Thank goodness for holiday weekends

Went back to my hometown for the July 4th weekend and enjoyed a long weekend to spend with the parents and not worry about work emails. Got to hit a lake and small river in Middle Tennessee and had solid days on both out of the PDL 106.

Highlight was catching my PB smalllmouth (just one inch off from trophy designation in TN). Also thought it was funny strapping my kayak in the office parking garage Wednesday before heading out.

The nicer the panfish, the worse the bass?

The bluegill and other sunfish in the pond were looking super healthy, while the bass were either dinks or seemingly on the cusp of death. Is it an overpopulation/imbalance thing?

I usually single access since I go solo. Admittedly, the river was up and on the cusp of being undoable for going upstream, though at least the pedal drive kept my arms from getting worn out. But fortunately I was able to pick apart some of the slower sections comfortably. Just wish I had landed a second, bigger smallmouth…it spit out the spinnerbait when it jumped right next to the kayak.
