"why nursing?"

Hello, I am currently preparing for an interview to get a place to study General Nursing in September. (in Ireland, asking here because everyone is so friendly here and there's no subreddit closer to me that I know of)

I feel fairly confident for said interview except for if they ask me why I want to pursue this career 😅 I mean, I know my why, but I fear it's not "enough".

I eventually want to be a midwife, but there is no direct route near and i can't travel (kids), but I don't mind doing this loooong route as I am interested in general nursing too...

So, I'm curious, how would you answer, "why nursing?"

My why (not formatted, just word soup) : I am in my element in a learning environment. I want to give people a positive experience and make them feel supported during their vulnerable moments. I want to help people feel empowered. I want to advocate for people who can't do so for themselves. I like to problem solve and i like to be observant.

Edit to add: I've always been like the above, but I really wanted to start pursuing this after the birth of my daughter. Literally hours after the birth this itch started. I just want to support people. But this why I fear it's not enough I guess.

Court newbie here!

Hi everyone, this Lindsay Clancy trial is my first time watching an actual court case unfold and I have a few (maybe silly) questions.

  1. Is the judge just meant to blindly trust the jury isn't on tiktok watching all the theories out there? 🫠 Or that they're not here on reddit reading opinions that might sway them?

  2. All the breaks. Is that normal in a trial day? I mean, coming back from lunch for 30 mins and then ending for the day. And all the sidebahhhhs

  3. The prosecution... Do you see a strategy from them? I'm not able to see what they're trying to spell out at all, if anything their case makes me believe LC's case more...?

About to start 1st year and having cold feet

Hi everyone. I'll be starting first year soon as a mature student and up until now I was so excited. Maybe it's nerves but ugh I'm thinking how on earth can I do this, how can i put my family through it (me studying etc.)

Has anyone else felt this before starting? I know I want it and I have my goal but now I'm questioning everything 🫣

Has anyone gone down the tertiary degree route?

I just applied to one! I'm a mature student with no leaving cert and wondering what the process is like? What would the interviews be like?

How long were you taking puppy out before they finally "got it"

Every time I take my 11 week old out she just lies down and chills 🥲 then we go back in and set a timer and go back out again. It usually takes around 2 hours of the this before she actually pees... And forget about pooping, she did one today outside and we threw a party for her but again, it took basically ALL DAY of in and out. I read they're likely to poop 20 minutes after food? Her poop today was 5 hours after her breakfast 😭

Edit to add context: we started with puppy pads but gave up because she was just pooping anywhere and i read that it's better to just keep taking them out but this is so unsustainable 🥲

Career Guidance for adults?

Remember in secondary school you'd have the career guidance teacher and they would help you with your CAO application and all that.

Does this exist for adults/mature students?

Feed to sleep?

Do ye still feed to sleep at bedtime?

In the process of night weaning and I was trying to stop feeding to sleep but it's pushing bedtime nearly 3-4 hours later as she gets so worked up about not having boob in bed she resets herself and is full of energy again somehow.

Ive tried feeding her in another room and then going to bed for cuddles and sleep but that's when the anger sets in. Any advice or experience with this?

Did you continue feeding to sleep?

Night weaning day 7

Nights 1-5 I was still feeding to sleep, so I decided to unlatch her the last two days before she drifts off but this pisses her off so much she almost gets a second wind and is up for another two hours then 🫠

I think I will try giving the bedtime feed in the living room tomorrow?

She's still waking up throughout the night but isn't crying!! Just whinges a bit and tosses and turns and needs a cuddle back to sleep. Progress? 🥲

Nightweaning, day 5

Started the nightweaning process with my 18month old 5 days ago.

She's been waking up almost hourly her whole life and I'm just done.

My approach right now is booby is closed from 11pm til 5am, and when she wakes during those hours I offer cuddles when she pritests, she's even accepted "holding booby"

Last night was terrible though, she's getting angrier during the wakes 😣

I still feed to sleep for bedtime and the nap, should I cut this out too? Is it confusing her and going to prolong this whole thing?

When did you start seeing progress?
