8/19/26 FOBBV Update: Kaydee

fobbv.official Shadow's Shadow...

Regarding KD1 and giving this eagle a name. Generally, Friends of Big Bear Valley does not give names to nest visitors unless they have been around long-term...until now. We have chosen to name KD1 Kaydee, whether or not they decide to stay in the area.

8/10/26 Ojai Raptor Center Update 🥺

“Patient Update: Bald Eagle 26-519

It is with profound sadness that we share that Patient 26-519 passed away in the early hours of this morning, following more than three weeks of intensive medical care.

Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists. She remained critically ill, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring in our intensive care unit.

Throughout her time at Ojai Raptor Center, every decision was guided by the available medical evidence, her welfare, and our responsibility to do what was in her best interest.

Her remains have been transferred into the care of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW).

We know this news will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey, hoped alongside us, prayed for her, and supported the people caring for her.

Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her.

We ask for patience and kindness as our staff process this loss. We are working closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and will provide a more comprehensive statement including additional information on her treatments and test results.

To protect our staff and community during this difficult time, comments on this post have been turned off.

To everyone who cared about Patient 26-519, thank you. Thank you for your messages, your prayers, your encouragement, and for standing beside our team throughout these past weeks. We are deeply grateful for the way Patient 26-519 brought people together through a shared love of wildlife.”

Be kind to each other.

8/9/26 Ojai Raptor Center Update

Patient Update: Bald Eagle 26-519

The past 24 hours have been incredibly difficult.
Patient 26-519 remains critically ill, and her condition is currently unstable. Yesterday, her packed cell volume (PCV) fell below 6%.

Today it has risen to 9%. While this is a small improvement, her PCV remains critically low and her overall condition remains extremely serious.

Her care and condition are being closely evaluated by a collaborative team that includes nine veterinarians, together with representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

At this time, there is no further medical update we can provide.

Our entire focus remains on Patient 26-519's welfare and providing the care she needs. Every decision continues to be guided by her medical condition and what is in her best interest.

We will share another update when we have meaningful information to provide.

8/3/26 Ojai Raptor Center Update

Video shows the rehab manager drawing blood from 26-519 foot.

“Patient Update: Bald Eagle 26-519

Today's bloodwork brought some difficult news. Her packed cell volume (PCV) has dropped to 13%, which means her anemia has worsened since our last update.
Our veterinary team is responding quickly. Additional advanced diagnostic testing is now underway, and expedited laboratory testing has been requested as we continue working to better understand her condition and guide the next steps in her treatment.

At this stage, we do not have further answers to share, but we promise to keep you informed as soon as we have meaningful new information.

We know how deeply so many of you care about this eagle, and we are grateful for your continued encouragement and support.

At this time, we kindly ask the public and members of the media to continue respecting the veterinary and rehabilitation teams involved in her care by allowing them the time and space they need to remain focused on patient care. Please refrain from calling, texting, emailing, or visiting our facility for updates.

Thank you for standing with us as we continue doing everything possible for Patient 26-519.”
