Honestly, sounds like an exhaust leak

Rear cylinder noise.

Rear cylinder was rebuilt last year and now sounds like whoosing air. No major loss in power, so not expecting a head gasket

Strange "Whooshing" Noise

Saturday I took the bike out for a long ride and though the bike rode well, I noticed a loud "whooshing" noise around the rear cylinder. I believed it was only really making the noise when in gear and at a certain RPM so I have checked the primary tension and it's within spec in 4 different spots on the chain.

Today when I checked the primary, I then started the bike up and the noise is now there in neutral and stationary. Not sure how much you can gather from the video, but I hope it gives some idea. I do have another video I took today, so if I can post it into the comments, I will.

The rear cylinder has been rebuilt in the last year, and this weekend I am doing an oil change too. The plugs look clean and without any signs of poor valves etc. They're also new (two months old).

Last month, I had a bad blow back on start up and it blew the carb off the manifold. I've since put new seal on the carb side of the manifold, but not the cylinder side. Though, the noise isn't coming from between the cylinders, so I don't think it's a manifold leak.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated, especially with summer around the corner, I'd like the bike not to be stuck in the garage.

Well that's lame

Think I scraped pipe a little too much. What's worse, the nut won't tighten further.

Normal?

Still a touch paranoid after rebuilding the rear cylinder last year. This sounds normal to you guys? Was doing 80mph and thought I was hearing more than just the rattle of the fuel cap

My '98 XLH1200

Been a rocky ride with this lovely bike, but with some perseverance and stubbornness, ended up being an amazing bike.

2023 bought the bike, about 2/3 of the way through my 150 miles, the ignition went

2024 rocker boxes started rattling and the rear cylinder blew

Now, though, she's got a fully custom wiring loom, Custom Dynamics integrated rear tail light, Custom Dynamics true wrapz fork indicators, k.tek levers, TC Bros throttle, rabbit ear bars, Biltwell sissy bar, Step up seat, Burley Brand Slammer plus shocks, Cobra Neighbour Haters slip ons, VOES delete as running Dynatek S ignition, direct starter button, motone momentary control switches, ignition relocated, and ignition switch relocated, and tomorrow will be installing a Wannabe Choppers Wannasucker air filter.

I am saving for some 4" over forks and progressive spring kit and plan to chop the bike, but for now, I'm very happy with how the bike rides, sounds, and looks.
