The Caliente Family, ca. 1960

The Calientes, ca. 1960. The Calientes are consists of of Tango Caliente (48), a former New Sim City Llamas player who has since retired and works as a coach for a small local baseball team; his younger brother Flamenco Caliente (34), a professional cook; Flamenco's wife, Nighat Caliente (née Al Mahmoud, 32), a Pakistani-American woman who works with the Pakistan Consulate on matters concerning Pakistan-America relations; and their three-year-old twin daughters, Dina and Nina Caliente, born October 15, 1957.

The brothers originally came from the Southwest. Their father, Nestor Caliente, became a widower after his wife, Dulcinea, died during childbirth. Tango was raised largely by Nestor, while Flamenco was later born under highly unusual circumstances following Nestor's abduction by extraterrestrials. Nestor's death several years later left Tango responsible for raising his much younger brother.

Growing up in the Southwest, Tango developed a passion for baseball. Determined to make something of himself, he eventually left the Southwest for the East Coast with Flamenco. His path to professional baseball was far from straightforward, involving years of competition, setbacks, and perseverance before he finally earned his opportunity with the New Sim City Llamas. Tango eventually became a prominent Llamas player before retiring from professional baseball.

Tango moved to Pleasantview in 1952, beginning a second career as a local baseball coach.

Flamenco, meanwhile, developed a natural talent for cooking and eventually found work in restaurants and diners. In 1955, while working at a diner, he met Nighat Al Mahmoud, a Pakistani woman whose family had established connections with the United States during the early postwar period. Nighat eventually found work associated with the Pakistani Consulate, where her knowledge of South Asian and international affairs brought her into contact with matters concerning early years of Pakistan relation to America.

The two fell in love and married in 1956.

Nighat's family background is rooted in Pakistan. Her parents, Tariq and Benazir Al Mahmoud, belonged to the small but growing generation of Pakistanis establishing themselves abroad following the creation of Pakistan in 1947. Her move to America was therefore not part of a mass migration—Pakistani immigration remained quite limited before the 1965 immigration reforms—but rather the sort of unusual individual migration story that could occur through education, professional connections, family ties, or international work.

Their twin daughters, Dina and Nina, were born on October 15, 1957.

After learning that Flamenco had married and started a family, Tango invited his younger brother, Nighat, and the twins to move into his Pleasantview home. Having lived alone for several years, Tango was happy to have his family around again. For Flamenco and Nighat, the arrangement also meant they could avoid paying rent while establishing themselves in Pleasantview.

By 1960, the Calientes therefore form an unusual but tightly connected household: a retired Llamas player turned local coach, his younger brother the cook, a Pakistani-American woman working in international affairs, and two young daughters growing up in Pleasantview.

The Lothario Family, ca. 1960

The Lotharios, ca. 1960. After the war, Nicolo returned to Broker and used the Bill to pursue education - earning him his M.D. in 1950. He then got accepted and worked at Broker Hospital a year later, where he met a young nurse named Adriana. They decided to marry in 1952, and had Don on June 3^(rd), 1953. Due to the increasingly inhospitable conditions in the neighborhood, Nicolo and his family decided to move from Broker to Pleasantview in 1958 and got a job in Pleasantview Community Hospital not long after, with Adriana being accepted there as well.

Nicolo Lothario (41, GP Doctor)

Adriana Lothario (nee Fiorello, 41, Nurse)

The Goth Family, ca. 1960

The Goths, ca. 1960. They are consists of a couple - Mortimer Goth (35, Young Professor at an affluent university in Downtown New Sim City), and Bella Goth (nee Bachelor, 34, English Teacher at Pleasantview High). They only have a daughter named Cassandra Goth (5). They are also joined by Mortimer's elderly parents - Gunther Goth (64, Mayor of Pleasantview), and Cornelia Goth (nee Crumplebottom, 63). The reason why Gunther and Cornelia live with their son is the fact that the old address at 130 Wright Way was under renovation due to fire, and it includes surveying the valuable things that were lost to the fire as well. In addition, Gunther brought along with him his twin Ragdoll cats, Menelaus (2, male, the one Bella played with in one of the pictures) and Hecuba (2, female).

The Pleasant Family, ca. 1960

The Pleasants, ca. 1960. After various postings overseas, Jeff has returned to Pleasantview, again. Though, this time, he's contemplating on whether he wants to continue on his service or retire, open a furniture shop, and (somehow) become the first man to land on Mars. Daniel, meanwhile, has been seriously on a roll between trying out for his school's football team and following on his father's footsteps by joining the Army someday. And little Jennifer's just tagging along for whatever the future holds in store for her.

Part of my 1960 Pleasantview recreation for The Sims 2, where the town's classic families are reimagined with expanded histories and period-accurate settings.

The Burb Family, ca. 1960

They are consists of Banker-turned-farmer Bradley "Brad" Burb (38), his wife Theresa (nee Marsh, 36, stunt double), and their only child - John "Johnny" Burb (8). Returning from military service to New Sim City in 1945, Brad then finished his education and became one of the many New Sim City's bankers in 1949. He then met Theresa in 1950 during one fateful event at a hospital, when he wanted to have a checkup and he bumped into the young Theresa who's on a care for the last stunt that broke her leg. Romance bloomed, and they are then married in 1951 and had John in April 17^(th), 1952. They then moved to Pleasantview in 1954. The reason? It was all because of the fact that Brad was bored of his life and the 9-to-5. Also, he wanted to relive his childhood memory. Therefore, they moved upstate. Though, not without Theresa being bitter at first. However, she has gradually made peace with the decision over the years. Yes, they have a 2 year old Retriever named Tucker, whom Johnny called him as the best dog ever in the world.

The Broke Family, ca. 1960 (In my headcanon, the events of Sims 2 happened in 1985)

Just what I had in mind about em back then. Old man Flat, his wife Flo, their daughter Ruby, and their son Skip. Oh, this year's also the time when Ruby dated a Southern transplant named Ulysses T. Hatfield - charming man, I'd say.
