Do you think these people ever have the self awareness to learn and improve as humans

I know you've all seen one of these types of posts somewhere before. Some person of high wealth decides to "reset" in order to go from $0 to median or high levels of wealth in x weeks or x months or whatever.

And i get why. Western societies are capitalist meritocracies so who they *inherently* are is a wealthy person. If they gave away everything and started over, they'd be back to where they were in a fortnight, and being poor and homeless is a personal choice.

And *every one* of the stories I've read ends with them not making enough money. Whether it was luck, connections, always being nice to grandfather, the path they took to fortune could not be replicated a second time even with all the new things they learned along the way.

But I've never read any of these types of stories where the "self made millionaire" reflects on how the vagaries of circumstance highly influences whether you sleep on the streets or in a mansion, and that maybe we need to build a society that has a minimum duty of care for people down on their luck.

Only about 50% of Americans own their homes

The gist of it is, if you were living with your parents because housing is too high, you were counted as owning your home in the "house occupied by owner" stat typically used to show home ownership. In fact if you lived in a house where you rent a room from the owner, who also lives there, you'd be counted as a home owner. New study looks at "are you on the mortgage or the underage child of the person on the mortgage, if not you don't own the house" and find the number is 53%.

China is 90% btw.

Full AI Communism

OpenAI argues that free and open source AI models should be regulatory complianced out of existence because their existence threatens dumptrucks of VC money being pumped into OpenAI.

They further paint a dystopia where AI is freely available and anyone can use frontier models.

AlL THE gDp iS In ThE ciTIeS BrO

Look I'm definitely a one person one vote electioncel but you know what grinds my gourd?

I was out in Amish country just the other day. Josiah out there is growing 6 tons of corn. He harvests it with his tractor built in peoria from steel from Clancy, and then trucks it to a corn dryer in Logansport and then stores it in a granary in Waupaca. The corn is then loaded on a train built in Lancaster and sent to a canning factory in Los Banos where it is then shipped to a warehouse in Kerrville.

And then some guy in an office in New York snorts a huge line of Adderall off his desk, leans back and rubs his nose, then leans forward again to press a button to buy 69,000,000 cans of corn, generating $420,000,000 in economic activity.

I'm a computer toucher so I'm legally obligated to argue touching computers is work, but it too often feels like people don't understand that the value that allows for economic activity in big cities is all predicated on labor that is not done in cities. It feels like were sliding back into mercantilism sometimes.

And i suppose i do need to put a disclaimer that I disagree with pol pot and that he was a big meanie.

Trees doing the fenty fold?

I noticed several of my normally rigid and erect trees are pretty flaccid right now. I swear this has never happened before, will it go away after it stops being so wet or do I need to get a splint and push it in or something?

I am not crazy! I know he swapped the plates!

I am not crazy! I know he swapped those plates. I knew it was 4 pieces. Two before 6 - 7. As if I could ever make such a mistake. Never. Never! I just – I just couldn’t prove it. He covered his tracks, he got that idiot at the props department to lie for him.

You think this is something? You think this is bad? This? This chicanery? He’s done worse. That granddaughter! Are you telling me that a girl just happens to age like that? No! He orchestrated it! Bince! He misrepresented the purity of meth! And I watched him! And I shouldn’t have.

I took him into my own DVD collection! What was I thinking? He’ll never change. He’ll never change! Ever since he was 26, always the same! Couldn’t keep his continuity in the shot! But not our Bince! Couldn’t be precious Bince! Emmy-baiting them blind!

And HE gets to be a writer/director? What a sick joke! I should’ve stopped watching when I had the chance! …And you, you have to stop watching! You
