Real Time Wargaming with Little Wars TV

Last week I was in France and Belgium with the Little War TV guys conducting a tour of some First World War battlefields and Waterloo. After Waterloo we got a chance to play a game of Real Time Wargaming hosted by the writer, Claus. It was a really interesting experience, the rules are based on timers allowing commanders to act and command those units around them, but there's quite a lot of nuance as well. It's an interesting concept and one I'd like to return to at some point.

The Full Nelson, Playtest

Clear for action as we have a playtest of The Full Nelson, the forthcoming TFL Naval game. Two Third Rates go at one another to give you a good idea of the basic game mechanics and how it all works. Obviously this is still a WIP, so things may change. #wargaming #spreadthelard

Chain of Command tonight, France 1940, the German attack turns into a cake and arse party with the French shooting holes in them. the French destroy the bridges and conduct an orderly withdrawal. A meeting without coffee for Steve and I. Good defence by Dex and Jonathan. #spreadthelard #wargaming

I Ain't Been Shot, Mum Western Desert,1940

The Battle of Nibeiwa December 1940. British and Commonwealth troops attack an Italian held line with support from the 7th RTR. The Italian trenches held initially, but were slowly overrun and the tanks proved themselves in the breakout. Another excellent game of I Ain't Been Shot, Mum from Dean, with support from Dex. #spreadthelard #ww2 #wargaming

For Waterloo day we played a game of Sharp Practice, where the British Guards attempted to get supplies through to Hougomont. Blocked by French infantry and skirmishers, even the arrival of a contingent of Nassau soldiers couldn't help! #wargaming #spreadthelard

Chain of Command in Burma

In tonight's game of Chain of Command, the Kings African Rifles attack a Japanese held bridge behind enemy lines defended by a green platoon. Despite a good start, the KAR are halted at the river by Japanese rifle fire, a close assault and finally mortars. A tough ask against mounting numbers of defenders. #wargaming #spreadthelard #chainofcommand2

Over the weekend, I also finished two bases of 95th rifles, which in turn finished off the II and III battalions of them that were present during the 100 Days Campaign. #wargaming #waterloo #epicscale

French third rate 1/700th scale ship from Warlord games. I went a bit further with the rigging on this one and I prefer it to the previous ships. #wargaming

The Full Nelson Playtest last night at the Outpost with Dex and Matt. Two games, first was a win for the Royal Navy, with an honourable victory for the French in the second but it was more about stress testing the rules. #spreadthelard #wargaming
