Determinism, Laws, and Punishment
Hi, I'm just curious..
There are some that argue that the individual person cannot be responsible for their actions in a deterministic universe and should therefore not be held accountable.
I, however, see laws etc. as a deterrent. I think this overall reduces crimes because it's one of the factors that individuals weigh before committing a crime. I'd assume that having no laws and therefore no punishment would increase the willingness to do harm.
Is this controversial? Thoughts?
