Apartment Scam

This happened in my building this past week, sorry it's a bit scattered, trying to find the right way to explain everything that happened. And I've gathered this story through talking with my neighbors so I'm still not sure about *a lot*:

Someone moved into our building, full on; furniture, two dogs everything: *moved in*. Then they showed up one day and the locks were replaced. I don't think they were in the building for now than only a few days.

Police were called, property management shows up and says they've never interacted with this couple.

The story is that they paid *someone* a deposit and first month's rent, and claim they "signed" for a 2 bedroom for $1750 a month!! And were never given a building key or mail key? Nothing adds up.

Like ... I don't even know what to believe anymore. They very well could have just toured the apartment and just kept the key and moved in. Or they very well could have been duped by some crazy Craigslist duplicate post or something.

Keep an eye out there everybody. If it sounds too good to be true...

Toast Tabs QR Code and Splitting the bill

This got my blood boiling. I'm usually able to keep my cool in literally any situation. Drunk 10 top? Kids? High maintenance old ladies? Put them in Steve's section. I also try very hard to not get into the "people suck, people are dumb" mentality/mantra; usually doesn't make for a lucrative night.

Last night I had a group of 6. They were the type of polite that was also too apprehensive to voice literally anything. Finally got them to loosen up a bit, got the order in, and we're off.

It was pretty slow, so we ended up cutting my second server, which doubled my section from 6 tables to 12.

This table was ready to cash out, so I bring the bill. Now, often I mention there's the QR code and the ability to pay on your phone, but if you want to split it, it's much easier for me to do it on my handheld or in the station than to have them do it in the browser/app themselves. That did not get communicated, which obviously is my fault.

They split it on their phones, and sure enough I've got $40 and change that has not been settled up yet.

So I approach, "hey, I see you tried to pay with the app... Do we need any help?" And this is when their apprehension and shyness worked against me so hard. No one was willing to admit anything. They all thought they should have paid $X. And I went through each payment that has gone through, and one girl finally said, ok.... I guess put the rest on this card. I did so, and at my next visit, we ended up in what I can only describe as a friendly, quiet, patient heated exchange.

This girl kept telling me I over changed her, as I'm showing her all the receipts and authorizations, she keeps pointing to these emails, which were the digital receipts, not the authorizations for payment.

Friends, it took it all out of me. I was so over it at this point. AND, neither my host nor my managers (who were basically checked out and now drinking at the bar) had any idea what I was dealing with, and I got sat with 2 2tops and a 5 top, all of which were extremely ready to order from me by the time I had Fred myself from this utter nonsense.

Frustrated and typing on my phone, sorry if this is incoherent and pieces to the story are missing.

I do want to ask who uses ToastTabs and has run into this problem and how you navigate it.

Rant over. Fuck these people suck sometimes.
