First time doing anything DSO. I don’t have a UV/IR filter yet so that’s affecting the image. I don’t really have an eye for it nor know how to edit these so any advice on how to do better next time is appreciated.

Partial Solar Eclipse

90% eclipse. This was a massive headache to make. Am still getting my foot through the door of this hobby, so it might not be the best work, but its my humble attempt.

I got an astro camera for my birthday yesterday. I barely know how to operate the thing but had a go anyway. What do you think?

Moon

I got an astro camera for my brithday yesterday, and was blessed with a nice clear sky that very night! I had a go with very limited operational knowledge of the aformentioned camera, and captured a few videos using different ROIs.

Please let me know what you think and what I need to tweak while capturing. It was such a transition from mobile capturing, feels like i've gone back to square one, struggling with settings etc. Will have another go using a 2x barlow another time.

IIL Many Many Changes by The Dynamic Superiors

I’ve been obsessed with this song. I’ve been looking for music with a similar vibe but nothing I’ve been able to find has come close to how good this song sounds to me. Any suggestions? 🙏

Does anyone else do this or is it just me?

I’ve noticed that for some reason during conversations I sometimes find myself staring at the speakers mouth / lips. I don’t have any hearing issues. I don’t really like eye contact but I do make eye contact in tolerable bursts, but sometimes I wake up from autopilot and realise I’m just staring at their mouth moving. I don’t think it’s just a social face to face thing either because even when watching a movie or tv show I sometimes find myself staring at the speakers mouth rather than their face as a whole? Is this just me? Can people tell? Do I look creepy if they can?

Can one stop medication and successfully remain functional?

So not long ago I started medication for my ADHD. I’m doing medicine at uni and these first two years without it were an absolute train wreck. I made it to the end of 2nd year and am now on meds, wishing I had been diagnosed and medicated sooner.

The issue I’m having is that my career dream is to join the RAF and practice emergency medicine there. However to be accepted into the RAF you have to prove you are functional unmedicated for 1-2 years prior. I have 4 more years of med school left, and I genuinely don’t think I’ll make it to the end without these meds (Elvanse), I’m probably going to have to do resits this summer for the exams I just sat for this year.

Has anyone managed to use meds to get their life in order, then tapered off and still managed to be functional and maintain their goals etc? Is this possible and how? It really speaks to the core of my life aspirations so any experience even if negative would be appreciated.

Social Self hatred

I have a problem I need to fix. I’m pretty introverted, until I’m comfortable In a situation with some friends I trust then, for a limited time, I can be super energetic and talkative to the point I need to reign myself in. But I feel like I’m holding back so much. Like I have a genuine deep rooted hatred of myself or something. I can’t describe it, I see videos from nights out where I was talking gleefully, or loudly, or enthusiastically and I just hate it I can’t stand it. I find myself yelling or cheering at bowling with friends today and the immediate realisation makes me cringe and hate myself. Like I just think “who does this guy think he is?”. It’s like I want to be confident and normal and stuff but no matter what it’s like I can’t stand myself having joy. And not in some depressive way but it just makes me want to coil up and hide.

I conceptualise the idea that I need to stop trying to appear a certain way, and be myself, just be natural and myself. But when I imagine myself like that or other people I know seeing me like that, or hear myself like that, I hate it and want to crawl under a rock. Not even like it’s something one could be socially embarrassed of like after having a few drinks or something, just plain simple hearted joy or enthusiasm. I’ve been like this as long as I can remember, I’m 21 now, and I don’t know what to do.

Moon

Round 2! My second capture of the moon. With the intense heatwave over Europe came 2 nice clear nights, the first in a while. So I gave it another go. Over exposure, and tilted camera mean some bad chromatic abberation, but im improving I think.

My first Image of the moon!

Just a 2min video though my iphone 16, using an nexyz mount, ran through PIPP and Autostakkert4, and some gentle wavelet nudging in siril. What do you think? Not bad for a beginner?

The scope is a Star Discovery p150i, and a StellaLyra 8-24mm zoom at 8mm for this.

Jupiter

Well I have had my telescope about 2 weeks now, and a few days ago (06/05) I took my first video of Jupiter. I used Night Cap Cam, to get the video, and ran the data through PIPP, Autostakkert!4, Siril and GraXpert. Honestly on siril im just nudging the wavelets at random really. And denoising and Deconvolving on GraXpert, im not sure was too necessary on such low quality data, but a good measure I think.

It was fairly late and jupiter was fairly low on the horizon, and I had to use my stock 10mm EP beause the nexyz mount couldnt grip my BST StarGuiders properly. I have a StellaLyra 8-24mm Zoom on the way though and im hoping to get out earlier so I can image through less atmosphere. But overall I dont think its too bad for a first time!

What do you think? Tips? Please impart on me your wealth of knowledge, im serious, I really want to improve.

So I kinda messed up with my scope, and it needs collimation. It fell of its rail, from maybe a height of half a metre, primary mirror side down. I caught it after it hit the ground, and continued on to go and observe outside. Visually inspecting the primary I'm super lucky in that it looks flawless, no hairline cracks or splits or anything.

When I was outside, I was observing Jupiter, and it looked even better than the previous night, though I think that's due to just better seeing, the point I'm making is that I was still able to get it nice and crisp, see the brown belts sharply, and the subtle polar darkening. Similarly with the moon it was strikingly crisp, except for the lower right edge which was harder to focus. But when way out of focus of an object, I can clearly see the misaligned collimation, with a slightly lopsided doughnut, compared to the perfect one the previous night.

I suspect my collimation is off now, and I'm very lucky that's the only damage as far as I can tell. The issue is that I have a Star Discovery P150i, which doesn't have primary collimation screws coming out the back, its sealed, and says that its permanently collimated in factory.

I've attached images of the back plate of the scope, and also a rudimentary pic through the empty focuser, to demonstrate the misalignment. And I know the camera is not perfectly central, I'm still waiting on the collimation cap, but what do you think? Is this fixable by adjusting only the secondary mirror? If not is Primary collimation possible at all?

There are screws on the side of the tube which I assume allows one to remove the mirror assembly, but I don't know if the collimation screws would actually be accessible once removed. And id really prefer to not risk taking it out and ruining the mirror.

I'm really sweating buckets over this, and any help would be REALLY appreciated.
