walked around quite a lot, it was fun feeling all kinds of textures under the bare soles of my two feet, ranging from coarse asphalt to smooth tile flooring. It was very stimulating!

No one questioned me about my odd fashion choice.

Barefoot window-shopping

I decided to do some barefoot window-shopping at my local strip mall on June 22. I then went to Walgreens later to buy some refreshments before heading home. My bare feet were sore with dirty soles, but it was totally worth it on that warm summer day.

The places I went that day:

  • Ross Dress For Less
  • Five Below
  • Dollar Tree
  • Sierra
  • T.J. Maxx/HomeGoods
  • Burlington
  • Walgreens

If you want to see pictures of me from that day, they are posted here:

The "Bare Sole Loophole"

It's the name I've given to when barefooters cover their bare feet up with barefoot sandal jewelry or tattoos that look like sandal straps to trick people in public places while going about their barefoot lifestyles, only leaving just the soles of their feet exposed to the ground or floor.

Being barefoot part-time has helped me be more self-confident about having my bare feet exposed

Ever since I started to alternate between wearing minimalist sneakers, Xero Sandals, going completely barefoot and wearing foot jewelry/soleless sandals this spring and summer, I've become more confident about being mostly barefoot (or close to it on some occasions) at times when I used to take my feet and their health for granted.

This spring and summer, I've made it a goal to have my bare feet mostly exposed outside the house six days a week, opting to wear Xero Sandals on some days and barefoot jewelry to run errands on other days, since both options allow my feet to breathe.

The only time I wear socks/minimalist sneakers, is when working out and walking around the track at the YMCA on Wednesdays, doing so for safety reasons posted in the gym's rules.

After an hour at the gym and doing my weekly grocery shopping, I head home, change out of my minimalist sneakers in the evening, resuming the second barefoot half of my week leading into Thursday after being shod for a very small part of Wednesday.

I've also made it a habit of mine to be barefoot in a pair of pajamas when I go to sleep every night.

I've officially become a part-time seasonal barefooter!

A map I created of all states in the United States that have ever had a ShopKo, ShopKo Hometown or Twin Valu store.

As one can see, Green Bay, Wisconsin-based ShopKo once covered a large region of the United States with their big box retail presence before their early 2019 demise and resurrection as ShopKo Optical, a retailer of eyeglasses.

ShopKo operated a short-lived supercenter concept in association with SuperValu Foods while still partly owned by SuperValu from 1989 to 1995 called Twin Valu.

Most of ShopKo's Hometown-branded stores were retail conversions from rural discounters Pamida and ALCO.
