PS: You can use NotProton to directly play games on Rockstar Launcher too

Maybe it was already obvious but if you bought RDR2 or GTA on Rockstar launcher instead of Steam you can still use NotProton, simply add Launcher.exe as non steam game and set properties in Steam then just click play, feels almost like you're playing on windows with how easy it is

edit: also link to it https://github.com/NotProtonNot/NotProton

How to run Onboard Memory Manager on macOS

(posted this already yesterday on r/logitech but was told to directly post here instead so deleted the one from there and reposted here)

Bought the Pro X2 Superstrike and found out there's no OMM for mac despite macOS listed supported, anyway the mouse is great and didn't want to return it so I found a way to make the app work on mac, I shared a guide and the script on GitHub hopefully it saves someone, TLDR here:

  • Install CrossOver, make a fresh OMM bottle, and install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 in it.
  • Download Logitech’s Windows OMM. The .exe runs directly: add it to the bottle with Run Command → Browse, then save it as a launcher.
  • Quit CrossOver, review the GitHub script byte values in case they become outdated with a future CrossOver update, and runpython3 patch_crossover_omm.py apply. Reopen CrossOver and launch OMM with the mouse connected by cable or receiver (I recommend trying cable first it can be more reliable to detect the mouse).
  • Tested with a PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE, OMM 2.6.1749 (latest as of today), and CrossOver 26.3 on Apple Silicon.

(also I know G hub exists but if this post came in results you probably weren't looking for that)

Mafia Definitive Edition runs well in Crossover

Used a bit potato graphics to try and hit 60 fps on the Air but still looks pretty good, lowkey underrated game if you never played it

Is there any app that can limit the fan RPM on a MacBook Pro 14 M5 Pro ?

I have been searching for this with no results, during intensive tasks that use the full GPU like 3D rendering or gaming the fans automatically spin up to 4500-5000 RPM to maintain full performance which is pretty loud, however manually setting fans to around 3200 RPM makes them virtually silent and I only lose about 20% or so performance which is still plenty fast my work, and it's much easier to work when the Mac is dead silent and not distracting with noise for the minor performance hit.

The issue is that both TG Pro and Macs Fan Control can either only set a permanent RPM which means I have just been manually toggling it on to cap the RPM when doing something intensive then turn it off again afterwards or create a fully custom fan curve based on sensors which does not really work well because the sensors don't get hot enough, after the initial spike sensor temps drop down to only 60-70c, So essentially just a way to cap the maximum RPM fans are allowed to go up to instead of me having to set a fixed RPM.

Is there any point paying 500$ more for the Studio Display XDR with stand instead of VESA?

I prefer using a stand instead og VESA but I don't know if I can justify paying that much for one, it doesn't improve the monitor in any way. I could pick up a decent aluminium one for 100$ that probably looks exactly the same so it just seems expensive for no reason

Asus pg32ucdmr is built like crap

This is supposedly one of the higher end consumer monitors you can get, the panel itself is great and the picture looks crystal clear and i have no complaints about that but holy shit everything else is bottom of the barrel quality.
It’s almost entirely plastic except for parts of the stand which is already not great for a monitor that cost 1600$ new in my country, but on top of that it is the most cheap creaky thin and flimsy plastic you have ever seen, push or pull anywhere and it sounds like a broken door hinge. Again it’s literally a very expensive monitor so i don’t understand what level of greed Asus is on that they used such low quality materials that probably cost pennies to manufacture in china and is sold back for 1000x profit. But they had to prioritize useless RGB on the back of the monitor that you can’t even see and under the stand to make stupid gamers think it’s actually a premium monitor…
Also great design with a third freaking useless light namely the massive chin logo that lights up and is permanently on when the monitor is asleep so it keeps you awake at night unless you put electric tape over your 1600$ monitor or manually turn it off after every time you use it.
But it’s not an Asus product unless it costs a few thousand dollars and still creaks somewhere (cough g14 2025 paid 3600$ and lid hinge also sounds like a broken door, but just pay 4200$ and upgrade to 2026 model to get our hinge 2.0 technology :)
