Oosterbeek Perimeter 1944

Last night's game of a Chain of Command, from Jasper's scenario in the latest WSS Magazine where British paratroops hold the Oosterbeek Perimeter against strong German attacks supported by a King Tiger!

Two more vessels float out of the dry dock, a British Frigate and a French Brig. More sailing ships from @warlordgames sent to me by Simon. #Napoleonic #navalwargaming #theFullNelson #wargaming

It's been a while since we had some CoC2 on the channel, so let's get back to basics with this Normandy encounter between US Paras and German Heer. Who will seize the road junction? #spreadthelard #chainofCommand #wargaming

French 1st Rate from Warlord Games

I finished this French 1st Rate ship earlier in the week from the collection my mate Simon sent over. It's a @warlordgames 1/700th scale kit and took to the seas on Thursday night in her first action against Dex.

As is the way with all brand new wargaming units she was utterly battered by the enemy and struck her colours, along the way her captain was decapitated by a ball. A glorious start to her career at sea.

More playtesting The Full Nelson tonight

L'Gras sailed out of port for the first time in years accompanied by two third rates. Running into the Royal Navy, L'Gras was pounded from all sides until she struck. More cannon fire ended in a glorious victory for the Royal Navy. Rotting in port was probably a better choice for L'Gras...More playtesting of The Full Nelson. #spreadthelard #navalwargaming #wargaming

Square Bashing: The Battle of Bourlon Wood 1917

Square Bashing yesterday with Dean. The Battle of Bourlon Wood, November 1917. British forces attack German held positions in the high ground of Bourlon village, Bourlon Wood and Fontaine village. A steady advance on the objectives under the cover of accurate artillery fire left the Germans on the back foot and surrendering their lines. Cut telephone wires impeded the German artillery response as the British tanks pushed into the woods. #wargaming #ww1 #peterpig #tanks #worldwarone

Lasalle 2 game tonight

A game of Lasalle 2 tonight to introduce Dex to the game. his spirited French assault on my British lines failed to gain any headway despite repeated column attacks. a great fast play game that comes to a conclusion in a couple of hours. #napoleonicwargaming #wargaming #napoleonic

Having had a bit of a painting drought recently, I've got back in the saddle and finished off this French 3rd Rate ship that has been sat in the drydock (painting desk) for almost a month. Another fine model from @warlordgames. #navalwargaming #wargaming #portlandbill #warlordgames #heaveto

Just completed these from @battlefrontminiatures, from their Panzerjager 1 platoon box. I made two Bison, two Panzerjager 1 and two sIG 33 guns with the addition of some extra crew. A very versatile box set with lots of options. #wargaming #15mm #ww2 #bigguns

A British 1st Rate leaves the boatyard. It's nice to add a big bit of oak to the fleet, so there's also a picture of the Royal Navy as they stand. #spreadthelard #thefullnelson #wargaming

I've not painted anything in ages, but I did manage to finish off these scenery pieces from @warlordgames for their Black Seas ranges. A shore fort, shore batteries, lighthouse and a few outcrops. Something for ships to avoid. #wargaming #navalwargaming

Real Time Wargaming with Little Wars TV

Last week I was in France and Belgium with the Little War TV guys conducting a tour of some First World War battlefields and Waterloo. After Waterloo we got a chance to play a game of Real Time Wargaming hosted by the writer, Claus. It was a really interesting experience, the rules are based on timers allowing commanders to act and command those units around them, but there's quite a lot of nuance as well. It's an interesting concept and one I'd like to return to at some point.

The Full Nelson, Playtest

Clear for action as we have a playtest of The Full Nelson, the forthcoming TFL Naval game. Two Third Rates go at one another to give you a good idea of the basic game mechanics and how it all works. Obviously this is still a WIP, so things may change. #wargaming #spreadthelard

Chain of Command tonight, France 1940, the German attack turns into a cake and arse party with the French shooting holes in them. the French destroy the bridges and conduct an orderly withdrawal. A meeting without coffee for Steve and I. Good defence by Dex and Jonathan. #spreadthelard #wargaming
