Hiding you’re adopted from your children

Hi everyone, so in this case, my father was adopted and I know because my mom told me once (I don’t even remember how it got brought up) but she begged me not to tell my dad that I was aware. Since she herself found out by other people and not directly from my dad, even when my fraternal grandparents wanted ro tell her the story my mom refused out of respect for my dad and him choosing his time to tell her if he wanted.

The thing is that I think my dad never truly told my mom the whole story, and has never even acknowledged the story with us, his kids. But I would like to know, from other adoptees, why would you find shameful to share to your own kids that you’re adopted? Have you done this and what was your reasoning?

I’m asking because I’m trying to understand my dad and where he comes from, especially since I notice that sudden decline in my dad’s self esteem this past few years and I’ve noticed the pattern of whenever we would face difficulties he never felt “worthy” of asking for help from his family members.

Fotos de antes

Hola!

I don’t know where to start

Hi everyone,

I’m writing this because the hidden story of my family, which I only found out about in my 20s, is that my dad was adopted or basically has another biological mom but the dad is the same (my grandpa). It has caused apparently a feeling of shame for my dad growing up, to the extent of his dad’s family not considering him “100%” legitimate and to “caution” my mom about marrying him way before I was born ofc. In my country, I don’t know why it’s such a stupid taboo adoption and also open adoptions, its always preferred to have closed ones or lie about it. But all I’m saying is, I’d love to know more about this, but my dad has never told me this piece of information - it was my mom who told me and made me promise I would never bring it up. But it’s just that I’m so curious about how my dad’s biological mom might look like, what things him and I might have inherited from her and what might baby that’s about to be born in a few weeks might have inherited. Anybody has had a similar experience? How did you deal with it? What should I do?

Second hand clothes

Hey everyone!! Does anyone know where one can sell their clothes at a cheap price but in good state that maybe someone can benefit from?

I’d like to have some pocket money and as I’m now a married woman and a lot of my youthful apparel from different European brands like Zara, Bershka, Pull and Bear, etc won’t go with my vibe anymore.

Or what does people in Mauritius usually do with them?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions 🤗

I fear my husband isn’t emotionally ready for a baby

Hi Everyone!

So a bit of context, me (F25) and my husband (M31) got a puppy in May while I was (and continue to be) pregnant due to having a bit of a rodent crisis inside the house (shrews would enter at night) and we thought that having a puppy as part of the family and protector of the home was a good idea (I still think is since I’m used to having dogs as part of my family since being a baby). The thing is that my puppy is now 4 months old, so she is in her teething and hyperactive phase which I consider totally normal. My husband at the beginning was too lenient in her education and allowed her to bit him, now that she is stronger he gets fed up at her and has slapped her while being angry (I completely disagree with this and told him so), the thing is that he is losing his patience with her, screams at her and says that he regrets us having her - which I’ve told him that 1. He needs to manage his emotions because puppies are like babies in the sense that they’re needy and they can be mischievous as they grow up (like toddlers), 2. He had a very violent and aggressive upbringing which he doesn’t want to repeat with our baby but I see his emotions get out of control and he has to leave to another room to relax and control himself, 3. I’ve told him that he requires to be patient and that patience is a virtue that helps with creating a family - since there will be moments in which our baby and future kids might be rude or throw tantrums and we have to manage our emotions to properly parent and not cause trauma in the parents-child relationship. He is a very good man, he is usually very calm but I think the fact that he isn’t used to having dogs and that his upbringing was very dysfunctional doesn’t allow him to understand how to treat a puppy and it worries me that a baby that cries during the day, a toddler that throws tantrums or has the normal mischievous phase might overwhelm it too much.

Any tips?? AITA??

Volunteering in Children Shelters/Orphanages

Hi everyone! My husband and I would love to partake in helping or supporting children in vulnerable conditions that might be in Children Shelters or Orphanages. My husband is Mauritian but has never really tried being part of programs like this but me, in my home country, I was part of social programs to support, spend time with and overall be active with Children Shelters or Orphanages. I’ve always felt strongly about children’s rights and now that Mauritius is my new home, I’d like to give back to society in this particular field 🤍.

Could you share with me your experiences? Are there programs like this in here? What’s adoption culture like in Mauritius? Anything that you might know, please let me know 🙏🏼
