Innova RepairSolution2 app vehicle limit?

Hi all, I have a Innova scanner and really like it. It does bluetooth to my cell phone, and the RepairSolution2 app is somewhat useful/nice. I'm curious though. Is there any sort of limit to the number of vehicles that can be added in the app? If yes, can I delete vehicles and add different vehicles? I'm asking because I have a fair few vehicles in my driveway, but perhaps I would do a scan for a friend or two or three someday. Plus when buying a used vehicle, it's useful to scan and read its codes. Don't need the app for that, but the app does provide supplementary info which could be helpful.

Thanks all!

What vehicles would be close to an 'almost forever' car ?

I say car but it could be a truck, SUV, etc, and feel free to post URLs if this has been beat to death before. :-)

Every now and then you see or hear of a vehicle with 500,000 on it. That got me thinking. Are there any particular vehicles that are darn reliable, never seem to break, and when the CEL (check engine light) comes on or something else goes awry, they are easy to troubleshoot, work on, get parts, etc. If there was one single vehicle that takes the top spot what is it (i.e. make, model, vintage, etc)?

Keeping modern safety in mind, are there newer vehicles that could be an "almost forever" car? Assuming no issues with rust, what about a 2018 Honda Civic as an example? Toyoto? Mazda? Hyundai? Ford?

Thanks!

2000 2.2L Sonoma - Code P0200 - ECU/PCM, swap or MOSFET replacement?

Hello all,

So I got a 2000 2.2L Sonoma with code P0200, and cylinder #4 fuel injector flooding the cylinder. Troubleshooting and process of elimination has narrowed it down to the injector driver inside the ECU/PCM being always 'on', meaning there is always a 'circuit to ground', thus the injector is always spraying fuel. This seems to be a known issue with this vintage of vehicle, even if not common. I'll use "ECU" below but mean ECU/PCM since I understand the one hardware module is essentially both. It seems I have two options.

#1 - Replace the ECU.

#2 - Open up the existing ECU and replace the injector driver.

Hoping you folks can provide comments for both.

For option #1 it seems I need to find a new or used ECU, have its VIN reprogrammed. However I understand it doesn't end there, and that you need to initiate some sort of modules resyncing, meaning the ECU and other modules need to be resynced, or rekeyed, or something.

So my first set of questions for #1 are like this: what do I need to do, and what equipment do I need to do it? Also, is there a company in Canada or USA that does at least some of this, and helps make the whole process much easier? If yes please provide info.

For option #2 I am unable to find info that easily identifies which component on the ECU circuit board contains the injector driver. My quick math tells me the current through an injector is in the range of 1 amp, versus say low milliamps, so that suggests to me the component providing the injector driver circuitry is a larger external package MOSFET (typically has a metal side for heat sinking), versus an Integrated Circuit (IC) type chip. But I really don't know. I'm trying to follow the printed circuit board (PCB) traces, from pins #75 & #76, but with all the stuff on the PCB, and itty bitty traces, I haven't been successful so far. I am assuming it will be a component that I can desolder, remove, replace, and resolder, but that is yet to be seen.

So my first set of questions for #2 are like this: has any of you done this before? What component contains the injector driver? Is it an IC, or is it a larger external package MOSFET? Anyone have any pictures? Is there a company that does this and I can simply mail them the ECU and they send it back?

With the various engine swaps going on, I am guessing #1 may actually be the easier way forward, even if it sort of have more steps, and more $$$ involved.

Please help. I should add this is a project truck that my son and I, and a dear uncle of his, are working on. It would be sweet to see that P0200 code clear and have a nice smooth running engine assuming no other issues with it of course haha!

I'd also like to understand what causes the injector driver circuit to get like this. It's MOSFET based I understand, so it's likely blown, thus now a short circuit. What can cause this to happen? I am wondering if I should replace the injectors for piece of mind. However, they all measure the same resistance, and the wiring harness measures fine too, i.e. no shorts. I'd like to be sure I have fixed any possible 'external' issues before replacing the whole ECU or a MOSFET.

Hoping the Sonoma community, and perhaps even the larger GM (Chevy/GMC) community can help. Thanks everyone!

Question - 2026 Yamaha Grizzly 700 EPS XTR fuel mileage

Hi all, looking for some guidance on the file mileage for the 2026 Yamaha Grizzly 700 EPS XTR fuel mileage. I already have an older Kodiac ATV and I can easily get 75 miles on a tank, with still less than a 1/4 tank remaining.

A dealer sales guy told me that the 2026 XTR gets between 125 and 185 miles on a tank. I find that hard to believe, unless you are driving downgrade on a perfectly flat smooth road. I realize all the variables that affect fuel economy, so if I can get 75-85 miles on a older Kodiac 450, what should I expect from the 2026 XTR?

I'm not concerned about the fuel economy, I'm just trying to plan how many extra fuel tank I should add to this bike.

Special Bay Rum SOTD 20260725

It's a beautiful summer day, and the shave also equally enjoyable.

Today is a special day, going to a birthday party, and it's not clear to me that the birthday person will be 'of this Earth' next year. So made it a Bay Rum shave, but putting on the Geo F. Trumper Bay Rum perfume before I head out.

Why so little activity in 'eastern' Asia, and Oceania

Day after day I seldom see activity in eastern Asia and Oceania. The great tower of power (Europe) is almost always 'on', we see activity in parts of Africa, and North America & South Amercia have their moments of activity. But eastern Asia and Oceania, very little activity.

Why is that? Geo-political? Economics? Buying/shipping? Regulatory? Even Australia and New Zealand don't see to have that much at all, and I expected to see more from those two countries.

Or maybe I got it backwards. Maybe North America and Europe are way more active, for historical reasons. We always had radio, since it was invented. WW2, and even the Cold War, had an intensive use of radio. We have it in our automobiles and houses, it's a part of our culture. Could it be that?

Interested in hearing the reason(s).

EDIT #1 - After reading some comments I did want to acknowledge I do see a fair bit of activity in Japan. Keep the comments coming. Thank you.

Question - back pain - Yamaha Kodiak or Grizzly?

I'm older a fellow, developing degenerative back pain it seems. I am considering buying an ATV, and it will be a Yamaha, that part is decided. For moderate trail riding, maybe some rough stuff, which would provide the more easier and comfortable ride on the back?

Vacationing in 'the valley'.

Was planning on this trip being in Europe, but started thinking, Canada has so much to offer, and given the crap from south of the border, Canadian businesses can use every "buy Canadian" penny they can get.

So, trying to narrow down my list, and given the time spent in Halifax, the 'valley' seems to be the spot if Nova Scotia is chosen.

Seen the ocean enough already, so looking for other ideas, have an open mind. Including:

  • A nice romantic roof over our heads.
  • Finer dining in the evenings, very open minded, and seafood is fair game too.
  • Looking for something kind of unique to Nova Scotia, or the valley itself.
  • The Grand Pre dikes, are there guided tours on them?
  • Any blow your mind spa and massage places?
  • Might try a 'few' wine tasting places so need to figure how to get around. ;-)
  • Using the novascotia.com website, which is helpful, but a lot of stuff just seems like your typical 'scripted cookie cutter' tourist trap, that just doesn't raise my eyebrow.

Looking to spend 3-5 days/nights there so need to fill in the calendar!

You get the idea, what hidden amazing gems are there? If you recommend something, please take the time to explain your experience, why you recommend it.

Thanks!

Plumbing question - hiding an air admittance valve inside a wall

Have a newer home and am pretty sure the bathroom, at the opposite end of the house to where most of the other plumbing is, does not have the proper vent stack (return airflow) plumbing installed. When I flush the toilet it continues to suck water out of the bowl, as the 'flush load' travels down the pipe.

I'm pretty sure I can easily add an air admittance valve to the plumbing there, but did not want something sticking out of the wall. Can that be added and kept inside a wall, since all it does is 'suck air' and walls are not air tight, and this is an inside (load bearing) wall? Does Nova Scotia code book(s) have any specific code for the use of such valves?

How comfortable are the seats in the Old Town fishing kayaks?

The seat in my Pelican peddle drive kayak is a real back breaker. I'm not saying there is any connection or relationship, but ironically I am developing lower back pain. I could just replace the seat I supposed but I despise my Pelican kayak for many reasons so am in the market for a new kayak anyways. And my days of standing up in a kayak may be coming to an end.

So, yeah, how comfortable are the seats in the Old Town fishing kayaks? Any fellow anglers out there with lower back pain, love kayak fishing and have a Old Town fishing kayak?

And if it matters, I am currently eyeballing the Sportsman 106, and Sportsman 106 Minnkota, as my two main choices.

Thanks!

Yet another Citrus SOTD 20260708

A simple mid-week shave. Nothing fancy, except the Fendrihan Orange Lemon is a great soap. It's currently 80/100 out of my soap list. Great lather and slickness and great scent. Blades are Derby Premium.

Muggy melancholy - what to do?

Phewwww, it's hot. It's too hot outside for me and the 'pad' is not much better, so much so I have every electrical device turned off (since they all make heat) except the fridge and fans. Oh the boredom! Can only eat so many popsicles, and take cold showers.

Is there a really good place, where there is always shade and a breeze, but not 1000 people going to the same spot? I really don't want to go to a mall, or swimming pool, or the beach, or almost anything really. Too hot to nap, reading a book is not enough of a distraction, and I don't have all sort of apps on my phone, just one (Environment Canada Weather) reminding me how hot it is.

If I bought one of those radio scanners, is there much to listen? Do people have fun with the modern day walkie talkies in the city? Actually that could be kind of fun with all the high rises now, friendly chatting with fellow city dwellers..... yeah it's that kind of muggy melancholy. :-)

If you feel like me, what do you do to chase away the dog days of summer?

I appreciate and enjoy CBC Radio.

If there are any CBC employees, or Gov Canada decision makers for the CBC reading this, I just want to say that I appreciate and enjoy CBC Radio almost daily. I'll keep it simple and just say that I find it very informative, and useful.

Lime SOTD - 2026-07-04

Yeah I'm a hypocrite.

Last post I was talking about Bay Rum Summer returns, but this shave was indeed a citrus (lime) shave. Really enjoying the Proraso Lime. Need to try my Geo Trumper "West Indian Lime" cologne soon too.

The Captain's Choice soap is currently 40/100 ranking on my list of soaps. The Proraso Lime balm is simply lovely, and the cologne is also simply lovely to splash on later when hanging out with the wife.

Not a lime product, but I still continue to use Derby Premium blades as my default SOTD blade. Great bang for buck, great shave, it's that simple.

Alert fatigue

A few days ago we (the masses) received an emergency alert about a missing senior. Thankfully he was found, but way too many people were needlessly awoken, for a situation that they could do nothing about, or nor was it a danger to them (the masses).

Lots of people complaining about getting too many needless alerts. And today I am reading this article: https://www.cnn.com/2026/07/02/us/texas-investigators-uvalde-camp-mystic

"But in both cases, there was alert fatigue, he added: from the law enforcement action in Uvalde and its position near the Mexico border, and from the weather alerts affecting the Hill Country."

I am still reading the article. There is other stuff in the article, but the common theme being discussed is alert fatigue.

Thoughts?

Bay Rum Summer resumes!

I had planned to mostly use my citrus type soaps (Fendrihan Orange Lemon, Captains Choice Lime, and Tobs Eaton College) and also Proraso White to use with my Proraso Lime aftershave. However so far that has not happened, and once again I am lured into having a Bay Rum summer complete with heat, humidity, and dark rum beverages.

Note in one shave I realized after taking the pictures I grabbed the wrong bottle, Lime instead of Bay Rum, so I included a picture of my current Bay Rum aftershave collection. Another picture was a shave from last week. Need to buy more Bay Rum soaps now haha!

First time smoker buyer

First, for context: I do some smoking now. I have a Big Chief smoker and I enjoy it. But, as you know, it's a 'dehydrator' smoker, and not a cooking smoker.

I am attracted to the offset smokers, but with a small family and small 'needs' there is no way I am buying a million gallon offset haha. I understand smaller offsets are more unstable temperature wise, but I'm pretty sharp.

So, I am looking for key comments from you folks, regarding the realities that come with the various types of smokers. If there are previous great discussion threads on /smoking then please post the URL if you have it bookmarked.

Last comments: If there is an offset smoker, that has a pellet feeder attachment option, so some times I can use wood, and other times use pellets, that would be attractive. Both natural wood, and pellets, are plentiful around here. I will soon be semi-retired, and then in a few years fully retired, so God willing, I will have time to tend to 'low and slow'. I also want to do high temperature cooking, but we have a gas grill for that. I will likely smoke all sorts of meats, fish, vegetables.

Hi all, I don't drive my current newer model F150 much, so keep a smart charger on it. Currently I lift the hood, lay the charger on the radiator hose, connect it, close the hood, and remove it when I drive the truck again.

The charger is likely not rated for permanent mounting in the engine bay, so I'm exploring other mounting locations, some place that it's shielded from wind, rain, road 'spray', high heat, etc, yet am easily able to access and press buttons if I need. I'm not sure this is an achievable goal, unless I get it inside the cab somehow, and then it's a more complex wiring job.

I don't own those buttonless fully automatic detecting type chargers and have no intention of buying any since I already have button based smart charger.

Hoping for some helpful comments.

Hi all, I'm considering buying a brand new 2026 STX SuperCab. What should I know? Any major issues that seem to be creeping into the discussion forums?

Also, I understand Ford stopped making SuperCab, but it seems they are available for 2026 year. Is that true?

Can you get the STX with the supercharged 5.2L engine, or is it the Ecoboost engine(s) only available. I actually enjoy Ecoboost, but am a supercharger fan too. 😄
