What all do you get on your birthday month? I can’t recall

My birthday is September. I know I get a free gift. And I think also I recall a $10 off coupon? Is there anything else? Like a % off coupon?

I’m platinum if that matters.

I need a few things, but if I get a %off coupon in a couple weeks, I’d rather wait.

I assume Ulta will be getting the Natasha denona I Need a Cool palette. Have you seen it? What do you think?

I wear almost exclusively Natasha denona shadow because I like her formulas. I’ve been saving points and waiting and waiting for a new ND palette that would work for me.

Im very fair and cool. EVERYTHING turns orange on me. When I saw that there would be “I need a cool” I was beyond excited!! It’s finally happening!!

But looking at it closer, I’m disappointed. I don’t take huge issue with the monochromatic aspect of lots of her palettes. But this is very boring. We couldn’t get like a mauve or a purple toned taupe or something. Plus, all these colors appear so far to be colors very much the same as colors I already have from her.

I’m waiting to see it in person. But I’m bummed. PLEASE release something awesome again ND!!

Looking for something around $250 for an anniversary that doesn’t require dressing up.

Looking for a Chicago restaurant (I actually live over the border in WI) that will feel like a special meal but doesn’t require dressing terribly nice. Is this a thing?

I’d like to cap it at around $250, but could raise that a little if it’s really worth it.

My husband literally doesn’t own dressy shirts or pants that aren’t jeans. Like the fanciest he gets is probably a western shirt. And I’m not going to have him get and wear clothes he doesn’t like

We like all kinds of food! I can’t think of anything that we really aren’t into.

I should add that usually a nice meal for us is $150-175 type of range. So we are not in need of something Michelin starred or anything for us to feel like it was a special experience.

What to look for in a 2006 with 150,000 miles

I’m going to look at a Jeep to possibly purchase. It’s an 06 Unlimited. 4.0 6cyl. Looks really nice actually.

I learned to drive in a 94 wrangler and drove it for about 13 years. But I’m not mechanically inclined. I don’t have anyone who can go with me today, but I would have my dad join me before I buy.

But for now- what glaring things should I ask or look for. Appears to be stock. Not too bad on the rust either.

$5500 Is 150,000 too high of miles? Mine was at 200,000 and still ran good when I sold it.

This would be just for around town and to possibly give my son when he starts driving next year.

Do you strictly enforce your company’s attendance policy?

If your company has an attendance policy, are you fairly strict about enforcing it with your team?

My company has a fairly strict policy. No more than 3 unscheduled absences in a rolling 6 month period. In my department, it hasn’t really been monitored or enforced much, to my knowledge, for many years. For full context, very little has been enforced or managed for a loooong time, which has good and bad sides, but has definitely caused issues. But I am a coordinator now for about 5 months.

In some of my HR training, I asked whether we had some discretion with this. I’m not really looking to put a good employee in disciplinary for having something unexpected come up that leads to a call-in too many. HR recommended that I stick to the policy (in retrospect, duh, of course they did.) the reasoning being that it’s hard to make sure things are all fair if manager discretion is allowed willy nilly

I really don’t want to be the new leader that has everyone upset due to cracking down on rules that were not enforced previously. But I have to answer to my boss, HR, dept director etc. I have one employee, for example, who has called in 7 times in the last 6 months. She specializes, so it’s genuinely a hardship when she’s unexpectedly out so often.

I guess I’m just trying to gauge how good managers recommend handling attendance policies regarding unscheduled absences.

Thoughts on non-Minnesotans rocking the rebel loon?

I do not live in Minnesota. I live in Wi. Have visited quite a few times, though.

The way you all handled your ice invasion was commendable and inspiring. I kind of want some rebel loon merch, maybe a car decal or t shirt. I view it as a show of appreciation or support, kind of like a band tee. I’m not Willie Nelson or Jason Isbell either, but I sometimes wear their images on my t shirt. You know?

But is it viewed as sort of a stolen valor type of thing by minnesotans?

Advice please on how to handle an employee who is mad at me and lashing out.

I was promoted early this year and am now middle-managing the people I used to be a peer of. There are 24 people on the team. We all have the same job title (except me now,) and work for the same department, but there are a couple of small teams within the overall group that have different, specific tasks and responsibilities.

Recently, we had to make a sudden change. One of those smaller teams, team A, has an employee who is severely struggling due to physical and mental health issues. I went to MY manager and the director above her, they agreed she needs to come off of Team A as that team is very small and handles an important aspect of business.

We found something simpler for this employee to do while I figure out whether we can keep her on, but then we still needed someone to move into Team A. The decision was suggested by my manager and agreed upon by me, manager, and dept director to move an employee, let’s call her Mary, onto team A. We really talked over all of the options, but due to complex staffing things, Mary is really the only viable option right now. Mary is a very competent employee who would like to work from home more, and this role would allow for that. So I know getting your responsibilities changed isn’t fun, but I thought in the long run, she’d actually be pleased due to more possibility to WFh.

Mary is PISSED. I told her about the change last Wednesday, and she said “I don’t like that, I’ll just transfer out of the whole dept then.” Which I let my manager know, and she said to proceed with the change. I offered Mary other options. I said we can put someone else on team A if Mary wants to transfer into that persons role instead. Mary doesn’t want that either. I met with her the next morning and asked if there is anything I can do to support her transition. She said no.

She’s now sent me multiple emails stating that I’m disrespectful, unprofessional, she feels this is a personal attack (it’s absolutely not.) she seems to think I personally made this decision to be mean to her. She knows I have to do what I’m told by those above me, so I’m not sure why she thinks this. When I’ve actually talked to her, she doesn’t really talk much. Then I get emails stating the things like above.

She says in her emails that she doesn’t feel comfortable with me now and doesnt want to discuss this further unless someone from HR is present. (Not even my manager) but then, in the same email makes accusations against me AND asks questions about her new role.

I was out of town a few days and will be back tomorrow. We work in the same general area. And I’m her supervisor.

What would you do? Stop in her office and offer once more to talk? I haven’t passed the buck or anything because I don’t like saying “well the boss made me do it” but she has worked with me since I got this job, she knows I don’t make these kinds of decisions, only offer suggestions.

Would you just ignore her unless she reaches out? Try to clear up her misunderstanding of the situation? Explain how we came to the decision and that it’s not personal?

Cheaper alternative to Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue

I’ve used Bareminerals complexion rescue for about a decade now. I adore it. It’s soothing to my sensitive skin, has some sunscreen. Works well with my other makeup and moisturizers. If I want more coverage I mix it with my Nars foundation. I love it.

But it’s gone up and up and up in price. It’s not a “little goes a long way” product either. Like it’s fine, but I justify the NARS light reflecting foundation because it lasts FOREVER and ever.

Is there a cheaper alternative that’s very similar? I’m afraid of wasting a bunch of money trying cheaper things only to wind up buying this anyway, which has happened before with a couple of my staples. And I’m really trying to be on a budget!

Tia.

Could hosts share feedback on a message I sent?

I have a trip coming up I. About 3 weeks that I booked maybe a month ago. My husband and I (40s) and our kids (2 17 year olds and a 14 year old) are the travelers.

When searching for places, I had marked us as 4 adults and one child. It seems sort of arbitrary, and for MOST purposes, including hotels, we are 2 adults and 3 children. While Airbnb states that kids are up to age 12. I search the way I did because it returns the best sleeping arrangements as a fit for us. But then all of a sudden I panicked that my kid being 2 years older than stated (14 vs 12) might be an issue?

Anyway, I sent a message to the host explaining and asking if there’s anything I need to do to correct it and just being upfront so they didn’t see us show up and feel like I was dishonest.

I sent the message yesterday. It’s been read, but I haven’t gotten a reply.

Is this a much bigger deal than I thought? Are they maybe considering what to do about something I thought was literally no big deal. I mean, he’s definitely still a child.
