Behold this behemoth of a (?)brooch that I inherited from my grandmother

Nobody else wanted this when my grandmother died, about 25 years ago now. I only noticed a few years ago that it's Sterling silver so not exactly the "costume junk" it appears at first glance. Total weight is 120g, but a lot of that would be the giant chonking amethysts in the middle.

I saw a similar one for sale in a notoriously overpriced antique store for about $600 a couple of years ago.

Anyway, I'm hanging onto this one. It's impractical for anything other than costume use (even then...) but it's so cool and heavy to hold.

Show us a nature walk in your area 🌿

This is a fire trail through temperate bushland in the Blue Mountains, outside of Sydney, Australia. There are hundreds of tracks like this. The mountains are mostly sandstone, so some bush paths are made up of fine sand you can walk on without shoes. It's late winter here, the wattle blossoms are out and the snakes are mostly dormant (I wouldn't go barefoot here in summer!)

What's a great song that really gets your culture, that few people outside your country are probably aware of?

Not sure if any of you have heard the masterpiece that is "Keith" by Playlunch.

This is pure Australiana on so many levels, not least because the video clip stars ex-footballer Barry Hall, who was legendary in the game for constantly "bringing the biff" (i.e. beating the shit out of everyone on the field).

This online retailer is selling a few kinds of papaver somniferum (opium poppy) seeds - are these legal?

I'm in NSW. Was browsing the Shaman Australis website (looking for skullcap actually) and noticed they have several varieties of poppy seeds which are labelled as somniferum. I was under the impression it was illegal to sell or grow these. Can anyone clarify?

Ok folks, either reassure me or stop me from doing something stupid.

On one of the Facebook silver pages I look at, there are a few guys selling tubes of 20oz rounds and coins of a few different kinds, at $1600 each. That's $80 an ounce, or about $27 below spot today. They claim this is because they are bulk sellers who only sell online and thus avoid overheads to be competitive... and I guess that they might have bought these coins at half the price last year and want to offload them at a profit... but this also seems like it could be a scam, given the steep discount.

One guy I messaged with interest to buy. He is "verified" by the page admin, but I don't know how reliable that is (I'm guessing, not). He have sent me a photo of himself holding a driver's licence which looks like him, and I have checked the license is valid using the state govt app, it says it is a current licence.

But I'm still worried that selling at this price could indicate a scam?

Can anyone advise if I'm being silly or prudent here?
