Would you accept a role offer after being rejected initially? Cos it seems like it makes you feel like you're a 2nd or 3rd class choice...

It is ok to decline a job offer after accepting it?

I received a part-time job offer, the employment start date is 3 Aug., but if I receive a better full-time job offer, it is ok for me to decline this part-time job offer after that? Do I legally need to pay any compensation to the company?

Job Application Not Viewed

Those Job Applications that I sent to JobStreet, LinkedIn, MyCareerFuture etc.. I realised that it is not even viewed by some companies till the job adv is expiry. I just wondering why they bother to put up the job ad if they have no intention to hire, and are wasting people's effort and time, sending in their application.

Voting and BTO Purchase Embargo Period for New Citizens

Do you think there should be a Voting and BTO purchase Embargo Period for New Citizens? Eg.. 3-5 years. This embargo period is intended to help them better integrate into Singapore society and understand the local political environment before they are allowed to vote. As for the BTO purchase, I think it is fair that the New Citizens should not be entitled to the subsidized perks immediately, the same as the true blue Singaporean who has been through thick and thin together with the country. Especially for men who need to serve their FT national service and are required to call up for reservist duty after completing their FT national service.

“This continues to support the bilingual policy, which aims to promote Mandarin as the main language amongst Chinese Singaporeans.”

Do you think this is an outdated policy that should be abolished? Even with the ban on dialects in public media for years, some young people/ political leaders still can't speak proper Mandarin, or worse, can't speak at all.

Pervert in SG Running Club

Has anyone come across a pervert in any SG running club? But in fact, he is lurking and looking for his target under the pretext of running to keep fit. I heard say in one of the SG running clubs, where this married dude with a kid got involved with a young single lady, some club runners run into them, seeing them running together privately. But eventually his ill deed was discovered by his wife. Nearly divorced. After that, they lay low. But someone saw them running in privately again on the school track. A leopard never changes its spots!

Does HR have the right to reject a candidate put up by the hiring manager?

My friend forwarded my resume & recommended me to her former boss, and her former boss passed my resume to their HR. The HR contacted me and asked me whether I am keen on the position. I said'Yes" so I was asked to fill out an application form. After 1 week, there is no news for the interview, so I follow up with the HR, and surprisingly, she replied that I was not suitable for the position. When I asked for feedback, the HR did not reply to me. I am feeling quite puzzled. If I am not suitable for the position, why did the hiring manager even pass my resume to HR? Asking me to fill out the application form without giving me the opportunity for an interview. Are they just using me as a decoy so that they can employ a foreigner?
