Self drafting help?

Hi! I’ve seen some dresses like this and want to try and self draft a pattern.
My question: do the shapes of my pattern pieces make sense?
This will be not shaped, loose, not clingy. Just a oversized everyday wear comfy dress.
I do not have the measurements planned and my first draft pattern piece sketches are NOT to scale. Just rough draft general shapes.
Also the waist in photo #1 WILL be longer, like how I have it drawn in the pattern pieces picture. I just didn’t draw it as long in the style picture.
Cuff will be longer, sleeves will no doubt be wider, skirt will be much wider and longer than the bodice

Oak + Iron Dyed Dress

Hi! I wanted to share this dye project.
I dyed cotton with oak, modified it with iron, and sewed it into a dress!

I used about 200% WOF oak leaves (fresh). I have no idea how much iron, I needed a lot for the amount of fabric I had.

The pattern is Sydney Grahams Skyline Dress pattern. It’s such a cute one. I’m so proud of how dark I was able to get this! :)

Lightfast and Iron Results!!!

The lightfast and iron results for my peach tree dyes are complete. Each left swatch was left in 8 hours of sunlight for 4 weeks. The right swatches are those lightfast results. I made a short YouTube video explaining the results and discussing it a bit further. Pleased with the results, I know quite a few wanted to know.

Peach Tree Dye

Hi all

I just finished a YouTube video on my Peach Tree Dye experiments where I show how I used peach leaves and wood to naturally dye cotton and wool.

It was a really long process (lots of trial and error and some surprising colors), and I thought people here who enjoy natural dyeing or fiber arts might appreciate seeing how it turned out.

I’m just now realizing that the olive green yarn I didn’t even add 🤦🏻‍♀️ it was the same dye processes as the lime green yarn, which shows that different dye lots can give me much different results! The blue ish green cotton shows up so cool toned on almost all my footage and I wasn’t able to edit it to show the true color. It’s more of a muted line green!

Double Gauze Cotton Sellers?

I’ve been getting fabric from Dharma Trading Co but I’ve been looking for double gauze. They don’t seem to have any on their website. Any suggestions for where to purchase this? Reputable online sellers?
Thanks :)

“Matching” Dress Update

They aren’t perfect matches but they’re close enough!
For my dress I combined Sydney Grahams Skyline Dress pattern with an old pattern my mom had from the 90’s to make the top more billowy and triangular. I just guessed at the length and width of the tiers.
I was hoping for it to be more of a flared out skirt like the way it sits for my daughters dress, this one hugs my legs a bit which is why I shortened the bottom tier to help it flare out a bit more.
Could this be helped if I had done shorter tiers? Or is it just the nature of the material more? My husband says it does flare out but I want more of a princess flare than a tiny bit.
This is a great comfy around the house dress and also so easy to throw on to go out so I’m still happy with it.
I wish I could share a photo of us together in them, she’s PRECIOUS in her dress.

Dress for my baby!

(Repost)
I sewed this dress for my daughter!
I used the size of a dress she already owns for pattern reference, and honestly I guessed with the length and width of the tiers.
The straps are fed through a channel along the top of the bodice on both the front and back, ties at the shoulders, so it will hopefully be able to grow with her (as long as she grows taller rather than wider because width wise I didn’t make it as big as I’d hoped, maybe I can alter in the future I do have an ouch tiny scraps)
This is my 3rd official sewn garment, please be kind, I know I need work!
The pattern between tiers is off, I am making myself a matching dress, it was gifted fabric, I don’t think I could get or find any more so I worked with what I had!
I am struggling with finishing raw edges with my machine, I feel like they look like crap. (But also I think it’s charming and homey?? Idk)
Zig zag stitch often, like… bunches up the fabric like an accordion? Is this normal?
Anyways, proud mom moment to make my daughter something to wear that isn’t just a knit sweater!

Oak Leaf Dye

I know it’s common knowledge that oak dyes this way but just wanted to share my dye tests experimenting with spring oak leaves. I’ve dyed with autumn oak leaves and ecoprinted a ton, I honestly see no difference is early or late season oak!
