Returning to Yone after few months. How to build confidence as him?
Hello Yone mains!
I am a Silver player who has been playing League for about a year and ranked for around half a year. During the last few months, I have been maining Viktor mid, but recently I started feeling that no matter how well I perform in Solo Queue, some games are still very difficult to influence because of things that are largely outside my control as a control mage.
Before Viktor, I used to main Yone, and played him the most from all of my champs. However, my performance with him was very inconsistent, mainly because I was a much less experienced player back then.
I don't feel like I need to relearn how Yone works mechanically, since I have played him quite a lot before. What I remember struggling with, though, was playing confidently into certain matchups, especially ranged champions. I was often afraid that I would get poked out to death if I played too aggressively.
From my experience playing Viktor and other midlaners, I've also played against quite a few Yone players who were much more confident and aggressive than I used to be. Even when they didn't necessarily have an easy early game, they would eventually become very strong and sometimes take over the game through side lanes and teamfights.
What appeals to me about Yone is that he is relatively self-sufficient, manaless, scales well, has strong side-lane and splitpush potential, and has a mechanically demanding playstyle. I also like that he gives me more ways to create plays and pressure on my own instead of relying as much on my team.
I am aware of that Yone isn't very strong early and can struggle into certain ranged matchups. However, I'm already used to playing a relatively weak early game from Viktor, so that doesn't really bother me like it used to in the past. I'm also not looking to play him like Yasuo and constantly fight from level 1. I'd rather farm, scale and then become more aggressive once I have the resources and opportunities to do so.
I like both champions, but at the moment I'm considering putting Viktor aside and going back to maining Yone, especially because games in Silver can be quite chaotic and I feel that Yone gives me more agency in those situations.
I'll probably still keep Viktor as a situational pick when the matchup or team composition makes Yone struggle with.
Do you think this is a reasonable approach, or are there any things I should keep in mind when returning to Yone after a long break?
