i made a post yesterday about my chinchilla not eating hay? but now that ive moved her hay thing back to the bottom she seems alot more interested in it. Are chins snooty like that? or is it more of a "omg i dont feel safe up here now"???

5 month old chinchilla 407g. i started to limit pellets/treats/hay cubes due to her eating less hay. unknown if its the type of hay or how old it is (bought 10# in january as i was brand new to this). but may 18th-375g, june 11-403g, june 19th 405g, june 26th 407g. Should i be more concered with weight gain then eating lots of hay at this point? or should i try to balance the two? thank you

i bought these jars, there roughly 1.5'' deep and 1'' across. she cant get her face deep enough for when stuff is on the very bottom. are chins good at reaching down into things to grab stuff? or are these just too deep? i just wanted to put treats/pellets in them. thanks :)

so ive been walking 1.5km at a time. takes me roughly 20m to walk that much. watch says 4mph average pace. HR is an average of 111. is the 111bpm abnormal? i think its fine for the pace im doing it at, but unsure. I feel fine during it/after as well. thank you :)

how do you get them back into their cage everytime?

do they really only have one favorite spot? i have a house, a box up high with 6'' tall walls, a hammock, and another 12x12 box with walls are only 2'' high....my girl said fuck all that, im only using the 6'' wall box.... is it just due to the concealment? because i would argue that the house is a better hidey hole, but its on the floor of the 2nd level, not at the roof. or am i trying to herd cats here

for this with fully grown chinchillas, how big of spacing can your chin fit through? i got these 2 dog fences im using now as an out of cage play area, but have to cover with fleece as she can slip through. theyre roughly an inch wide... do you think your chin is too fluffy to fit?

are chinchillas really ok with the basic cage interactions (food/water/applewood/treats) and going out of their cage for an hour a day day after day after day? there doesnt seem to be alot more you can do with them.

I keep in contact with my breeder who i bought my chin off 2 months ago. she seems like a really nice lady and helpful. i weighed my chin the other day and she was 377 grams. i asked the breeder what she thought and she asked what pellets/hay i was using. i told her oxbow essentials and oxbow garden select and timothy hay.

breeder said that she was under weight due to the pellets being inferior to mazuri and to the pellets she makes herself.

I thought oxbow essentials were the "gold standard" along side mazuri?

I would think the breeder is being suspect if she didnt recommend mazuri instead of her own, and she sells hers at 5$ for 10 pounds which is very cheap.

what do we all think about oxbow?

anyone ever find a mod that does this on vr? there is one called like.. "compare equipment NG" but i cant get it to work on VR as the V key does nothing. thanks 😄

when you give your chin out of cage time in another enclosed but much larger space, do they just try to escape? i hear thats the way it is but wanted to confirm. i have an 8x8 foot area for her and shes just constantly trying to jump the 4' tall fence, looking in the bottom, trying to squeeze into areas she'll never get in lol
