I used to think Polish food was mid at best…

…until I dug a bit further.

Every online guide would say the same thing: “Try Pierogi, Schabowy, Rosół and Gołąbki.”

This was honestly super misleading as all of these are fine but not even close to a unique Polish flavour. They all had some variants in other countries, and for the most part, were fairly unseasoned.

What actually changed my mind on Polish food was when I went a bit deeper.

Żurek - Phenomenal
Szczawiowa - Incredible
Chłodnik (not the Lithuanian one, but the one on „zsiadłe mleko”) - Sublime

Gzik - Wow
Pajda ze smalcem - in love

F’n Oscypek is the best cheese I’ve ever eaten.

Sorry Poland, I was mistaken.

Where to buy foods past their expiry date

I’m looking for a place where I can buy cinnamon past it’s expiry date. I need it to curb my ant infestation. 25kg will do, but I don’t want to pay 15+ zł/kg

Why do most Polish people not like deciduous trees?

A caveat I would like to clear off the bat - I am not generalising. I am not saying a statistically significant number of Poles think this way in any objective manner. I am basing my assumption purely on Poles I have spoken to, and my subjective interpretation of cultural differences.

I have come across many Poles who would rather have a tree-less, arid plot of land, than to have trees on it. I’ve noticed this when people moved into my area and started to clear entire forests (not just the ones that are required to build, and have a decently large lawn with ample sunlight). I understand having sunlight, but specifically moving to a forested area and cutting ALL trees, just to plant Thuja shrubs.

It’s mainly older generations I’ve encountered this with. My question is, why is this? Is there a cultural reason behind this? If they want to live on a field instead of a forest, why don’t they buy a plot of land on a field?

I love Polish people, this is just a genuine culture shock question.

Google Maps degradation?

I’ve noticed satellite imagery on Google Maps (both webpage and mobile app) have significantly degraded specifically in Warsaw. Does anyone know the reason behind this? I know that certain military areas are blurred out for security reasons, but this concerns almost any area of Warsaw now.
Blurred coverage is larger, and overall maps are much lower in resolution.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to break out of my comfort zone and meet new friends in Warsaw, especially people interested in traveling together or just hanging out locally.
I’m Canadian and have been living in Poland for a few years now (I speak fluent Polish). I’m not really looking for recommendations like “joining a local community”, I don’t have trouble meeting people offline, but I figured Reddit might be a good way to connect with like-minded people and other “expats”. I meet most of my friends through work, but most of my lifelong friends were left behind in Canada.
Hoping to connect with people who share similar interests:
Cars, and anything technology, business etc
Sports (running, gym, cycling, etc.)
Traveling, outdoorsy stuff; whether as couples or groups of friends
Anything new. I’m super open minded
Not looking for anything romantic. I’m 32 (M) and getting married soon. Ideally looking to meet other dudes around 26–37, but open to anyone with a similar vibe.
If this sounds like you, hmu
