Krystal and Sabre statue from E3 2000

During E3 2000, Rare had a booth that they used to promote their upcoming game “Dinosaur Planet” (which of course would eventually become “Star Fox Adventures”). Near the center of this booth was a life sized, rotating statue of Krystal and Sabre riding on a dinosaur.

This statue looked really cool and obviously had a lot of hard work and detail put into it. I’d be curious to learn if anyone knows more about this statue or what eventually became of it.

Should more Star Fox characters actually DIE?

Despite the Star Fox series taking place during times of war, relatively few characters actually die over the course of the series. Aside from (probably) James, Star Fox has never lost a team member. In Assault, just when it looks like General Pepper, Peppy, and Rob are about to die, the game shows that they survived.

Even when characters literally die, they often don’t stay dead. Andross was revived multiple times, and Pigma survived being absorbed by the Aparoids, exploding, and having the entire Aparoid race explode at the end of the game. It seems like only the minor bosses are allowed to remain dead.

How would you feel if more characters actually died (and stayed dead) over the course of future games? Do you think it would up the stakes and add more narrative weight to the story? Or would it be too dark and tonality inconsistent with the rest of the series?

Reasons why Krystal should be brought back in a future game.

Here’s some reasons why I believe Krystal should be brought back in a hypothetical future Star Fox game. Feel free to add your own!

*Untapped Backstory:
Krystal’s background is full of intrigue. She’s a telepath with mysterious abilities and a mystical staff. She’s the sole survivor of the doomed planet Cerinia, traversing the galaxy in search of answers behind her parent’s death.

There’s so many ways you could use this backstory to create new stories or craft compelling character development. Maybe whatever destroyed Cerinia is still out there threatening the galaxy in secret. Maybe Krystal has trauma she’s still trying to process. These plot points practically write themselves!

*More Female Representation:
It’s no secret that Star Fox is kind of a sausage fest. The last 3 Star Fox games have only had one female character. While Katt is great, the series has clearly fallen far behind other Nintendo franchises in terms of female representation. Krystal is the perfect character to rectify this, being a strong yet gentle soul who isn’t afraid to show her more feminine side.

*Dialogue and Banter:
Krystal is a great character to contrast with the rest of the Star Fox team. She’s got a serious sense of professionalism while still maintaining a more playful side. Her teasing/flirting with Fox was always funny. As an empath Krystal could help smooth out the rough edges in the team.

*Special Abilities:
There are a lot of special abilities that make Krystal stand out. She has her staff which packs a lot of magical powers into one nifty package. She’s a telepath capable of seeing people’s thought patterns before they even take action. She’s capable of sensing distress signals from across the galaxy. She even has a barrier ability in Assault.

There’s a lot of potential for fun gameplay mechanics and storyline elements with these abilities. You could even add more to spice things up.

*Fan Favorite Hype Factor:
*Out of all the Star Fox characters, Krystal is easily the one who is most requested to come back. Krystal’s built up an entire fanbase around herself. Imagine the hype it would generate if Nintendo were to announce her triumphant return in a future game. It would build up so much good will with the fandom. The hype videos alone would help promote any new Star Fox title.

Was this scene from the SF Direct in the actual game? If not, what happened to it?

At exactly 5 minutes into the Star Fox Direct, there’s this shot of an Arwing rotating around in a hangar. Having played through the actual game I don’t recall seeing it anywhere in the actual game.

Is it part of an alternate cutscene I haven’t found yet, or was it just cut from the game? If so do you think this was ever intended to be part of the finished product, or was this scene simply created for the direct only?

When you realize Assault was, on average, the worst reviewed Star Fox game.

This is according to the review aggregator Metacritic.

What are your favorite quotes from fan made Star Fox content?

The official Star Fox series is legendary for its endless list of quotable lines. Over the years however Star Fox fans have created their own animations, parodies, fan fics, fan games and other fan made content. Some of it has become so popular it gets quoted on its own around here from time to time.

What are your favorite quotes from fan made content based around Star Fox? It can be a line from something as popular as “A Fox in Space” or as obscure as a random YouTube comment. As long as it’s directly related to Star Fox, but not from an officially licensed source, I want to hear it.

What misconceptions about Star Fox did you once believe?

Despite not having as many games as certain other series, Star Fox is still an old classic franchise. Many of us played it as kids or in the era before social media. Others may have first heard about Star Fox from secondary sources, such as Smash Bros, before trying the games themselves.

Thus it’s only natural that many of us developed misconceptions, misunderstandings, or false preconceived notions about Star Fox. Common ones include believing that Slippy was a girl or that Fox had robotic legs.

What are some things you use to believe about Star Fox that in hindsight you were completely mistaken about?

Forget being realistic. What are your Star Fox (2026) wish fulfillment fantasies?

Before I begin, it’s always healthier to go into new games with realistic expectations. Rarely can reality ever match the perfect dream game that exists only in your imagination. Even for professionals, game development is hard work. They aren’t magicians who can manifest your deepest desires into existence.

With that being said, what if they could? What are some features, characters, or scenarios, that you would be ecstatic to see in Star Fox (2026), even though you know they are highly unlikely to be realistically included? Let your fantasies run wild and tell us your unreasonable pipe dreams for this game.

The only rule I’m going to ask for is that you can’t contradict or “fix” anything that’s already been shown. The levels, dialogue, game modes, and art style shown in the Star Fox direct all have to stay as they are. Otherwise you’d be dreaming up an entirely different game, rather than projecting your in desires into Star Fox (2026).

Should the Wolfen II return in a future Star Fox title?

Despite being the ultimate enemy ship in Star Fox 64, the Wolfen II has never really been that popular. When Star Wolf returned in future games, they were always in some variation of the original Wolfen. Even Smash Bros. only featured the Wolfen 1, with the Wolfen II not getting so much as a sticker.

However Star Fox (2026) seems to be giving the Wolfen II a more prominent role than ever before. First the ship has received a slick new redesign to accompany the overhauled visuals. More importantly the game’s multiplayer features the Wolfen II as a playable fighter.

If Star Fox is lucky enough to continue on as a franchise, would you want to see the Wolfen II return in a future game? If so do you want it to return in addition to the Wolfen I, or should it replace it entirely? Or should the Wolfen II be relegated to the dustbin of Star Fox history once its role in the upcoming remake is complete?

I think we have to accept that the voice acting will never be as good as Star Fox 64.

When it comes to Star Fox (2026), I think it’s inevitable that it’s going to be compared unfavorably to the original voice acting in Star Fox 64. Now to be clear, you can fairly criticize the new voices and dialogue for not being good enough in their own right.

However I believe SF64 set the bar so impossibly high, that nothing Nintendo could ever do would have a reasonable chance of beating it. There’s multiple reasons why I think Nintendo is in a no-win situation when it comes replicating the success of SF64’s voice acting:

*First whatever new voice acting Nintendo chooses to use, it’s going to be directly competing against 29 years worth of built up nostalgia, memes, and childhood core memories. That’s an impossible challenge even if they spent millions on hiring celebrity voice talent.

*Star Fox 64 is perhaps the most quoted game of all time. Nearly every line of dialogue, no matter how cheesy or insignificant, has become a cherished meme somewhere on the internet. Even changing a single word of dialogue is going to be noticeably jarring for a lot of players.

*Unfortunately hiring the original SF64 voice actors to reprise their roles isn’t a realistic option anymore. Most of the cast is either too old to reasonably sound like the characters they’re portraying, they’ve already retired, or they have sadly passed away.

*Reusing the original voice clips is an option, but if they did that you couldn’t create new cutscenes or dialogue. Some of the old lines might not even work anymore, such as “press Z or R twice”.

*If the new voice actors try to mimic the original dialogue 1:1, they can be seen as doing cheap imitations that sound slightly off. If they try and put their own unique spin on the characters, they can be seen as altering the original source material.

…essentially whoever the new voice actors are, they’ve got a very tough act to follow. Now I’m not asking anyone to automatically give them a pass if they turn in a poor performance.

I just hope fans give them a fair shot, rather than criticizing them for not living up to impossible expectations.

Comparing the pre-release of Star Fox Zero to the pre-release of Star Fox (2026).

Anybody remember the lead up to the release of SFZ and fans reaction to it? My memory about it was a little fuzzy so I decided to look back through decade old forums, videos, and social media.

After some research, I found a lot of interesting points to consider when comparing it to the pre-release of Star Fox (2026) today:

*Star Fox Zero’s first announcement really hyped up Star Fox fans. While not everyone liked its direction, most fans seemed delighted that we were finally getting another game like SF64.

*While not universally liked, fans were far warmer to the idea of rebooting the series at the time. Some were outright happy that Command and the GameCube games were getting de-canonized.

*Some things however never change. A vocal group of fans were disappointed that Krystal wasn’t going to be included. Some were theorizing that Krystal, Miyu, and Fay were secretly going to be included in the final game.

*Overall Zero seemed to have a lot more fan good will going for it than Star Fox (2026), at least at first. However concerns about the game became more prevalent as it got closer to release and apprehension about the mandatory motion controls grew.

*Despite this, Star Fox (2026) has seemingly stirred up far more controversy than Zero ever did pre-release (post release is a different story).

*The press reception at E3 2015 however was not kind to the game. A lot of gaming journalists were complaining about the controls (sometimes directly to Nintendo representatives). Another common criticism was that the graphics looked basic and underwhelming.

*Zero had a shockingly small social media presence compared to Star Fox (2026). The only places I really found it discussed about was with old YouTube comments, gaming journalists, and the SF-Online Forums. The main trailer only had a few 100 likes and about a dozen comments on r/starfox.

*Despite being Nintendo’s main attraction at E3 2015, the trailers and commercials never got a lot of traction. The most watched trailer had just over 1 million views. The rest all had under 700,000 views, and that’s after 10 years.

…now I will admit my research didn’t cover everything so I’m sure there’s other points I’m missing out on. Also since a lot of fan comments about Zero at the time are difficult to track down, my results could be skewed by a few vocal fans.

Anyway, do any of you have memories about the Star Fox fandom during the pre-release of Zero?

A reminder from when Star Fox was at the peak of its mainstream popularity.

It’s hard to believe you used to see Star Fox advertising like this out in the open at places like Taco Bell, Walmart, or even gas stations. I love how the Walmart flyer advertises Fox more than it does Mario, Metroid, or Animal Crossing.

This subreddit has grown exponentially over the last 50 days.

This is self evident to anyone who’s been here longer than 2 months, but I don’t think some of us realize just how much we’ve grown.

Just 50 days ago r/starfox had around 35K weekly visitors. This put us somewhere between r/earthbound and r/rhythmgames subreddits in terms of activity. However with the Mario Galaxy Movie, leak rumors, and the latest Star Fox Direct, we’ve rapidly grown from 35K, to 60K, then 100K, to now 176K weekly visitors.

To put this into perspective we’ve quickly blown past the r/donkeykong, r/kirby, r/metroid, and r/splatoon subreddits in terms of weekly visitors. I believe we’re now the 7th most popular dedicated Nintendo series subreddit, just slightly behind r/fireemblem and r/smashbros.

It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come from the beginning of the year. All 15 of the top Star Fox subreddit posts of all time have come from the last month. Regardless of what happens to Star Fox 26, at the very least it seems the Star Fox fandom is finally back.

Did Star Fox for Switch 2 just confirm Slippy is from Aquas?

If you pause the Nintendo Direct when Slippy is geeking out about a stable warp channel, you can see this poster next to Fox. It says “Home Sweet Home” on it and shows a vast open ocean with no visible land in sight.

While this technically could be any planet with sufficient water, it by far fits the description of Aquas the best. This poster seems to be saying a member of Star Fox calls the planet home.

For years fans have been theorizing that Slippy comes from Aquas due to the time he spends on the planet in Command. I’m thinking this poster might be a confirmation of that.

What do you think? Is this Slippy’s poster we’re looking at, or something else?

While it’s rare, we do get a few glimpses inside the Great Fox throughout the series. We know at a minimum the ship has a large bridge in the front, two hangar bays, and a long skinny hallway.

The Great Fox also appears to have had a number of retrofits over the years, as they clearly modified the bridge between Adventures and Assault.

What else do you think is inside the Great Fox? How many floors do you think the ship has and where does the team eat, work, and sleep?
