I compared my analog drives/board to the Quad Cortex!

After lots of feedback from here and my last video, I decided to do a follow up video discussing if the Quad Cortex could take over my whole rig and the results were way closer than I thought

Rig Rundown of my Hybrid Rig w/ Quad Cortex Mini

Decided it was time to do a video breakdown on my Quad Cortex Mini pedalboard build. In this video, I go over the thought process and tones in what this board can truly achieve!

V2 Board Built

Well, some changes have happened so it’s time to update the whole world on my rig that nobody cares about.

After gigging the QC Mini some with no amps and with amps in the rig, I really noticed that it does some things great. The amps sims are good, easy to navigate and build patches, and really ANY effect I was needing already built into it. The problem? When I am gigging, I like the physical controls of the pedals present for quick changes and with how it was routed before, I was getting the full use out of the QC Mini.

Enter in the QXM8. What this allowed was for a loop to be dedicated just as a predrive loop into the QC so I can have predrive effects and Post drive effects. Because of this, I knew it was time execute sorta V2 of this board with some rerouting, some redirecting of signals, and enable this rig to go from modeling or tube amp into doing both at the same time.

Signal routing is as such:

Patchbay > Cry Baby Jr > QXM8 > Quad Cortex Mini

QXM8 Loops:

  1. Sunface > Argonaut
  2. Quad Cortex Mini “Predrive”
This loop goes into Input 2 and out from Output 3 (see photo 2 for what that looks like)
  3. Solo Boost
  4. TS-808 Keeley Modded
  5. V1.2 OCD
  6. King of Tone (still awaiting mine. Running the StewMac 2 Tone Kings in place until I can swap that in)
  7. Venus
  8. EP Booster (always on)

The secret sauce in the routing is Loop 2. With this loop, it’s allowing me to add in compression, phase, and a predrive flanger. And with it hooked up to this loop, those can easily get switched on and off from the Footswitch on the QXM8 which is way easier to reach when you also sing.

Fx Loops out:

  1. Timeline (L) > Galaxy (L) > Lex
  2. Timeline (R) > Galaxy (R) > Flint

Both the Flint and Lex are utilizing both outputs. First output goes out to the patchbay to send to amps (The flint hits a GigRig Humdinger before that though for Phase Correction and allow for 2 amps with its signal). The other output comes right back to QC so now both FX Loops complete.

The FX Loop blocks the sit before 2 amps each on the line and give me an option to run 5 amps total at one single time. There is also going to be a preamp line to run out so in case there’s ever a need for just that, option is there for it.

I went through to show all the effects and where I set them up, but what’s also cool is cool is my only other preset. We’re doing “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” but we don’t have a keys player. So this preset does that intro, all the necessary effects, and the chords that are done on the keyboard and shifting around. And since I have that expression pedal hooked up, I can do the intro swell on that!

This board is a beast and very happy for it to be my board. But with great tones comes great control and responsibility. There’s still a lot to unfold with this and cannot wait to hear how she does!

▲ 29 r/fender

Just picked up this 1979 Fender Stratocaster! Pickups were Fat 50s so swapped back to era correct pickups and swapped from back plastics to Parchment as I’ve always loved the big headstock maple neck sunburst Strats with white plastics. She’s a beaut and plays fantastically! Sounds amazing and weighs only 8lbs! Ready to get it out on the road with me!
