Genuinely torn on the rent vs buy thing in malaysia right now, what would you actually do

Our team has been thinking about this a lot lately. renting feels like throwing money away every month but buying locks you into a 30 year loan and a down payment that feels impossible to save for. and that's before you even get into maintenance, interest, all of it.

some people swear renting forever is smarter, some say you're mad not to buy asap. genuinely don't know which camp is right anymore.

if you were starting out today, would you rent or buy. Or are you just like our host, rent from your parents who rent from a landlord?

Anyone else wanted to help their parents financially but had no idea how to even bring it up

something one of our podcast hosts said this week genuinely stuck with us. He talked about how even when he could tell his parents were going through it, they never said anything, so he never knew how to step in. he wanted to help. just had no way to bring it up.

made me think about how often we end up in households where nobody actually talks about money until things are really bad. and even then we just guess our way through it.

is this just my experience or is this most asian households?

To whoever is designing condo parking lots these days, we genuinely need to talk

was editing our podcast today and one of the hosts properly went off about this. she did a year of architecture so apparently she has receipts on this one. every new condo parking bay is somehow tighter than the last and you basically need to fold yourself out of the car at this point.

is it just me or has this gotten noticeably worse in the last few years

Not gonna lie i think "figure it out" is just how our parents explain everything they dont actually want to explain

Was editing the latest episode of our podcast today and one of the hosts mentioned that she asked her mum how to file taxes and the answer was literally "figure it out". sat with that for a bit because honestly same.

started thinking about it and this is basically the standard response for anything our parents either dont know themselves or just dont feel like explaining.

is it just my family or is this a whole generation thing?

Was talking about this on our podcast and got way too invested. I use bidet and the idea of just wiping with tissue and walking away feels insane to me. But my co-host uses tissue and apparently thinks bidet people are walking around wet all day.

Neither of us could convince the other. So now I need to know which side is bigger here. Be honest.

We started a podcast called Suddenly Adults about the real life stuff nobody teaches you. Taxes, EPF, housing, all of it.

In our first episode we sat down with a Director and Tax Advisor specialising in Transfer Pricing and she mentioned that with the right planning, you can legally reduce your tax liability.

We had no idea this was something regular people could do. Clipped it because we figured this community would appreciate it more than most.

Full episode on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5E9--sTfnk) if you want the complete breakdown including a live walkthrough of tax reliefs most Malaysians miss out on.
