does anybody have any experience with career advisors?

idk how realistic it is to land any job relevant to your degree immediately after grad, and the doomerism on job reddit scares the hell out of me. is anybody who is graduating this year anxious about post grad job apps? my plan even before starting uni has always been to work for 1-2 years (in my field) post undergrad before grad school, but who knows if that’s even feasible and i have to be a homebody the whole time before i start my masters?? it’s SO scary idk how everyone’s so chill

what if i don’t want a return offer or even work in the same industry post internship

i worked so hard, cried endlessly, and was so thrilled to have finally gotten an internship over the summer. i’m so incredibly fortunate to be able to do quality control/assurance stuff as a biochem undergrad, but i genuinely do not really like what i’m doing. it’s still relevant to my degree and i do think it’ll help me in the long run as it’s experience at the end of the day, but i feel like so many interns worry a lot about “return offers” and everyday i feel like i just took this opportunity from someone who would’ve truly cherished it. idk

BC fixed-term lease - i tried everything to find a replacement but no luck

i signed a fixed-term lease from sept 1 2025 to aug 31 2026 because i fully expected to be living in BC (for university) for the entire year.

however, in late april, i unexpectedly received an internship offer in another city/province. at that point, i had already signed that other lease, moved, and have been trying to find someone to take over the remainder of my uni apartment's lease (poor judgement on my part i know).

since then, i've asked around and posted on facebook, kijiji etc, and i've been actively looking for someone to take over. i've had several people express interest, but they either stop responding or back out at the last minute. it's now the end of june, and i still haven't found anyone.

in the meantime, i'm paying rent for the apartment i actually live in for my internship + the apartment i'm no longer living in. i'm wondering what my options are at this point. can i ask my landlord to end the lease early or work out some other arrangement (extending the deadline to pay rent or something)? has anyone been in a similar situation??

any advice would be appreciated!!

volunteer opportunities as someone who doesn’t attend the uofa

i’m in edmonton for the whole summer for an internship but is it possible to volunteer at research labs? i’m a biochem major, and i remember a while ago when i was seriously emailing profs at the uofa for research volunteer positions i actually got some profs asking to talk but nothing ever came out of it. but now that im in edmonton anyways i wanted to try again but dont know if its too late or if they even take in volunteers right now esp if they dont attend the school. ive already volunteered at two research labs at my uni mainly doing wet lab work, but since im a QA intern (even tho its relevant to my degree) it still feels administrative rather than hands on/technical, which is why im kinda asking in the first place. i’m honestly okay with it being impossible/or if this is a dumb question im just curious

am i getting fired

the place i intern at submitted a wage subsidy application for the summer. i need to submit a proof of enrolment, and the "institution" needs to sign a "Confirmation of Work Integrated Learning" form on my behalf. i emailed enrolment services, and they said they can't do anything since im not registered in any courses yet for the 2026-27 year. idk how else to prove im a returning student. what can i do? can i talk to a career/academic advisor ??
