I remember hearing David Sedaris once describe NPR by saying, “Who are these Jews, and how do they know so much about our world?" (I’m Jewish and this made me laugh - I am not offended or anything by this joke) I’d guess it was on a live episode of This American Life or something but I can’t seem to track it down. I’ve found another person referencing the joke online so I feel confident it actually exists. Thanks in advance for any help!

We’ve been saving up for a mortgage on a condo which we plan to buy in 2027, and have some more money coming our way soon. In the meantime, we found a summer lake house we love. We have the money in cash to buy the lake house, but it would cut into our condo-mortgage savings. Would it be better to pay for the lake house in cash, or get a mortgage on it so we don’t deplete our savings?

EDIT: I appreciate the advice! If it clarifies anything, the summer lake house is a bungalow, it costs around $40k. It’s not like a house-house, which is why we’re considering splurging on it like this.
