For those like me who like their coffee with some milk...

Whether a cappuccino, a latte, or just classic coffee and milk... I'm curious what are the choices of people here when it comes to milk?

I personally switch between dairy milk and almond milk - the dairy milk obviously has a lot more sugar/carbs, so when I'm consuming that, I have to be a lot more careful about my limits. Almond milk is almost completely void of carbs or sugars, making it the more obvious choice in terms of keto... and the only reasons I don't fully stick with almond all the time is because sometimes I want a latte or cappuccino and almond milk doesn't froth, plus dairy milk is half the price of almond milk... but at the same time, almond milk lasts upwards of a month in the fridge, which is awesome compared to dairy!

How do others who like milk in their coffee go?

Anyone know which CDs they have at their merch table on this tour?

I'm travelling to another country to see them very soon and the only CD I have a physical copy of is Art of Doubt, so I'm hoping to grab some more at the show! But I'm curious about it, because I'm sure they aren't selling their entire library these days! I'd love to grab anything I can, and want to make sure I've got space!

Friends supporting people who were abusive towards you for years

I spent five years as a performance artist, as a hobby. I created public community events and hosted, performed, and brought in other performers and such. I started this around the time that these kinds of events were just starting to become a thing where I live, so it was a wide-open sandbox and seemed very fun.

Some other performance artists saw it as an opportunity for fame and profit, and saw everyone else as competition that they either needed to suck up to or destroy. I was the latter.

For my 5 years there, I was emotionally abused, publicly attacked, even defamed (I did look into hiring a lawyer, but there wasn't enough money involved for any lawyer to be interested), and generally just aggressively bullied until I decided to quit and leave it all for the sake of my mental health.

These narcissists got what they wanted, and I'm far from the only one they did this to, but now they dominate the scene. They ran out all the competition and killed almost all the events so now they are the only ones left, and they charge a hefty ticket and only occur a couple times a year, ensuring they fill up to capacity.

This show is happening this weekend and some of my friends are going. They are generally good friends. I know they care about me and are supportive friends. But I also know these friends are very into these kinds of shows and I honestly do understand why they want to go on a very superficial level. I haven't fully told them all the nitty gritty details of the 5 years of abuse, but they do know at least to an extent what these people are like and that they drove me out. And they say, "We're not going for the people, just for the show".

It is the only part of our friendship I could really complain about - they are good friends otherwise. But I have to admit that this really gets under my skin... and I'm afraid it's gently gnawing at our friendship and making me feel differently about them... in short, it hurts.

What would you do in this situation?

Nazi slogan on coffee pot

I'm not crazy, right? Gott mit uns is a Nazi slogan and anyone painting it on their coffee pot is blowing a nazi dog whistle...

OP claims they live in Bavaria and that it's common to say it there, but I live quite close to Bavaria and I've never seen anyone using this slogan in a non-fascist way...

Why has the internet been flooded with talk about European heatwaves, but we aren't hearing about the massive fires smoke hazards in the US?

I just found out that there are large portions of the US (and also Canada) that are on fire and the air is dangerously smoky - there's been so much talk about how Europe's having these unprecedented heatwaves, and the proposed solution seems to constantly be air conditioning...

...but why haven't we heard that the US is dealing with much, much worse consequences of climate change? Is this big news all over the US and not making international news for some reason? Why is it not a massive topic on social media like the European heatwaves?

It's really scary and I'm really sorry for everyone in North America currently affected by this... I can't imagine... 😞

Ode to Minnesota - Tori Amos

Well, the incredible Tori Amos released a new album a few weeks ago (her 18th!!!), and it includes a short, beautiful little tune called "Ode to Minnesota"

I guess she must've written it in the winter or so, because it's clearly about how Minnesota was making huge headlines for standing up to ICE.

This song made my eyes well up with a warm smile.

Just wanted to share - enjoy! ❤️

https://youtu.be/6FZoSCY3QSc

Change gonna come, Minnesota
Change blows in like the wind
I got an ode to you, Minnesota
'Cause you got our back as a friend
Pink rabbits bathed in spearmint
Ice [ICE] breathes in Fire's wind
I got an ode to you, Minnesota
'Cause you got our back as a friend
I got an ode, an ode to Minnesota
'Cause you got our back
You got our back
You got our back as a friend

When someone asks for advice checking out an artist they've never listened to

They're just checking it out - they're not sure if they like the artist or their music yet. They want a nice entry point to start from.

Have you ever checked out a new artist by listening to their entire discography from start to end?

Because it seems very often that when people ask for where to start, maybe for an album suggestion or some songs, that people say "start with the first album and listen chronologically". It often appears to be the most common suggestion... and an off-putting suggestion, if I do say so! 😃 I'm wondering if it's just me, though! Does this work for people? If that's the only suggestion I get in such a situation, I'll end up just not even checking out the artist because I'm just checking it out - I don't need the lore, the backstory, the evolution yet 😉 If I listen to a suggested album, sit with it and listen a bunch more times, and really like it, then I'll probably want to check more after that... but, you know, after some solid time with the first one!

I'm curious how others feel - am I the weirdo? 😃 Is this really a great starting point for checking out an artist that just doesn't work for me? Does it resonate with many in the community? I'm genuinely curious!

Mats

I've searched the sub and done a lot of reading, but I haven't managed to find what I need... so I am asking for your thoughts!

I currently have a foam mat that cost around 30€, and it was fine for vinyasa, but now I've started also doing rocket - I sweat a lot during rocket, and it's causing me to slip and slide all over my mat!!

I also have sensitive knees, though, and thin mats are downright painful for me...

I'm currently looking on yogashop.cz and there are so many different kinds of mats... I see non-slip mats, but they look thin... jute mats... rubber mats... cork mats... rug mats...

...I feel a bit overwhelmed! I'd really like to avoid making another mistake like I did with this foam mat... I don't want to regret my purchase and have to buy yet another mat!

So, I'm curious if anyone has any opinion on what kinds of mats would be best for a person who likes to do faster yoga and doesn't wanna slip, but also has sensitive knees and could use a softer/more padded surface!

Thank you so much in advance ❤️

Just need to rant and this is the only place I can do it.

At the weekend, I was out with a big group for a hike. I knew most of the people, but there were some people I didn't know. One of those people ended up greatly annoying me with her views 😃

The one of those views I came here for went as follows...

She was a local, and was explaining to a person from a different country that here there's a law that pedestrians legally must wear a reflective band on their person if walking after dark. The reason for this law was that motorists were hitting and killing pedestrians. So instead of perhaps lowering speed limits, improving pedestrian infrastructure, cracking down on drunk driving, etc... they decided pedestrians must wear reflective bands when walking after sunset.

This girl was defending this law, and I chimed in that the law put the onus on the wrong party - if motorists are killing people, the motorists should need to slow down and be more attentive. She went into this, "Well, I'm a motorist, and it's just hard to see pedestrians!!!" I responded that I've also been a motorist and it's one's responsibility as a motorist to be attentive and alert, as pedestrians were here first.

We got interrupted then, which is for the best, because I don't think that would've gone anywhere productive 😃

I just think this law is crap and it really annoyed me hearing someone staunchly defend it... I mean, sure, if you're walking on the side of an unlit street where there's no sidewalk at night, you're kinda taking your life into your own hands if you aren't wearing reflective gear. But that's kind of an exceptional situation, imo!

Thanks for hearing me out lol
