IQ Test as a Child (Age 10) vs as an Adult (Age 19)

Hi! I thought I’d share the difference between my IQ test results as a child and as an adult. As an adult, I took the WAIS-IV. I’m not sure which test I took as a child, but it was also an official standardized test. The difference between the results is really, really big, so I thought I’d share it out of curiosity and see what you guys think! The first screenshot is from when I was 10 years old, and the second one is from when I was 19. I took the second test two weeks ago.

Interestingly, my IQ as an adult is above average at 113, while my childhood IQ was 94, which is in the average/low-average range.

¿Qué me recomendáis?

Unusual IQ result?

Two weeks ago, I took the WAIS-IV IQ test, if I remember correctly, because I had always felt like I was intellectually below average. To my surprise, I got a Full Scale IQ of 113.

The reason for the title of this post is that my verbal score was 137, while Block Design, which was my lowest score, was 92. On one of the verbal subtests, I scored in the 99.9th percentile, meaning the test couldn't measure exactly where I was because I reached the ceiling. My psychologist explained that my verbal score could potentially be even higher than 137.

My IQ report says that my profile is unusual because there is such a large difference between my highest and lowest scores. Does anyone know why this can happen and what it actually means?

Am I reading too much into this coworker dynamic?

Hi! I wanted to share a situation I’ve been dealing with at work because I’m not sure whether I’m reading too much into it or if there really is a strange dynamic going on.

This is one of my first proper jobs, and I work in a small team where I’m by far the youngest. My coworkers are considerably older than me. I’m fine with the job itself, but the social side is becoming exhausting because our meetings are quite informal, tend to drag on, and often involve a lot of personal conversation.

I’ve always been a serious and reserved person. I’m polite, but not particularly expressive, and I tend to be quite direct

.

The main issue is with a much older coworker, who I’ll call Javier. He tends to dominate conversations, and with me specifically he can be quite paternalistic. I completely understand that he has a lot to teach me professionally, but he also tries to tell me how I should behave in my personal life or how I should interpret things. When we disagree, he has even used our age difference as an argument — basically saying that because he’s almost 30 years older than me, he knows better.

He also constantly analyzes and labels me: that I’m too serious, that my tone of voice is blunt, that I behave a certain way because of my age, etc. Some of those observations may even be true; what bothers me is how persistent he is about it.

Recently, I’ve also noticed a kind of competitiveness that I don’t really understand. For example, another coworker asked about my partner’s intelligence, and I mentioned that his IQ is 143 (I’ve seen the actual reports). Javier immediately replied, “Well, mine is 148.” A few hours later, while discussing something completely different, he brought up my partner again and sarcastically said, “Well, ask your super-boyfriend to help you.”

On another occasion, he started comparing me to someone from his past who, according to him, used to call him a “loser,” implying that I was similar to her. He has also randomly said in front of the rest of the team that he’s convinced I don’t like him.

That particularly confuses me because I don’t dislike him. I’m mostly indifferent towards him, and I simply have more affinity with and professional admiration for some of my other coworkers.

There was also an occasion when we were alone and he asked whether I wanted him to come into the office on a day when I was going to be there, even though he apparently had no reason to come in. I avoided answering directly because I found the question a bit odd.

None of these things would seem particularly significant to me on their own. What’s starting to bother me is the accumulation of everything: constantly being put into boxes, the comparisons, the comments about my partner, and his insistence on interpreting what I supposedly think about him.

I also recognize my part in this: I’m very direct, and when something seems inconsistent to me, I can respond quite bluntly, although I try not to be disrespectful.

Do you think this is simply a generational/personality clash, or does the dynamic seem unusual to you? How would you create some distance without causing tension in such a small team?
