Tallaght: Times and Q about route

*** Test times (is 7:30 am good?)
Hi all,

I have just gotten an invitation to book another test in tallaght. I failed my previous one under a year ago and have not had time to retake it over the last year.

Question 1: I am interested in doing my test at 7:30 am ish. Has anyone done this before in tallaght- would you recommend or not. I did my one last year at 11 am as everyone recommended but I was very hungry and tired during it- as I did a pretest right before BIG MISTAKE. I am very alert in the morning and I think this would be a good time for my body clock etc. What are the roads like at this time etc thats my only worry.

Question 2: Last year I went on this totally random route with the lady tester in tallaght (she was really lovely btw). We took a right out of the driving test centre, then a left and drove very straight ( I think) for a long time to this random estate. I cant find on google maps or any test route. Does anybody know where this is- or even the name of the general area/ estate? I failed as I hit the kerb on the turnabout ( never done before) and didnt observe a car coming around the corner while doing the reverse. I would love to find this area again as the turnabout has a bit of a hill in middle of road and the reverse around the corner is more difficult than the other one as there is another corner beside it- more difficult to see another car. I really want to go there again to practice.

I know there are so many tips but if you have any random ones that would be great!! My issue is I dont have a lot of time to drive as people on this sub say as I work in person 5 times a week- any tips on what to do with that schedule would be great. I will do a pretest, practice routes and watch videos. I kind of need to pass this time as I am moving abroad and although nothing can be promised on the day, I want to give myself the best chance.

Sorry for the slight ramble and thanks for any advice!

TLDR;
Advisable to do test at 7:30 am in tallaght? Where is a certain test route with a hard turnabout/ reverse around corner.

Best way to pack to move from Ireland to uk?

Hi, I am moving from Ireland to the UK (the Birmingham area to be more specific) in September. I was just wondering what would be the best way to pack my stuff as all I have is clothes and shoes etc as I am getting other essentials when I move over (I am moving out of my parents house). I looked up ferries and they are too expensive for the amount of stuff I have to bring a car over and back. For anyone who has done this before, would I be better off checking in boxes and flying over or using some sort of moving company? Also any recommendations for boxes to fly over that are nice and sturdy? I have I would say 5/6 boxes of clothes, shoes and jackets. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
EDIT; thanks for all of the responses guys they are great!!! I would probably be better off flying over but I was wondering if anyone has done it with boxes before? I am only renting a room so I am not sure how I would store big suitcases and I will be over in the UK for at least 4 years.

advice on friend break up after unrequited crush

jane (22F, not real name) and i (22F) have been friends for the past 2 years as we are in the same course. we are both bi/lesbian and i always liked having a gay friend. however jane said she had a crush on me in march 2026- like texted me this big long paragraph after she organised this whole meet up. this was after i told her i had a crush on someone else. i kept telling her that we were friends throughout the friendship and never gave her any signs of liking her that way.

when we went back to the same course it was fine at first but then she started giving me these crazy sad eyes. obviously i cant tell her to stop and so i started feeling very guilty and really resenting her. due to this all of our conversations were really awkward and stunted- mostly due to me as i cant speak to someone if i resent them.

she keeps texting me during the summer to meet up and talk but idk what to say. honestly i thought we were more friends out of proximity more than anything else. we are in the same friendship group so i will have to see her again in a group setting. i would love to just speak to her in a group setting (not individually) but idk if thats immature.

if i was to have a conversation with her, how could i basically stop being friends with her? if male friends had crushes on me i normally just cut them off but i feel i owe her a bit more. like is it enough to just say i dont want to be friends with you as the dynamic has shifted or is that too harsh? has anyone been in this situation before or have any advice- would be much appreciated.

PostGrad (PhD) Accom

Hi everyone, I was just wondering for everyone who found accom for their PhD, how did they do it 😭😭😭 I am an international student and came to have a viewing today but the place is nice but the area is too dodgy. I have been looking for a long time for somewhere with other postgrads and no more than 4 roommates but it is really difficult. I have been on facebook, sparerooms etc since March and no luck. Does anyone have any tips? All I want is a double room in a safe area with other postgrads. Any advice is appreciated as I am slightly desperate, thanks.

▲ 2 r/COMSOL

Hi, I am starting my PhD in electrochemistry in October and I am just looking for laptop recommendations. I want to be able to run comsol like 2d simulations and probably all of them like max 2 days long. I also want to code and possibly do machine learning on this laptop. Does anyone have any recommendations? Even for an older version that I can get refurbished- I need something under 1000 euros. Thanks
