4 to 3 naps

LO just turned 4 months old and we are considering dropping from 4 naps to 3 as we’re having ongoing nap issues and more recently overnight has gotten worse (not sure if 4 month sleep regression or if baby is still screwed up from a vacation a couple weeks ago, or both!)

Current schedule (roughly) is feed at 7am/10am/1pm/4pm/7pm, then 10pm dream feed, then LO usually wakes up somewhere 2-4am (for a while we were getting him 4-5am but like I said we’ve been screwed up since a recent vacation and haven’t gotten back to that). Wake windows are typically 1.5-2 hours. He does some excellent naps in the crib sometimes, but often wakes up the second he gets put down. Now that I’m back to work my husband is home and he has a particularly hard time, some days he can’t get LO to sleep more than 10 minutes here and there and LO just screams all day.

I’m wondering if we should try to drop the 4th nap and see if that helps with other naps, and with overnight sleep. My question is how that works with feeds - we do eat/play/sleep all throughout the day, so if we drop a nap are we also dropping a feed? I worry that LO would then wake up an extra time overnight because he’s hungry. Or how does it work if you don’t drop a feed - do you feed earlier, or make the wake window extra long? For instance, if I feed at 4:00 and then keep him awake until he eats at 7:00 and then do a bedtime routine, he’ll be pushing 4 hours awake at that point. So just confused on how that all works logistically.

Also looking for a little reassurance that we’re on the right track 🥲 We got the newborn TCB course and have been doing CRIES and SIT BACK since the beginning, and like I said for a while we were getting from a 10pm feed to a 4-5am feed, but now we’ve backtracked to 2-4am (a couple nights ago it was even 1:30am), and he’s been having a lot more wakeups and needing to be settled back down numerous times throughout the night. So just a little worried that we’re not doing it right and should be doing better overnight by this point in time.

Sorry for long post TYIA!!

How many oz are you pumping vs. feeding baby in a bottle?

I am both breastfeeding at home and pumping while at work. Baby is 3 months old and is typically content with a 4oz bottle, every once in a while he might be a little fussy and we might top him off with an extra 0.5oz. When I pump I’m getting anywhere from 3-9oz. Just wondering how much you pump vs. how much your baby takes in a bottle, just kind of thinking about how much my baby gets when he breastfeeds, if he’s not fully emptying my breasts when he eats but the pump is, if the pump is telling my body to make more milk than I need to be? etc. Thanks!

Feeding routine and extending overnight sleep

We’re progressively getting longer stretches between overnight feeds with my 10 week old, last night made it to 6 hours (10am feed then 4am feed). In the last few weeks we’ve gotten into a pretty consistent routine during the day of feeds roughly every 2.5 hours, ending with the 10pm bedtime feed. However now that his middle of the night feed is getting later (previously waking up 2-3am), he is sleeping in a little bit later (7-7:30am, previously 6-6:30am). I am wondering how to manage this so that as he (hopefully) continues to go longer stretches overnight, it doesn’t throw off our daytime routine too much so that we can continue doing the 10pm feed which has been working well. Should I have a set morning wake-up time and feed no matter what time he last woke up and fed, and then eventually phase out the overnight feed when it starts to be right on top of the first morning feed?

Fit check please!

I was advised in another thread to have a fit check because I said my upper back/shoulders hurt after a little while of baby wearing. Unfortunately I had pre-existing pain in these areas so I think baby wearing is just making it worse, but wanted to check if there’s any modifications that should be made to help with pain. Thank you!

SIT BACK question

I’ve been starting to use “SIT BACK” more consistently with my 2 month old. How many times should we keep trying to get him back to sleep with this method before feeding? Wait until inconsolable? Sometimes I do it 3-4 times and will get little stretches each time (sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes up to 45 minutes), but am not sure if there is a limit at which point I should go ahead and get him up to eat. The longest stretch between feeds so far has been 5.5 hours once.

Are you able to put your 8 week old down to nap?

I’m trying not to get frustrated by my son’s eyes snapping open the second he gets put down. Idk how I’m ever supposed to do anything besides hold him

8 week old going maximum 5 hours overnight

My son will be 8 weeks old in two days. The longest stretch we have gone between feeds overnight is 5 hours once, typically he goes 3-4, sometimes 4.5 hours between feeds. Wondering if this is “normal” for his age or if he should be able to go longer overnight by now. People are always asking us how many times we get up overnight/if he sleeps through the night yet and it’s making me overthink what’s “normal” at this age!

7 week old not able to be awake + calm unless eating

My 7(almost 8) week old will wake up about every 3 hours to eat during the day, then after eating and diaper change we really can only get about 5 minutes of calm before he gets fussy. He’s not screaming just fussing, doesn’t seem like he’s still hungry/gassy/uncomfortable as he does settle and go to sleep once we swaddle, give him a pacifier, and rock. I’m just wondering if it’s normal for the wake window to be this small (it’s under an hour by the time he starts fussing), I feel like we can’t do anything except feed him and put him back to sleep, no time for tummy time or play, it’s hard to let other people hold him because then they have to deal with his fussing. Wondering if this is normal for this age, in my memory my nieces weren’t like this and could be calm and awake and content for a while.
