Oil spitting out of dipstick tube and breather valve hose

Hi everyone,

I have a 1985 Mitsubishi Pajero I bought a couple of months ago. It has a 4D56 Turbo engine. Now, I've been having the basic issues one has with older cars, and so I took it to two different mechanics. Both have said that I needed an engine overhaul. Their reasoning was that there is blow-by and this is evidenced by the fact that smoke and oil spits out of the dipstick tube and the breather valve. I asked the second mechanic who told me this whether he could conduct a compression test, and he said he didn't need to because he knows the compression is low.

So I bought a compression testing kit, and found that i had pretty solid results with a dry test. Cylinders 1, 2, and 4 all had compression of 420-430Psi, with Cylinder 3 having about 390Psi... While there is a bit of a difference between 3 and the others, the number is still high enough for it to be a good reading. This made me stop thinking of the issue as strictly blow by caused by either worn pistons/piston rings/cylinders. But there does seem to be some pressure from the crankcase. I suspect it could be the turbo, or maybe the rocker/valve cover needs changing?

Replacing rear shock absorbers for a 1985 Mitsubishi Pajero SWB (2.4L Diesel Engine)

I've recently bought a 1985 Mitsubishi Pajero SWB with the 2.4L diesel engine. It's a bit of a fixer-upper, and I'm gradually bringing it back to good condition.I want to start with the suspension, and replacing the rear shock absorbers seems like a good first project. According to the service manual, it originally came with hydraulic, double-acting shock absorbers. I'm considering replacing them with gas-charged hydraulic shocks instead, if they're compatible. This is supposed to be a daily driver that I can take for some off-roading as well.
Should I stick to trying to find the original type of shock absorbers, or should I go for the gas-charged hydraulic shocks? I understand that the gas charged ones are an upgrade, but would it be a problem for an older model car?

Service Manual for 1985 Turbo Wagon with the 4D55 2.3 turbo diesel engine and 5-speed manual transmission

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a service manual for my Pajero. It's a 4D55 2.3 Turbo Diesel Engine, manual transmission.
I found one service manual online that was recommended known as the Gregory's Mitsubishi Pajero NA - NG Series 1983 - 1991 Workshop Manual. It's selling on e-Bay. Thought someone here would have a good idea as to whether it is worth it. Or if they know where else i can get a relevant service manual from.

Thanks
