My first Sanderson … did I make the right choice?

Got my first Sanderson, it’s the mistborn trilogy. This is the first time I am reading any fantasy book, I am just 40 pages in, I am liking it so far… got the box set at a huge discount, going in without any knowledge whatsoever about it…

Is the best first Sanderson book to get started with ? Let me know.

Color lead - are they good ?

What’s your opinion on these uni colour leads, I found them too light in colour or pigment, what about you. They are also very delicate I felt, breaks easily

Using with a Kuro toga.

Is this the King of paper? For writing. ✍️

Finally picked up a ream of JK Cedar 100 GSM after seeing it recommended here so many times.

I was walking through the bazaar, and came across a paper mart wholesale store, that caters to providing paper for xerox shops and stationary shops. What caught my eye was that he kept a small set of items out side the store and the one item he kept on the pedestal above everything else for everyone to see was the Cedar! I asked if he had any other 100gsm paper, and he said Cedar alone is enough…

The MRP was 600 INR, but got it for 380 from the shop, I couldn’t find it online with reliable sellers anywhere.

My first impressions are really good. It’s not bright white, a little off white I feel. It feels smooth, has a nice heft, and even with wetter fountain pens I’m seeing very little feathering or bleed-through. Shading also seems to come through nicely.

Now I’m curious - have I reached the endgame, or is there some paper that is even better? For fountain pen enthusiasts let me know what you felt about Cedar.

Suggest a good Calligraphy/Stub nib pen for under 1000

I am not able to find any good calligraphy pen online, I am new so dont know what is good under 1000 INR as well.

Note: This is for writing in English, I found recent posts about stub nibs also to be very nice.

What wont work for me:

  1. Dip Pens( cant manage them in my usage conditions),
  2. Parker calligraphy, tried it a few years ago and didnt like it.

So please suggest a good calligraphy set, or a pen with a stub nib option under 1000 INR.

My first Waterman inks

Ordered these two online from specialised pen and inks retailer/distributor. Got them each at 598 INR. I didn’t trust the Flipkart sellers, so I ordered it from a seller directly on their shopify website , from where I have been buying my rollerball and refills usually. These are my most expensive inks I purchased till now. Have usually purchased desi brands so far.

The order was delivered within 48 hours, but the boxes got a bit disfigured on the way, the inks bottles were intact and didn’t leak.

Both of these colours are a deep rich colour.
The red is a rich red that just pops on the pages, I might have preferred a lighter hue personally like the bril red ink.

Even the green is a bit dark and deep for my taste, but I liked it never the less. If I cross out anything I write it makes it look worse as the ink becomes extremely darker even when a single repeat stroke.

I love red inks, What are your favourite red inks? I like a lighter shade which do you recommend?

Please ignore spelling mistakes in the written samples for comparison.

Tiger notes - smooth beautiful cream coloured paper

Based on few recommendations on Reddit. Just got a new tiger notes b5 notebook. 240 pages, it says 65 gsm but feels a lot like 75 gsm or more while writing, maybe it’s the surface quality - it very smooth. The best thing about it is is the cream coloured paper.

MRP was around 229 but got it at 140 on Amazon. It is easily available on amazon India.

I am going to use to for writing with fountain pen.

Have you tried this? Is there any other underrated notebook you’d recommend I try (especially for writing with fountain pen for notes making)

Unomax Brio - Surprised me

Bought it because of a few posts here recommending it.
Ordered this pen online, and it arrived today.
And I got to say, compared to a few fountain pens I have , this pen really surprised me with its quality. I really enjoyed writing with it, and i forget i am holding it, and it is very functional for daily use. Tried it with Pelikan Violet Ink.

Pros
• Very good soft touch body feel
• Light weight
• Wide Ergonomic grip, there is something about the material and the shape, that is hard to explain - but works for me, and gives me more control of the movement - for both fast paced daily writing as well as a more controlled writing.
• Fine nib - more like 0.5MM
• Very very very smooth nib, just glides on the average paper and notebooks as well.
• Surprisingly good ink converter as well (not the average ones you find in other desi pens)

Cons: Not sure how long the soft touch materials will last, might be hard to maintain a clean look of the pen.

Conclusion: It's costs just 100 INR, I do recommend pen lovers to try it out! I am now tempted to try out other Unomax fountain pens. Are there other such underrated Desi Pens, that i should try?
