Life's too short to save parts. Threw the Brooks saddle and Miche seatpost on the bike, and while I set those up, I thought, might as well shake down my Nitto Rb-021 pursuits as well. Still dialing everything in, but she's close!
Deadstock Miche Supertype courtesy of Ben's Cycle, Milwaukee 🤝Do I use it now or save it for a possible n+1 down the road? 🤔
Performance had a sale recently, so I scooped one up to see what the hype is all about. Shit's heavy as hell, but purdy 😍
It wasn't terribly off. Chain ran smooth and never hopped. I only noticed when I swapped my cog onto a new wheel-set and saw its uneven wear (anodized ftw). I didn't know the size of the bb spindle it had, and wasn't gonna have LBS overhaul it just to find out. I managed to dig up some mfg specs for the crank which recommended 107mm or 110mm and just rolled the dice that 107mm was a size down and would clear. I was right for once! Old one was 110.5 mm. Chain line is definitely a lot better, visually, but runs just as smooth. It's also not perfect, but good 'nuff. If I get bored, I might FAFO if cranks clear with a 104mm, but I'm happy with the result and more confident riding it now. Also, BB was toast so it was due for an overhaul and now I know what I'm working with. Shout Out Kozy Cyclery Wrigleyville 🤜🤛
TL;DR
Chain line from 110.5mm down to 107mm, before and after
Possible, but almost as hard as re-pinning a chain outer plate
Have a fun, safe weekend. Be good, or be good at It
Which, I guess is a double entendre these days. ~20 years and my 20th pair dailying these.
Any guesses on how long these will last?
I think there's misconception that I'm new to this. Buddy, I've been Mickey Mousing dumb builds since 2009. Here's my first courier bike build cir. 2017. I wanted to put makeup on a pig and just go nuts on a Walmart Kent Thruster. I was really proud of that build. Only criticisms was that it was heavy as all hell (still 25lbs even w/ the go fast parts), and the longest chain stays in the world. This was also my first ever bike stolen 😪
Parts:
Kent Thruster frame headset, forks, and seat
Easton EC90 Tubular
Nitto 110mm quill stem
FSA Gimondi 130bcd 170mm crankset
Sugino 46t chainring
Phil Wood square bb
Generic seat post
Flat silver Velocity rim laced to a White Industries Track hub and 16t cog, custom from Wheel Builder
Good news. Yall bullied me into dotting my I's and crossing my T's. New, appropriately sized bars, complete with Odi CULT x Vans grips and plugs. Bad news, there's no room for the brake 🤷♂️ Gotta crack some eggs
Posted a few weeks ago about beloved Inigo Montoya. Life is Cold. I just finished a boarding with their dog, Satchel, this past weekend. Their other cat, Artemis, who was a mother figure for Satchel all the way from when she was a pup, crossed the rainbow the day after I had picked her up. They had gotten to say one last goodbye, but Satchel didn't know it was the last or that was gone until I returned her home today. She was looking all over the house for her momma. I'm pretty fucked up from that
Beginning of the end?
But here's my humble delivery parts-bike. I'm over getting my grail slimed. Everything shown, just under $150. She dips
