(US) Where to find contracts / paid side work for DevOps 4+ YoE?
I'm a US DevOps engineer with a little over 4 years of experience and a CS degree. I have a full time job, but I'm looking for some side jobs / contracts related to DevOps that I can do after work and on the weekends. Is there anywhere I can find good side jobs like this as someone with my level of experience? Thanks
Does anyone know what these 3 buildings were (Market Square looking toward College Hill)
Found a picture of postcard of Market Square around 1900, but didn't recognize those three buildings in the background (I assume they were demolished). Anyone know what they were?
Horse stables where my grandma can feed a horse?
My grandma used to ride horses as a kid. Her memory's getting real bad, but seeing things that remind her of her childhood really help. Are there any horse stables (preferably near Bristol County) where the owner would let my grandma see a horse, pet it, and feed it a carrot? It would mean the world to us. Thanks!
Feature request: album sharing links?
I really want to switch over to Proton Drive, but the fact that you can't share albums using links is pretty ridiculous and makes sharing albums of pictures with my family/friends near impossible, which is most of what I'd be using Proton Drive for anyway. Will this feature be added any time soon?
Need advice: driving vs commuter train from New London to New Haven
I'm in New London. Next Thursday, I'll be taking an Acela train that leaves New Haven Union Station at 7:07 AM for DC.
I need advice as to how I should get from New London to New Haven Union Station. I have three options:
- Drive from my house in New London to New Haven Union, and deal with the uncertainty of traffic on I-95 and parking at the station (I'll also need to leave it there for 5 days, which could be a bit pricey).
- Take the commuter train (Shore Line East) from New London station to New Haven Union. The train would leave New London at 5:46 AM and get the New Haven Union by 6:51 AM, which would give me a pretty short window of 16 minutes to catch the Acela. I've never taken the commuter train, so I don't know if I should be worried about delays and if 16 minutes is enough time.
- Take an Uber. Cuts out the complexity of parking, but I'll need to spend $100 each way, so I'd like to avoid this option if possible.
What's the best option? Thanks!
Edit: Added Uber as an option, thank you u/Marneman1965
Tell your reps: Save the Maine Mountain Division Railroad!
Maine DOT is threatening to tear up the Mountain Division train tracks. They're pushing to make it trails-only, instead of tge preferable rails WITH adjacent trails. This is the only rail connection from the Downeaster to North Conway. If these tracks are removed, this will destroy any possibility of restoring passenger service to North Conway along the Downeaster Amtrak route.
The Conway Scenic Railroad and CSX have offered to rehab and reactivate these rails for interested freight customers and future seasonal passenger routes at no cost to the taxpayer. Keeping these rails with parallel trails is a no brainer for our community and our economy. Let's keep the trains and get countless trucks and tourists off Maine's roads! We can still do this while also building new trails running adjacent to the rails. There's enough space for both trails AND tracks!
None of this will be funded by taxpayer money. Construction and service for freight and excursion service is 100% privately funded.
It's election season, the one time our politicians kinda care. Take this chance to tell them: save the Mountain Division tracks! Don't let the DOT tear up the tracks. Build rail WITH trails, not one or the other! America's rail infrastructure is pathetic for a first world country, don't let them make it worse.
Bioluminescent waters in New England?
From June to September, the Puget Sound has some cool bioluminescent areas, like the one above, that glow when the water's disturbed. Is there anything like that around here? Thanks!
Must-do activities on Block Island?
Will be going to Block Island in a couple weeks. I've been writing a to do list, and I'd like to hear your suggestions for 'must-do' activities while my friends and I are on Block Island, or just waiting for the ferry in Point Judith. We enjoy nature, we're bringing bikes and are willing to bike up to 30 mins, and we'd love to try some great seafood. Ofc, we're down for whatever, not just the stuff I mentioned, so any suggestions are appreciated. Here's what I have so far:
* Lobster bisque or fish + chips @ Jimmy's Portside
* Seal watching @ North Beach
* Brunch @ the Spring House Hotel
* Visit the Mohegan Bluffs
* Bike Rodman's Hollow
Let me know if there's anything I missed. Thanks!
