Returning to Yone after few months. How to build confidence as him?

Hello Yone mains!

I am a Silver player who has been playing League for about a year and ranked for around half a year. During the last few months, I have been maining Viktor mid, but recently I started feeling that no matter how well I perform in Solo Queue, some games are still very difficult to influence because of things that are largely outside my control as a control mage.

Before Viktor, I used to main Yone, and played him the most from all of my champs. However, my performance with him was very inconsistent, mainly because I was a much less experienced player back then.

I don't feel like I need to relearn how Yone works mechanically, since I have played him quite a lot before. What I remember struggling with, though, was playing confidently into certain matchups, especially ranged champions. I was often afraid that I would get poked out to death if I played too aggressively.

From my experience playing Viktor and other midlaners, I've also played against quite a few Yone players who were much more confident and aggressive than I used to be. Even when they didn't necessarily have an easy early game, they would eventually become very strong and sometimes take over the game through side lanes and teamfights.

What appeals to me about Yone is that he is relatively self-sufficient, manaless, scales well, has strong side-lane and splitpush potential, and has a mechanically demanding playstyle. I also like that he gives me more ways to create plays and pressure on my own instead of relying as much on my team.

I am aware of that Yone isn't very strong early and can struggle into certain ranged matchups. However, I'm already used to playing a relatively weak early game from Viktor, so that doesn't really bother me like it used to in the past. I'm also not looking to play him like Yasuo and constantly fight from level 1. I'd rather farm, scale and then become more aggressive once I have the resources and opportunities to do so.

I like both champions, but at the moment I'm considering putting Viktor aside and going back to maining Yone, especially because games in Silver can be quite chaotic and I feel that Yone gives me more agency in those situations.

I'll probably still keep Viktor as a situational pick when the matchup or team composition makes Yone struggle with.

Do you think this is a reasonable approach, or are there any things I should keep in mind when returning to Yone after a long break?

How to carry better and close games more efficiently as Viktor?

https://preview.redd.it/37mv1g9az3kh1.png?width=772&format=png&auto=webp&s=726dbc5b4d9503e323607b21ae9caaef20b417e6

Hello

I’m maining Viktor in Silver and consistently mostly winning my lane or getting early advantages (ACE in most of my recent losses). However, I’m struggling to translate my personal lead into actual wins before 30-40 minutes when enemy scales up and wins the game, because of one-two teamfights in the end.

I am trying to focus on farming, hitting my upgrades (I upgrade E as first always), catching side waves, and helping my team when I can, but I am struggling with closing games faster, when I won the lane. When my lane is lost, it feels much worse to take any advantage, unless my laner is constantly roaming, and I can splitpush my lane thanks to it.

I know Viktor isn't built for constant roaming, but I feel stuck between sitting mid/sidelane forever or joining endless Silver ARAM teamfights. How should I balance pushing sidelanes/taking towers when everyone is constantly fighting?

What is the #1 macro mistake low ELO Viktors/Control mages usually make when trying to carry/close out with a lead?

Here's my op.gg link, if anyone would want to see deeper my situation:

https://op.gg/lol/summoners/eune/BaudouinIV-Lomza?queue_type=SOLORANKED

I am very open to feedback or advice and I'll respond to them, when its needed.

Peak silver Viktor experience

Hello Viktor mains!

Recently, in my two matches i feel kinda my matchmaking is sabotaging me lol

In both matches i was performing well against my laners (one of them was literally Ahri with 600k mastery)

In first match my team was literally winning every teamfight, but they couldn't take advantages to splitpush the lines to win the game faster so much, and got outscaled by enemy ADC, Jungler and Toplane. I have to admit that, my CS per minute wasn't good enough, but it was hard to have more, because i had to help my team in fights so they could have survived.

The funny part about it is that my jungler told me i am useless, but he literally did 2/11 with very poor farming

The second match was promising to win, but also my team didn't focus on splitpushing lanes enough. Only my lane reached nexus literally thanks to me. The problem was kinda similar, comparing to the first match, but at least i was trying to not roam too much there.

I don't want really to blame everything on my team, beacuse I am not a perfect player too, but I think silver is seriously a hellhole to escape, because players there are focusing on teamfights a lot, instead of using opportunities to end games faster.

I am trying to not bother about lost matches, but after the second one the game punished me even harder, that now I am having -22 +18 ratio. I understand when the game is lost, when I also lost the lane, but lost matches like here above are making me feel helpless.

How to play rankeds on league as a main mode, but Lp system is demotivating me?

Hello

I am a simple EUNE Viktor main, balancing from high silver 3 to low silver 2 since few weeks (playing this game literally for only a year), and I would like to play rankeds more regularly. But my MMR is literally demotivating me, that's why i am cautious about playing the game. I mean I am playing max 2 matches during the day. Sometimes when I lose a first match in a day, i am not playing another after that.

Besides ranked games I play ARAMs casually, because Drafts are very boring for me, and i am only playing them, when i would like to learn a new champion.

Theoretically, my situation isn't that bad, because i have 52% winrate in this season (71W 65L), and i started this season from high iron 1, and reached silver after 60 matches as another champ on another lane (Yorick toplane), but changed him, beacuse Yorick isn't a good blindpick, and I couldn't find another good champ as him. This is why I moved to midlane and after some trial and error methods I've found out Viktor is the most comfortable champ to play for me. My lp gains are kinda uncomfortable for me, especially when I have like +19 -21. Sometimes it was fixed at +20 -20, but not for long. Maybe that's not a lot, beacuse some people have much worse gains. I don't want to underestimate anything, but come on, it's silver, not for example emerald.

I have seen plenty of simple advices, like playing for improvement, or this is just a game. Yes, I would really like to play to improve. Even I used to ask some people on r/summonerschool or r/viktormains for different kinds of advices. Besides of the plenty of mixed opinions, some of them are really helpful.

Besides of all of this, I used to play some matches with my OTP Illaoi friend, who has platinum 4 normally (he used to have emerald few years ago), but he is one of the owners of a smurf account which has Silver 2 (The original owner has master on his main account but he gave it away to my old friend who has platinum after playing a year, who gave the passes to that Illaoi friend), but the account doesn't really have gold or even platinum MMR, so it's fine. But the problem is that he doesn't want to play the game regularly (I kinda understand him, beacuse playing only as Illaoi, and the only backups as Heimerdinger or Xerath support can be really boring). There's also another friend who is a solid platinum guy, who mains Kai'sa. He also has passes for that smurf account, but I haven't played with him yet, and for now I am not really sure if he will play duos with me.

I am not looking for guides how to play Viktor, but how to fix my mindset, so i won't be demotivated after a loss or even more losses. I am kinda scared of dropping to silver 4 again, or even much worse to bronze (But i don't really think i belong there, beacuse bronze was actually very easy to escape for me). For now i have Silver 3 76 LP, so i just need two won matches to reach Silver 2 again.

Maybe my perfectionist mental is the problem, even things in league are not perfect, especially in low elo. Also, as some people have noticed, i usually tend to overthink anything. I remember when my friend told me i am overthinking a "fucking silver". Some matches like playing against hardstuck silver who OTP's for example Yasuo, Zed, Akali longer than I am playing this game, who is good mechanically makes it easier for me to overthink it.

I would like to add that, i feel kind of a pressure of time, because I am starting college in October, and I know I won't have much time to play League

I am thinking about maining Ahri instead of Viktor. Is that a good decision in long term?

Hello again

In my last post I was asking about the best champion to ban as Viktor. I appreciate that plenty of people here gave me advices about it, and it's nice to see, how helpful and supportive this community is.

However, after some matches, which were like 50-50 (i mean some matches were won easily with my good performance, but in another matches i was struggling on my lane, in addition of that, the rest of my team was also struggling on their lanes, and i felt helpless about it) I have noticed that Viktor often can suffer in early stage of the game against some hard matchups (it doesn't even matter about the champ played by my enemy laner, especially when it's for example Akali or Yasuo, who are very dependant from player's skill), beacuse he lacks early mobility and relies heavily on scaling and team support. When my lane gets rough or an assassin gets ahead, I feel like a sitting duck with zero map pressure.

That's why i am considering Ahri to main instead for climbing in my rank Silver

She seems much simpler than Viktor in terms of early stage, safety or mobility. I know she has skillshots on Q or E, but I think it's managable to learn. With her R i can play aggressively and defensively, depending from the situation. I know it shouldn't be an important aspect to consider, but yesterday i have dropped Spirit Blossom skin for her, which makes me more motivated to play as her lol.

Also I would like to ask some questions:

- Is Ahri's high mobility and playmaking ability actually better for carrying Silver games than Viktor's raw late-game damage?

-How hard is the transition from a "farm and wait for late game" playstyle (Viktor) to an active, proactive roaming playstyle (Ahri)?

-What matchups i should be aware of? (I was considering to ban Yasuo, but my plat friend, who mained Ahri in the past advised me to ban Zed, and according to him she has 44% winrate against him)

-What are the main drawbacks or common traps I should be aware of when switching to Ahri?

-If my team is losing their lanes, can Ahri actually solo-carry or turn the game around better than Viktor?

- Can Ahri sometimes have lack of damage? Silver games are usually long (i mean 30 minutes or longer), and it's appealing to Viktor, beacuse he deals a lot of damage, when he has all of his skills evolved + when he has enough amount of items to perform well

That's enough from me, thanks for every advice here!

Who's REALLY a good ban for a control mage (mainly Viktor) in low elo?

Hello, recently I am playing and climbing with my main champ Viktor in silver (right now i am hardstucking between high silver 3 and low silver 2 like for a week), and i am having a mess in my head, beacuse i don't really know, which champ is the biggest threat for Viktor, no matter how well my performance is during the match.

I am torn between banning these characters:

ZED

He is usually very annoying for me, mostly beacuse he can kill me with his R under my tower, without receiving any damage from it. Especially he is miserable to play against, when he plays with Electrocute rune. I know i can counter his R with my W, but he can just safely teleport to his shadow, which is in the safest place, comparing to another shadows. But on the other hand he doesn't scale like Viktor, also in the earliest stage of the game he can be easily poked by Viktor's Q.

XERATH

Theoritically he seems the biggest threat for me, beacuse he's a good counter for inmobile mages, but he has some disadvantages, which don't make me banning him every match. First of all, he isn't very popular on midlane in silver. He can easily run out of mana in early, when he is constantly using his Q. He's also inmobile and squishy like Viktor. I think also he's more popular as support these days.

AKALI

I was banning her for a while, beacuse a month ago i asked the same question here in Viktor mains subreddit, and the most upvote respond told me to ban always akali, beacuse when she uses doran's shield, with second wind even if she's far worse player than you she can usually just free farm to 6 and then beacuse she complete annihilates you on side lane it's hard to really build an advantage and have agency even if you are playing much better.

But the disadvantages of banning her are that, I think ,a lot of low elo players aren't THAT good at playing her. I don't know, from what rank that commenter has, but i think he's much higher than silver.

YONE

Some people, like my friend from platinum says that, he isn't any threat at all, beacuse he has the most predictable attack pattern (according to my friend, he just loads his Q and attacks with EQ after). I know exactly how he works, beacuse i mained him in the past, but stopped playing him, when i realised i am not very good at melee champs.

The problem with him is that, he scales really well. He deals a lot of damage in later phases of the game, unless his performance is really poor. When the Yone player is good, he's also hard for me to poke him in early game, beacuse of his Q3. During the last time i have lost 2 matches against him, even both of the matches were played by me with my OTP Illaoi friend, who's much more skilled than silver, and even gold at her. I know it may be a skill issue from my side, but i couldn't really manage to win the lane against him, even i was trying to not feed him and play safely.

YASUO

The last one. The problem with him is kinda similar to Yone. I know plenty of people cannot play him well, even some OTP Yasuos from bronze/silver, but on the other hand there are also good Yasuo players in Silver or even low Gold. Today i have lost a match against a Yasuo player from the second category. I have never fed so much anyone as Viktor in ranked games lol (2/11/2 with 5,6 CS/min at the end). He also seems hard to poke, beacuse his Q3 makes me to play safer, that's why i am kinda scared to come closer to him.

So, based on all of this, who would you recommend permanently banning in this elo to have the most consistent games on Viktor? Should I stick to a pure counter/scaling threat like Yone, an annoying artillery mage Xerath, or just stick to Akali despite lower-elo mechanical mistakes?

Any advice on how to approach these match-ups or who is objectively the worst offender for a Silver Viktor? I'd appreciate any help here, thanks!

How does MMR work exactly? I don't understand one thing about it

Hello, recently i have noticed that my lp points gains have decreased from +20 -20 lp to +18 -22 lp in a very short time. Before the match, where i started to lose -21 lp, i had won one match, and before it i have lost like 3 matches. It may sound selfexplanatory, but before these matches i had slightly more won matches than lost ones. My winrate in this season for now is 53%.

But the thing is, I don't understand really, what happened next. After the match, where i had started losing -21 lp, suddenly, when i won 2 matches in a row i gained from them +18 lp instead of +19 lp, even i didn't even lose any match, after the only game, with -21 lp drop.

Could someone explain me the math behind this? Is this some kind of a glitch, or it is kind of normal situation?

I'd appreciate any explaining comment about this. Thanks

How do you deal with chaotic coinflip games in low elo? (especially Silver)

Hello Viktor mains!

Recently i am kinda struggling in silver with some games, beacuse of the silver chaos. I am trying to focus on laning, farming (Usually i have like 5,5-7+ cs/min, but it really depends from how the game goes, and if side laning farming is even possible without getting ganked by 4 enemies), playing cautiously, and roaming, when my minion wave is pushed enough.

I struggle the most, when I have to play against hardstuck vets, who hardstuck silver for years. For example midlane assassins. When they can't kill me, they are roaming constantly, that's why, they gain plenty of additional gold from sidelane kills/assists. Following them isn't always worthy, beacuse I know i have to push minion wave first, also i have to know if the teamfight is even worth joining. These hardstuck vets also play on jungle, or sometimes even ADC. They always play "ego picks" on their lane and snowball from killing. I know plenty of people will say these players suck at league, according to their levels (Even 200 lvl of account is like 1000+ hours of playing this game, if i am correct), and they're right, beacuse some of these assassins guys have poor farming in the end (Like less than 5 cs/min), and they only know how to kill an enemy with their champ mechanics. Even, when i am playing fine i feel helpless during these situations.

I know i am not the best Viktor player in silver, but i am really trying to not feed my laners, farming efficiently and helping teammates as best I can, but seriously sometimes I have to play with people in my team, who for example pick Gangplank against Mundo (that's why my team doesn't have any tanks), or Jhin with Yuumi against Jinx with Morgana. I know I don't have any influence, what champions my teammates like to play, and it is very normal, but these examples of picks are making the matchup harder to win lol.

Sometimes i am even thinking about to play Orianna in some games (i have played far less ranked matchups as her, but my winrate and average stats are kinda better, comparing to my Viktor ones) or learn Syndra, but she seems much weaker than Viktor in early, especially when you have to play against dive assassins. But i am not very sure, if it is even worth to change champs

In this season, right now I have 53% winrate generally (60W 54L). On Viktor in solo/duo rankeds i have 57% winrate from 14 matches (I know it's not a lot, but i am not playing league everyday, especially rankeds, kinda beacuse of ranked anxiety).

I can send my op.gg link, if someone would like to take a closer look at my account and my matches. I am aware of that, there are a lot of experienced players here, so even the harshest opinions are accetable for me here lmao.

https://op.gg/lol/summoners/eune/BaudouinIV-Lomza

I'd appreciate every opinion or advice here. Thanks!

Any tips for harrassing opponent in lane?

Hello Viktor mains, Silver Viktor enjoyer here. After reaching 7 mastery level, still i am learning this champ, which i think it's very normal. I don't play ranked games everyday, beacuse of some kind of ranked anxiety, and sometimes beacuse of lack of the time. But the problem is that, last time I had noticed that, I am not very effficient at harrasing my enemies (especially melee), and I would like to learn how to harrass them so much, that they are scared to come even closer, and take some minions, beacuse they'll lose like half of their HP bar.

I have experienced yesterday how oppressive Viktor can be against melee characters, beacuse as an high silver 3, I was playing ranked duos with my OTP Illaoi friend with High Gold 1 rank (normally he's much better than Gold, even maybe Plat elo, beacuse in the past he used to have emerald), and that's why as only Silver guy in the match i had to play against Viktor from platinum. He stole my champ, so i had to pick Yone (I used to main him in the past, but haven't played him for a very long time, also I knew Yone theoretically counters Viktor). He harrased me from lvl 1 so much, i had very poor farming with everything else. But at least we won that matchup, beacuse the rest of my team was doing fine, especially my Illaoi friend.

I would like just to see some tips, how to be efficient at oppressing my opponents as Viktor, especially in the early game, where it's easy to run out of mana.

Thank you!

Which champ is better to ban in silver as Viktor?

Hello Viktor mains!

Recently i was thinking about banning options in silver, and i am not very sure who is the most painful matchup for Average Viktor player in lower elo.

Zed was my first ban pick, beacuse I didn't knew how he worked exactly. He doesn't have blue mana, also he can kill me under my turret with his R. But in the other hand he is a difficult champ, and I think, in silver elo barely anyone knows how to play as him properly (Except some die-hard Zed OTP, who are hardstuck in low elo since ages lol, but I could be wrong)

Xerath is my second and current ban pick, beacuse He can harass me with his long range Q, which has a slightly larger range, than it shows. He is a hard counter for inmobile mages. According to Lolalitics in silver elo, Viktor has the lowest winrate against Xerath (43,27%) and Vel'koz (He has also 43%, but is much rarely less played on midlane, comparing to Xerath). I am aware of that, I shouldn't pay attention to internet statistics, especially in lower elo's, but I don't think these stats are completely wrong. My friend from platinum doesn't recommend me him to ban him, beacuse he says Xerath isn't played that often on midlane.

Last time also Fizz started to be very annoying for me. In early game he is quite managable, when i am playing cautiously against him, but in the later phases he usually roams a lot and gets kills from my teammates. He is just obviously annoying, cuz of his mechanic playstyle.

There are some another champs like Katarina, Ekko, Akali, Malzahar or Sylas, but i am not sure, if they are worth the ban.

What do you think about my banning thoughs? Are there any better options than that? I'd like to see any opinion about this topic. Thanks!

Orianna vs Syndra vs Viktor for climbing in Low Elo

Hi, I'm currently in Silver and I am thinking of sticking with traditional control mages to improve my fundamentals and climb.

I'm torn between Orianna, Syndra, and Viktor, and i am not very sure which one of them is the most reliant pick for climbing.

Orianna: I feel very consistent with her and love her teamfight utility, but sometimes it feels hard to solo carry games if my team is behind. She feels safe against melee matchups, and in this elo a lot of people play with melee ego picks (I am not insulting anyone, who plays this kind of champion) like Yasuo or Akali

Syndra: I like her playstyle, but I heard she has more hard counters, comparing to Orianna, and I think in early game she is harder to poke aggresive champions, and also she doesnt have any "rescue" possibilities any other than flash, or sucessfull stun with WQ

Viktor:

I played him the most, from all these 3 champs, but it was when I was much worse player than I am today. I remember when like 2-3 months ago, during Zed or Yone matchups i played too safe against them, also i roamed a lot back then instead of farming, and that's why I had like 4-5 cs/min in these matchups. Today, I am proritising farm over than roaming, so my situtation with Viktor would be much diffrent.

Which of these 3 is the most rewarding to main in Silver for stable climb, and why? Is a pool of Orianna + Syndra enough, or is Viktor worth playing also, or would he be better than Syndra for example in my champion pool?

Thanks for the help!
