Neighbor installed unpermitted septic tank at base of huge tree and cut major roots. If this tree falls on my house and the illegal septic tank is recorded, is it still an act of god?

Neighbor is highly unstable and violent, so would prefer to not provoke her unless necessary.

Pack Rat Nest in Matilija Poppy— can I prune in August?

I have a pack rat nest in the middle of my giant matilija poppy bush. It’s a 10’x10’ clump, over 10’ high. I was a moron and didn’t prune it last year. Can I prune it now in August or do I need to wait until November?

Are there BSN programs that are based on science and medical skills vs nursing theory/nursing leadership?

Hi, I’m in a state school ASN-BSN bridge program and it appears that all of my classes are leadership/nursing theory classes. Is this normal or it just my school?

I want to be a better nurse and learn more about medicine to become a APRN, not repeating classes on how to communicate and nursing theory…

Looking for the stinkiest seafood cat food and treats.

I have a very picky tabby who will only eat very strong smelling seafood cat food. If it’s diluted with chicken, she will not eat it. She tolerates salmon, but is very drawn to white fish, shrimp, scallop churus, etc. I’m looking for strong smelling food to get her to eat more. What do you recommend?

Do you think those freeze dried whole fish will have enough smell?

Is this structural or can I take it out with a header to make an arch? Why is there wood behind the drywall?

I have a unique situation: there is a heavy cement divider from my poured foundation that is between two rooms. I’m hoping to open the top part up with an arch + header to let the light through, but there is wood behind the drywall. The top of the dividing wall does not connect to the main beams for the upper floors (strangely); it just attaches to the wood underfloor. There is wood beneath the drywall. The house is built on the side of a hill, so I’m guessing it’s there to support weight?

I’m obviously not going to attempt to change the cement structural wall underneath, but could I put an arch in the top wall if I put a header in or connect a header beam to the bi structural beams at the top?

How to prepare rural junior high kids for high school.

Hi, I would love advice from junior high or high school teachers. My kids attend a tiny TK-8 school in our rural community- there are 60 kids in the entire school, which has combo classes for grades.

Our entire junior high is 14 kids. Our teacher is burnt out and the kids have few extracurriculars. They don’t even have homework in junior high. Our kids do not have social media or Youtube, so they’re very innocent.

My daughter will be in 7th grade next year and I’m worried about her transition to the big high school in town. She’s a A-student at our school, but I’m not sure if she would be that strong at a regular junior high. What can we do to get her ready for high school?

How to set up a trial class to teach kids to use Canvas?

Hi all, I volunteer at a rural k-8 elementary school with very low-income kids. This school doesn't assign homework and doesn't teach the 7/8 graders how to use Canvas before high school, which is causing a bunch of them to drop out or fail in the first year. All of the local high schools use Canvas.

Is there a way for me to make a class on Canvas for them to use to practice? Do I need to pay for a teacher account?

Radon mitigation advice needed.

Has anyone had radon mitigation success without the loud radon fan? All radon-related advice appreciated. Radon horror stories are welcome too.

I tried RadonSeal and it’s not working. I’m posting this on the radon sub, but local recommendations are good too.

Advice: should my mixed-race but white-presenting child accept a internship for POC?

We are a mixed-race POC family— my mom is a war refugee and I am clearly a WOC both visually and culturally. My children are all mixed race and most of them look like me, but I have one child who is white-presenting.

Would it be wrong or inappropriate for her to accept a POC internship opportunity?
