Some say it's Mahl. Some point out that Elu Prakrut is literally derived from East Indian Prakruts. But that doesn't explain why the v-->b shift doesn't happened in Sinhala which happened in all East Indian languages.

Some speculate that during Satavahana era there was another wave of migrations from Maharashtras coast which brought many monks and Maharashtri speaking populace to islands which shifted the vocabulary more towards Western traits.

Lately I am seeing a lot of Dravidian and Kannada chuvanists trying to prove how our Maharashtri Prakrut was a low class language through their propagandic sources and their subs.

I don't know what the intentions are. Or to somehow prove that Maharashtra was Kannada speaking region🤮 whatsoever it may be have enough evidence to prove that our language we much existed and was spoken in Deecan including Northern Karnataka. And was very much an elite language.

The Sanskrit lines in the image are:

The English translation shown below them is:

"Sātavāhana made the indestructible and refined treasure with the subhāṣitas (good sayings), which are like gems that are absolutely of pure class."

Literal translation would be:

"Sātavāhana created a treasury, imperishable and free from vulgarity, with subhāṣitas (wise sayings), like gems of the purest kind."

This language very much was used in both elite and public spaces. Why would sooooo many grammarians like Vararuchi and Hemachandra praise it? Even when Sanskritization was rampant across North under Guptas, Vakatakas continued to patronize Maharashtri Prakrut by producing works such as Satubandha and Ravanaho.

Not only that they do not like the fact that Marathi got Classical Language label. That's why they are trying disprove the connection btwn Marathi and Maharashtri.

This is not a hate post. Neither am I in for Dravidian vs Indo Aryan fights and all that. But the thing is we are seeing many attempts being made like this with some intentions which I believe need to be address.
