Help

Couldn’t get ball joint off for upper control arm, so I cut it with a rotary tool. Still can’t get the stud loose. It almost seems like it’s welded on the knuckle boss or something

Separating control arm from ball joint

I’m working on a 2015 Dodge Journey, trying to replace the control arms and have been stuck on trying to separate this control arm from the ball joint. I’ve beat the hell out of it with a hammer, heated it, hit it with half a bottle of wd-40 can’t get it to budge. Can’t buy anymore tools. Any suggestions?

Clutch Replacement: DIY vs Mechanic?

Context: 2016 WRX Premium with ~69.5K miles clutch slipping

Parts Ordered:

  • ACT HD Street clutch kit
  • Versus Forged Clutch Fork
  • Torque Solution billet clutch fork pivot
  • Perrin Braided Stainless Clutch Line
  • COBB Shifter Bushing
  • OEM flywheel bolts and clutch bolts
  • OEM Rear Main Seal
  • Trans Axle Seals
  • Trans Output oil seal
  • Rear Diff Seals

So for the clutch change I am being quoted by my local mechanic roughly $1000-$1200 for labor (very reasonable in my opinion). I wanted to ask how difficult it actually is to do the work myself? While videos have made it seem like and intermediate to advanced, I wanted to hear some more input from the sub. More then willing to get a trans jack from harbor freight and other tools that might be needed.

I've never worked on a transmission before myself and don't have any friends that are knowledgeable to help (well friends in general but that is a separate issue lol)

How do you remove these bolts?

How do you remove these bolts? Impact drill and air gun just strip them.

Polaris Magnum 330

edit: previous owner jb welded them on, just to be a dick apparently. Everyone here is being such an asshole and acting like I have no idea what I'm doing. I've got the right size shit, I just didn't know they were jb welded in there.

Any tips, please I know its moving somewhat, as I have moved it maybe 5mm in total but now its just stuck, and I need something, anything new is appreciated.

Fixed my rear suspension WITH A WELDER

Last time I posted my rear suspension and got absolutely roasted by the fact that I was doing bodywork on my rear fenders when my spring perches were literally dying. The amount of people telling me I drive a shitbox and that it isn’t road worthy has pushed me to learn how to weld to keep my beloved car alive.

So I cut out the rust, grinded out the whole surrounding before installing a new plate, then sealing everything back up with seam sealer, self etching primer then gravel guard undercoating. (And fluid film inside the enclosed space)

It now feels very solid, Looks not half bad and should last a few years more. I have repaired both sides which were both damaged in similar areas.

I guess thanks to all the hate on my last post pushing me to repair it the right way… many more rust to fix tho but at least the suspension is all solid now

(Ps I know my weld look like shit but its my first time, they are solid + they say a grinder and some paint makes me the welder I ain’t)

Repair a scratch on a 2023 Corolla

Back in the day you could buff out scratches with rubbing and/or polishing compound. What is the current day method to repair a scratch? Part appears to only have scratched the clear coat, but part also scratched the paint.

Rear Subframe Replacement.

Noticed the rear subframe was just absolutely shot. Picked one up at a junk yard from a same model year Grand Cherokee. Took 2 days to get it out and the new one in. If you are planning on doing this its a bit of a fight.

My mechanic friend pointed out a weird noise in my car and told me I needed to get it checked out. Repairs

Hi, we are having a friend replace our struts and brakes. I am debating paying him $600. We have the parts already. Would this be a fair price? This is for a 2018 Kia Sportage.

How to secure bumper/truck until it can get repaired or totaled

Got into an accident. Car still driving fine. Not able to get a rental quite yet due to commercial insurance provider being slow. How can I stabilize this so it isn’t flapping in the wind until I can get it either repaired or totaled? This is a 2010 Toyota Corolla, automatic, about 120k miles.

How to change freeze plugs behind engine mounts

Hi brains trust,

Is it possible to change the freeze plugs behind engine mounts on a 65 Mustang with a 289, without pulling the engine?

Can I get away with supporting the engine and removing the mounts temporarily? How hard is it to remove the mounts?

Thanks in advance!
